Since 1996, Jet Jaguar has been a staple of Wellington music, producing countless amazing tracks using all sorts of samples, riffs, and drum patterns. Spot the videogame samples in this one!

Ali's work involves promoting parks, activity, and well-being in Wellington (see more at www.wellington.govt.nz/ParksWeek / Wellington City Council), and he is the genius behind the hidden gardens that were the inspiration for today's 31 days in Wellington painting. Day 17: 'Battered Old Ship' by LOST BiRD

31 days in Wellington, day 18: 'A Blow Upon A Bruise' by Étienne de Silhouette (c) 2016. Old-school sounds from an enigmatic "misery pop" outfit. This one throws us right back into the halcyon days of Straightjacket Fits and The Chills, and we're super stoked to premiere this never-before-heard track by this underground Wellington indie band. Seasoned musicians, these guys have collaborated previously on projects and bands such as Betashine, Disjecta Membra and Splintered In Her Head, among others. 

On the inspiration behind the track, co-writer, producer and multi-instumentalist Matthew Tāmati Scott states: In essence, the quotation attributed to Albert Einstein comes to mind when I think of the song: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results". 

2016 should be a huge year for these guys; fresh from the studio, Étienne de Silhouette will be releasing more brilliant tracks very soon via etiennedesilhouette.bandcamp.com. We hope to see them gigging with the new material shortly too.

31 days in Wellington, day 21: 'Uranus' by Terror Of The Deep (c) 2015. A grunty and decidedly NZ indie number, with catchy hooks and lush musicianship. 

Making music since 2008, Terror Of The Deep have been quietly releasing prog rock gem after gem, including the album 'Space Epic' in 2015 from which this song is taken. Oliver Dixon has written most of the songs off the album 'Space Epic', and, now several releases into their discography, the songwriting is mature: their sound is singularly theirs; Dixon's vocals roll around with relaxed confidence; and the band slips between tight structures, spacey instrumentals, and all-out jams with ease.

Now based in Edinburgh, Scotland, Kat's songs often contain a little nod to New Zealand and her hometown of Wellington, and her music captures the ups and downs of what it means to be living and working on the other side of the world. She's at her best when it's all stripped back: Kat has a beautiful voice and stunning musical skills. In 2013 she released her debut full-length album ‘Shine On’, and we're hoping she'll fit in studio time this year to produce more fine tunes.

31 days in Wellington, day 23: 'Shine' by Towers (c) 2016. Brand new tune from a talented five-piece, with stunning vocal harmonies that'll make you feel tingly. It's glorious! 

Never heard before, 31 days in Wellington is stoked to premiere this track, which is a sneak peak at what you can expect from their upcoming EP. With catchy songs based around exquisite male/female vocals, it's easy to see why these guys are growing in popularity fast. Dai Henwood told Towers to "cut your throats out, dip them in gold and put them in the pool room 'cause you sound bloody amazing" -- that's high (and a bit violent, Dai) praise.

Formed in 2007, Rosy Tin Teacaddy has built a reputation for narrative songwriting and lyrical craft coupled with wit and poignancy. With a partnership that dates back nearly twenty years, the duo is regarded for their onstage symmetry and effortless blend of vocals. Their latest EP ‘In Kindness or Injury’ is a beautiful exploration of their weird and wonderful origins.

31 days in Wellington, day 25: 'Dead Man Walking' by Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band (c) 2013. A grooving number from some local masters of swing, rock n' roll and dark calypso.

Formed in 2011 by Dayle Jellyman and Mike Jensen, the Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band are a rowdy 7-piece pumping out danceable numbers across genres from "stompin' New O'leans style ragtime, funeral marches and gospel shouts to second line grooves and street beats".
