Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint rounds out the summer season by welcoming Tristan Case back to the label for his debut EP. Renowned for his dreamy yet reassuringly tough and beautifully balanced approach to deep house, UK born, Australia based artist Tristan Case has carved out a sound all his own. From his 2020 debut on Do Not Sit On The Furniture to more recent offerings via Flug Lab, onedotsixtwo and UGENIUS Music, the Sydney resident has enjoyed a three-year creative swell. Sound Avenue has also been a landing spot for Tristan's organic sounds, with a contribution to Volume Four of the imprint's popular 'Correlation' series marking his label debut in April of last year. This well received first offering would lead to 2022 remixes of Mariner + Domingo and Nopi, both of which were written in conjunction with Australian artist Tam Barlow. Now returning to the label in solo capacity once again, Tristan presents 'Aurora's Story' alongside a remix from Barry Jamieson. 

EP opener and title selection 'Aurora's Story' finds Tristan operating at the peak of his creative powers. Fuelled by emotion and groove; its warm voluptuous basslines, liquid-like rhythms and tight percussive arrangements resonate on a transcendent level. Deep and melodic across the first movement, Tristan continues his elusive ways with balmy overlays, arpeggiated fragments and panning effects creating a bridge into the main break. Sitting in a poignant yet thought provoking space, a stunning melodic narrative captivates as the interlude evolves, flowing through fluttery motifs and colourful textures as tasteful modulation spearheads a groove-centric drop and nostalgic finale.

Making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of 'Aurora's Story' is Barry Jamieson. Born and raised in England but now based in New York, the UK artist has had a hand in some of electronic music's most revered tracks. From engineering some of Sasha's career defining productions, to remixing New Order, The Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode, Orbital, Madonna, Seal and more, Barry has been one of the most transcendent figures in the evolution of electronic music. More recently Barry's inimitable production touch has found a home on ICONYC, Mango Alley, Proton and Replug. Now adding Sound Avenue to his resume Barry debuts on the label with a stunning rendition of 'Aurora's Story'. With a greater club sensibility, Barry takes inspiration from the original, remodeling the track into a dizzying dance floor slam. Complete with a spectacular effects narrative, hyperactive rhythms and a forest of fresh sonic details, it's an adrenalized energy-rush for the ages - one where Barry lands sounding bigger than ever.

Rounding out the release are the broken beats and earnest musicality of 'Twelveslept'. From buoyant upbeat beginnings come heartfelt themes and striking percussive arrangements which captivate leading into the break. Looking to bring greater emotional depth, Tristan reaffirms his musical prowess with heartfelt harmonics, choir-like overlays and balmy effects which play across the main break, only to be washed away in a timely fashion for a goosebump inducing conclusion. Tristan continues to impress with his Sound Avenue return, a three-track affair which continues an incredible year for the fast-rising progressive phenom.

Morttagua’s single “Telos” receives two wonderful revisions by Progressive greats Alex O’Rion and Lonya.

Morttagua - Telos (Alex O'Rion Remix) [Timeless Moment]

Operating out of his Rosario home, Mariano Favre returns to Particles after a 13-year absence. A renowned name with releases on the likes of Manual Music, Perspectives Digital and Lowbit, the Argentinean artist delivers twin original tracks in "Abundance Mindset", while remixes come from a pair of fellow countrymen.

"Abundance" is a flowing progressive gem with head-shaking percussive top-line, deep-lying bassline groove and heavy kick laying dynamic foundations. Building through its phrases, a rippling arpeggio adds synth joy as epic pads and ethereal vox create additional sonic layers. Building to a powerful crescendo, the track drops back into its vibrant cadence and evocative melodic phrasing to mesmerising effect. "Mindset" continues the angelic vocal phrasing of its partner track as a driving rhythmic framework keeps the intensity high. Soaring synth phrases, spine-tingling arpeggios and plucked strings add to the aural collage at the breakdown before a rising wave of sound heralds a second half filled with dancefloor prowess. Rising and falling ease the track keeps listener intrigue high while a pulsating finale ensures worldwide club support.

