Belgian electronic pioneer, Pole Folder needs little introduction. A former protégée of the UK legend and Bedrock boss, John Digweed, Pole Folder broke onto the scene in 2001 and has since evolved into a multi-instrumentalist and live performer showcasing an exciting and unique brand of melodic house and techno. Signed to Global Underground, Renaissance and the aforementioned bedrock, Pole Folder exudes a timeless class in everything he makes.
Munich-based Aethon is the Deep-House/Ethereal-Techno alias of DJ/Producer and Modular Synth enthusiast Christian Schnall. Socialised and influenced by the alternative music of the ‘90s, he combines the melancholic teen spirit with the electronic sound of today.

The single features the vocals from highly sought-after vocalist Jinadu. With collaborations to date with Black Coffee, Hot Since 82, Eli Brown, Jamie Jones ad Dixon. He is also known as one half of The Beauty Room, a luscious, 70’s Americana inspired project that employed the skills of Grammy award winning engineer Peter Henderson (Supertramp) and string arranger Paul Buckmaster (David Bowie, Elton John) to great effect.
In original form, deep kicks and a rubbery low end form the bedrock on which sparse percussion and bright and airy synths work their magic. Jinadu’s ethereal vocals add to the air of mysticism which becomes a maelstrom of melancholy energy. A real meeting of minds with far-reaching creative potential. On remix duties, Fur Coat goes deep and musical creating a deeply hypnotic version, while Armonica slows the tempo and toughens the low-end grit with a haunting Reese bass. The release also features an ambient reimagination and shortened radio cut.

Bringing together a talented quintet in an artistic trio, Russia collaborates with the US as Mango, Meeting Molly and Phonic Youth visit "Iceland". A single remix comes from Dutch master, Alex O'Rion.

Mango needs no introduction to the dance music faithful. An iconic name with a rich history dating back over 15 years, his music for a plethora of imprints including ARVA, Anjunadeep, UV and his own Mango Alley, have seen over 400 production credits to his name. A comparatively new name to the underground dance scene, Meeting Molly has come a long way since a late-2018 debut for Incepto Music. A half century of credits for both Songspire Records and Monstercat have been complemented by work for Colorize and Black Hole before now arriving on GMJ and Matter's imprint. The final debutant sees San Francisco trio, Phonic Youth, revel in their differing musical backgrounds with a clutch of releases sprinkled over a decade and finding their way onto the likes of The Purr, Garuda and Monstercat Silk.

"Iceland" is a beautifully atmospheric offering that excites the senses with its shuffling hi-hats, heavy beat and evocative melodic phrasing. Spine-tingling vocals shimmer across the track in haunting and ethereal fashion as elegant piano notes complement the delicate lyrics. Marrying arpeggiated synth patterns with fizzing white-noise effects and a deeply grooved bassline, "Iceland" is a real tour de force of mature and modern progressive house.

A regular on Meanwhile with almost a score of original and remix production material, "Echium" in mid-2021 and "Solis" in late 2022, fully showcased Alex O'Rion's unique talents with a raft of original music that illustrated why the Dutch producer is at the top of his production game. Remixes of GMJ and Matter's "Gauntlet" and "The Path" showcased his remix skills as Alex O'Rion now debuts on Meanwhile Horizons with a typically imaginative and silky-smooth reworking that drives forward with a rolling groove and new rhythmic foundation as familiar keys from "Iceland" cascade gently across proceedings. A perfectly placed vocal refrain echoes the key lyrical theme found in the original before opening-up fully at the mid-point breakdown, while a sumptuous club-friendly backdrop of thickly textured pads and white-noise pads radiate in gently pulsing waves and a generous coating of reverb.

Full of atmosphere and vivid sonic landscapes, "Iceland" is lit up in iridescent glow by Mango, Meeting Molly and Phonic Youth.

A warm, redolent groove sits at the foundation, moving with rolling undulation as layers of drums and aquatic effects converge for a buoyant cadence. Elegant atmospheres rise across the first movement, flowing beautifully into an emotive centrepiece, as heartfelt chord stabs and poignant tones unite for a smooth yet exhilarating finale.

'As GMJ and Matter shake the foundations of the underground house scene with the continued success of the ever-more powerful Meanwhile imprint, "Mood Medicine" sees GMJ return to solo duties with a three-track EP that showcases an inimitable talent.

An artist with an enviable reputation and production portfolio, Gavin Griffin has scaled the north face of the underground dance scene with aplomb, reaching the summit with a distinctive and unique brand of progressive house that finds him one of the industry's most in-demand producers of recent years. Able to point to a career trajectory that has seen him perform behind the decks at the likes of Amsterdam's Club NL for Replug's 10th anniversary event during ADE 2019, or close Melbourne's "Rainbow Serpent" festival with his fellow countryman, collaborator and co-founder of Meanwhile, GMJ's list of achievements grows with each passing month.

Returning to the Meanwhile with a debut solo offering, "Mood Medicine" is replete with GMJ's passion for "deep emotive electronic music" as the title track bristles with percussive firepower before a seismic kick and bouncing, filtered bassline weaves a magical spell across the near 9-minute piece. White-noise effects build the tension as a sparkling arpeggio glitters into life at the mid-point onwards before exploding into the post-breakdown denouement with assurance.

Continuing what has been an incredible year, Alex O'Rion returns to Cid Inc's Replug Records with 'The Long Walk'. Having made his label debut in 2019 with the highly regarded 'Marathon' EP, the Dutch artist also lays claim to releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren's Hope Recordings. 2020 has proved to be a prolific year for the talented Dutchman, as he now finds himself as the producer of the moment, following a long line of Beatport Top five remixes and notable DJ support. Now firmly allied with the progressive music elite, Alex makes a welcome return to Replug with a three-track artist showcase. 

Getting the release underway and sitting as one of Alex's most emotive productions to date is the title selection 'The Long Walk'. Warm beats and a full, rolling groove set the foundation for a narrative of wistful arps and uniquely tailored percussion. Pushing a poignant narrative, plush tones and hopeful overlays drift across the framework for impassioned moments, before melting down into a glowing centrepiece. Free and flowing, the interlude spans nearly two minutes in length, gently building tension through muted beats and ethereal phrases, before a trail of vocal gates and waves of noise cue a heartfelt finale.

Equally excellent, the second selection 'Mirari' furthers the EP's whimsical appeal. Smooth, elegant and a touch romantic, the 'Day Mix' delights with its creamy tones and elegant motifs. Thoughtful atmospherics carry the dreamlike storyboard, while pulsating bass lines marry surreal melodic concepts, before an expansive break provides the perfect prelude to a gorgeous final act. The 'Night Mix' sits as a worthy alternative with it's darker, dubbier approach, highlighting the main themes in less distinct fashion while delivering the message with a tougher groove and equally fluid narrative. 

Putting on a stamp on this enthralling collection are the surreal melodies and modern architecture of 'Komodo'. Dark and compelling in equal measure, it's a collage of lively percussion, sprawling synth phrases and otherworldly effects which captivate across the seven-minute journey. Prophetic themes and siren-like synths expand the musical narrative across a cavernous break, gently washing over a rumbling underbelly, heightening the senses and ultimately closing the release out on a mystical note.

As Alex O'Rion continues to navigate a landmark year, his latest Replug vehicle 'The Long Walk' is sure to unite progressive music fans with his undeniable blend of talent, craft and technique.
