Maya Q (@mxyi) releases her debut EP for Scuffed Recordings, weaving together her own unique take on influences from across the UK dance music spectrum. The New England-born, London-based DJ and producer has been building momentum throughout 2021, both with her productions and as a resident of the Co-Select collective. 

The ‘Spiral’ EP follows Maya’s appearance on the Scuffed Presents 005 compilation in early 2021 with her track ‘Belief’, which saw support from Jaguar and Jess Iszatt on BBC Introducing, among others. 

Since then, Maya released her ‘I Just Wanna’ EP through DJ Pitch and Simkin’s All Centre label, which further established her esoteric production style and her place as an artist to watch in the UK’s electronic music scene. 

On the EP’s title track, Maya comes straight out of the blocks with a jungle-inspired warper that pairs heavyweight bass with an unearthly melody and frantic breaks. 

Next up is ‘da2’, which eases off the pace in favour of atmospheric effects and chiptune-esque synth work. 

Closing out the release is ‘Drumpack’, with Maya’s eerie melodic pads and veering synth line dancing over a skippy garage-inspired beat, before introducing a grinding bassline in the second half of the track.

Fiesta Soundsystem - Drumbang EP (Clips)

@leshlingi debuts on Scuffed Recordings with three tracks spanning anthemic breaks, wonky UK techno and percussive club music.

Born in Iceland and now based in London, INGI has begun to make a name for himself in the UK’s club scene with his brand of broken UK club music, pulling on influences from across the electronic music spectrum.

His ‘Wrestle’ EP on Fly By Night Recordings was released at the end of 2021 and saw support from the likes of Madam X, Danielle, Anastasia Kristensen, and Frazer Ray.

Starting off proceedings on the EP is the electrifying title track ‘Fade’, anchored around glitched-out vocals and powerful breaks.

Up next is ‘Kurt’, an altogether more leftfield club track with swung percussion, robotic bass stabs, and metallic synth work.

Closing out the release is ‘Point’, whose staccato vocal stabs and rolling percussion pay homage to some of the best of UK techno and bass music.

INGI - Fade EP (Previews)

Back in action is the combination of Bad Legs & Perfect Kombo with their latest hit Pure Impurity. The subtle french vocal is strewn throughout this track and it’s really so sexy while it is mixed through the big bass and dirty synth stabs. The Darrow Chem Syndicate has done it again.

Nipponeer Records being based in Tokyo, Japan; was founded by Hiroshi Fukuma in 2003. This is the 79th release of the label, while the first EP came out in 2009 - aiming to reach a place of solely ageless and quality music, where time has got no dimension.

New Delhi-based DJ-Producer Sanil Sudan a.k.a. FILM is set to launch his thirteen-track eponymous debut full-length album in May via Qilla Records. FILM offers a cohesive 52 minutes of ambient pads, techno, and old-school breaks while shifting gears towards a more songwriting approach.

FILM, the self-titled debut, has been in the making for the last few years with every track created around a memorable hook. Sudan explores the album format by shedding the dancefloor-ready sonic identity while retaining some classic club cuts.

There is homage to Berlin synth lines (“Second Self”) in the same blend as samples of opposition members in the Indian Parliament berating the Home Minister (“Discordia”) over skittering 4/4. The record nods to cult films (“PLPFCTN”) and video games (“Formless”) with euphoric dives into jungle (“DBRK”) and darker dub (“Rush”) influences. On “Drill Masala” the indigenous indie brand of electronica is evident as polished percussions of the tabla glide on “I’ve Always Liked Trance”.

The album closes with a poignant ode to Sudan’s late mother with an outro featuring Matrix protagonist Keanu Reeves’ voice. The Korg Arp Odyssey has contributed to the deft basswork that progresses from minimal to menacing and hypnotic through the course of the record. “Most tracks have been built around a central theme or samples which tell a story.
