Beats and rhymes illuminate the sky as listeners enjoy a radiant ride on Ghost Cartridge’s self-titled album.

The record’s 54 chaotic and melodic minutes represent the most ambitious project yet for the group of rapper/producer hybrids, who have been dropping electronic hip hop gems since 2018.

The squad is populated by hip hop veterans Mantrakid and The EquAzn—brothers in sound and vibe since the early 2000s. Their off-kilter signature style forms a giant voltron robot of video game samples, dope production, and earworm lyricism—comic book supervillain-level braggadocio forms the head.

This time around the pair are joined on the mic by a credible crew of Canadian connects collected during a light year of inspired service in the game, each of whom delivers cerebral headphone candy.

Synth, samples, cuts, and drums stomp, bump, slide, and thump in a soundtrack that suits an all-night road trip, whether down an 8-bit highway or through a future singularity. The album’s 20 cuts range in style from old school dankness to uplifting wonderment, taking listeners from screw face head nodding to wistful gazing and back again.
