For @disquiet junto project 520, 17th Dec 2021: On The Clock, Stop procrastinating ...

This is a nice "end of the year" project. I spent 2 hours this Friday morning working on this 18 years old track.
It started as a slow jam with my friend  Ringo Estrella playing drums, I was playing upright bass.
It was a pointless jam, but I liked the groove, so I kept it aside for further use.
5 years later  I went back to it and added acoustic guitar to make something out of it (mimicking a bass lick to create a sort of hook) It was still pointless so I shelved again.
3 years later I need a slow groove for a project, considered this one and added a Hammond organ to glue it together. Still didn't work but kept it aside promising to finish that later.
Fats forward 5 years and I fulfilled my promise , went back to it, recorded some melodies on my accordina...and then did nothing with it, didn't mix it, nothing.
This morning, another 5 years later, inspired by this project I decided to just mix it and share it, as pointless as it is, just to get rid of it...

I took that photo in Asturias, Spain, 6 years ago.

A little guitar thing I never got around to doing something with. All sounds are guitar.

Clockwork [disquiet0520]

That thing I've been putting off? Creating a longer form piece with a sci-fi space vibe. I've created short spacey and sci-fi loops in the past but nothing of any length or with structure. This track features a chaotic middle section with some chill at the beginning and end. 

Made with a mix of modular synth (voices: Hexinverter Mindphaser* and E352 Cloud Terrarium) Korg opsix hardware synth, and Ableton Live instruments. Effects: Valhalla Supermassive, Desmodus Versio, and various Ableton audio effects. 

*Just before this Junto was announced, I had put the Mindphaser in my focus case to get to know it better. What a perfect opportunity to see what kind of sci-fi vibe it could make. It's responsible for much of the middle section.

An attempt at making something I have been putting off for awhile. Using a frippertronics guitar bit, cut up and reworked, then the entire thing slowed down slghtly.

My 33 1/3 series book about the Aphex Twin album <i>Selected Ambient Works Volume II</i> was published in 2014. The book was one of the top 5 bestselling titles for the calendar year, and in 2015 was ranked by Pitchfork as one of the "33 best" of the 100-plus books in the 33 1/3 series. It has subsequently been translated into Japanese (2019) and Spanish (2018)

Since 2012 I have moderated the Disquiet Junto group, which began on SoundCloud. More at disquiet.com/junto. 

I've written for Nature, Pitchfork, The Wire, Down Beat, Boing Boing, NewMusicBox, Red Bull Music Academy, Art Practical, the website of The Atlantic, and many other publications. 

I've exhibited sound art at galleries in Los Angeles (Crewest), Manhattan (apex art), and Dubai (DUTAC), and I had a audio-visual installation at the San Jose Museum of Art as part of its 45th anniversary.

And since 1996 I've run the website Disquiet.com about the intersection of sound, art, and technology.