Another returning artist sees Matias Chilano continue where he left off with a fourth remix for the label. 2018 saw a trio of reworkings for K Nass, Pysh and Andre Sobota before the Córdoba resident graduated onto Proton Music with new interpretations of Huminal, Erdi Irmak and Sebastian Sellares in 2019 and 2020. Re-establishing himself on Particles, the Matias Chilano remix takes "Abundance" in a trademark direction full of rhythmic prowess and production knowhow. Taking the central melodic themes of the original, a hefty bass groove powers forwards while airy juxtaposed synths sit atop, steeped in emotion. Wrapped in a crisp new rhythmic shell, a familiar arpeggio and swathe of effects criss-cross the stereo spectrum to create a potent and accomplished new interpretation.

An Argentinean artist to come to the attention of the progressive house cognoscenti, Mayro has risen in prominence over the past 4 years. A prolific artist with releases on the likes of Perspectives Digital, Traful and Siona Records, his "Crazy Thoughts" EP in June 2022, with remixes from Kamilo Sanclemente and Blanka Barbara, saw him make an impressive Particles debut. Now returning, the Mayro remix of "Mindset" is a chunky rhythmic powerhouse that bristles with cavernous bassline and shaker-fuelled percussive intensity. Melodic echoes from the original resonate through the 7-minute piece as a swathe of new production material gives the Mayro interpretation a darker and more contemplative ambience as new melodic patterns swirl in mesmerising patterns throughout the second half.

Through a plethora of new sonic imaginings, Mariano Favre has created an "Abundance Mindset", ably supported by Matias Chilano and Mayro.

Tash's Movement Recordings opens the month of December by welcoming NuFects to the label for their debut EP. Conceptualized in 2013, Colombian artists Alejo Cortes and Carlos Lopez aka NuFects decided to undertake a project full of energy, joy, colour and intrigue. They started producing progressive and organic house under the name NuFects (short for The New Effect), quickly earning recognition from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Cid Inc, along with very important local talents Dabeat, Gux Jimenez and Kamilo Sanclemente, while legends like Paul Oakenfold and Solarstone playlisted their music. Now surpassing ten years of working together, NuFects takes another important step with their Movement Recordings debut 'Demons and Slayers', alongside remixes from Alan Cerra and Paul Deep (AR).

Beloved for her sleek, energetic brand of progressive house, NuFects dials in another beauty with 'Demons'. Warm, full grooves anchor the journey while layers of expertly manicured percussion, dulcet pianos and percolating synth lines add bounce and emotion leading into the break. Advancing further across the interlude, the duo works precise modulation in crafting a tension filled build, eventually peaking with prismatic colours as the groove drops for a thunderous finale. Meanwhile, the equally impressive 'Slayers' keeps the peaktime energy established by its predecessor. Big muscular grooves, crunchy rhythmic structures and wavy arps set the course for a profoundly emotional theme to emerge during a hugely memorable breakdown.

Returning to the label for the lone interpretation of 'Demons' is Alan Cerra. Hailing from Argentina, Alan has achieved measurable success since first emerging in 2019. With a progressive sound that finds a perfect balance between melody and groove, genre tastemakers Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, Hernan Cattaneo, Miss Monique, Tim Green and more have been steadfast supporters across his rise, while Juicebox Music, Hoomidaas, Mango Alley, Siona and YOMO Records have served as landing spots for some of the Argentine's most highly regarded work. With Alan's Movement Recordings debut 'Space Dive' landing in September, the Río Gallegos resident now returns to the label with a powerful take on 'Demons'. Beginning with a buoyant kick and galloping groove, the Argentinean artist channels the electric energy of the original through striking synth lines and percolating arps, before a break of dissonant synth blasts and crunchy melodica setup a thrilling peaktime finale.

The release concludes with Paul Deep making his label debut with the lone interpretation of 'Slayers'. With a career that spans the better part of a decade, the Argentinean artist has compiled an impressive resume along the way, landing releases via All Day I Dream, Tale and Tone and The Soundgarden. World class DJs Lee Burridge, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren have all been steadfast supporters of Paul's sound, which often sits in the creative space between progressive and organic house. Now, following his latest vehicle for Proton Music, Paul makes his long overdue Movement Recordings debut with a huge rendition of 'Slayers'. Built around a thumping percussive framework, Paul focuses on rhythm and groove across the first act, nicely balanced with a healthy dose of arpeggiated sequences. Looking to bring greater emotional depth, the main break unveils a gorgeous primary theme, delicately dancing across dusty percussion and tension filled tones, as modulation peaks for a fiery finale.

Cigarette Music kicks off its 2023 activities with a new vigor and releases the first episode of a Various Artists EP Melodic Techno series named 'Dark Noon'; five tracks per release, all focused on the the night club dance floor. The names included along the way are largely emerging and exciting producers from all over the world who are being welcomed into the Rome stable fold for the first time. Dark Noon # 01 is introduced by six international artists as Jochem Hamerling (Netherland) , Edem & Govan (Italy), Michael Ritter (Germany), Susfractor (Colombia) and Ingemann (Norway), presenting 5 Original Mixes specifically conceived for the project.

The new project pairs with the namesake clubbing party Dark Noon, born in Ibiza in early 2016 from the same team of Cigarette Music and randomly exported over time to other European cities such as Rome, Paris and London.

Fractal Architect returns to Madloch's 3rd Avenue imprint with the "Costa Rica" EP, a three-track original release. Fractal Architect's music is driven by a passion for depth and feeling, and he strives for excellence through meticulous attention to detail. With influences from Kraftwerk to Zappa and Bach to Beck, Fractal Architect's unique sound often defies genres, shaped by his upbringing in the musical melting pot of the 80s and 90s where new sonic possibilities emerged.

Presenting their second release of the year, Antrim’s Or Two Strangers welcomes Gaston Ponte back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from Argentina, Gaston Ponte has enjoyed a steady rise within the progressive music spectrum. A 2017 debut would see the Buenos Aires resident go on a creative swell, landing key projects with long running imprints such as Asymmetric Recordings, Auditen Music, Balkan Connection and Proton Music, while earning play and support from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren in the process. Also receiving considerable praise was his Or Two Strangers debut ‘Sorcery’, a highly regarded 2020 offering which still resides in his Beatport sellers. Now, fresh off his latest vehicle for Proton Music to begin the year, Gaston makes a welcome return to Or Two Strangers with an artist showcase entitled ‘Old’. 

Comprised of four distinctive and equally compelling creations, it is the spacious grooves and shimmering melodies of ‘Old’ which set the tone for the EP. Instantly seductive, its hopeful atmospheres and panoramic arps create a colourful canopy for warm beats and mountainous bass tones to deliver an enticing narrative. A well-crafted break sits at the heart of the journey, flowing through smooth synth swells, delicate arps and soft, siren-like tones, before uniting for an exhilarating drop and suitably cosmic finale. Selection two ‘The Traveler’ finds Gaston composing with a strong sense of rhythm and groove. Fluid and buoyant in equal measure, an evolving effects chain plays off creamy chord stabs, as colourful atmospheres and flashing percussion unite in a perfect sonic marriage. The Buenos Aires resident flexes his free-thinking muscles across a memorable break, as pitch-shifting structures and hypnotizing effects take centrestage, eventually transferring energy into a lively, key changing conclusion. 

Continuing on a lighter monochrome with ‘Roots’, Gaston diversifies his portfolio with a production that is equal parts groovy and emotional. The Argentine allows the listener to relish in the groove, as flickering percussive arrangements, balmy overlays and elastic-like stabs provide a mesmerizing bridge into a therapeutic break and meditative finale. The release’s finale selection finds Gaston collaborating with fellow countryman Mariano Fuchilo on ‘Puche’. Featuring a smooth progressive narrative; the duo craft a foundation of warm beats, mountainous grooves and clattering percussion. Its robust low end is full of character and shape, positively charged and perfectly playing off the duo’s arpeggiated rhythms. The main break serves to build tension through exacting modulation and phasing noise, eventually culminating in a striking apex and groove-driven final act. A unique production from Gaston and Mariano which rounds out a sensational Or Two Strangers return for Gaston, an artist who has presented some of his all-time best work here.

3rd Avenue is an electronic music imprint which operates under the Sound Avenue umbrella.  As the Belgian imprint continued to grow and diversify its output 3rd Avenue was created to focus on the more traditional progressive house sounds which ultimately spawned Sound Avenue’s beginnings. Now ten years since the labels inception 3rd Avenue has built a healthy artist roster which includes Nicolas Rada, Dmitry Molosh, Hot Tuneik, Eric Lune, Monojoke, Figueras, Subnode, La Vue, Beije, St.Ego and many more.  The label’s ‘We Are The Future’ compilation series has long been one of the best showcases of new and undiscovered artists.
