South Beach's world renowned locals spot on 3rd Street next to the lifeguard stand has been a hot spot for some of the best S. Florida musicians and players from around the world since 2001. Under the sun, in the sand with surf & wind, bathing bodies, kids, and south florida's tropical musical vortex these musical sessions truly capture the essence of Miami. Players performing on this track are: Andrew Logan of Blood Fusion, Jonathan Marcoschamer, Fabio of Lanzallamaz ProMuzik, Arthur Besser, Yair Marcoschamer, Pipo Fernandez of Miami on Beat (MOB), Jared Bistrong (Digital Caveman) host and founder of the 3rd Street Sand Band Drum Collective, and many lovely others, kids and families and dancers who all contributed to the solar sonic vortex that took place this wonderful May Day. . .

Tropical Overtones

The 3rd Street Sand Band Drum Collective has been playing on South Beach since 2002. It's a weekly drum jam that takes place in the sun on the sand next to the 3rd street lifeguard tower. This jam has been host to some of the world's best musicians over the years. The 3rd Street Sand Band is about playing music for the people by the people---it's true Miami folk Music. The music performed on the sand is unique to Miami. Although there is drum based music played all over the world---there is nothing quite like what takes place here in Miami on 3rd Street. A new tradition is born. Every culture around the world has it's traditional drum music; but what's unique about Miami Beach's drum music is that it doesn't belong to any one tradition. Different drummers bring parts of their traditional drumming music together to form something entirely new. There are tinges of African, Afro-Carribean, Afro Cuban, Salsa, Merengue, Argentine Rock, Hip-Hop, Funk, Folk, Blues, Aboriginal, Native Music. . .you name it, it takes place in some form or factor here on 3rd Street. Most importantly, all music produced on 3rd street has the elements of the beach in it; sand, sun, water, birds, kids, surfing, sunrises, sunsets, full moon rises. . .etc. You want to play? It's simple-get salty first; otherwise you'll be flat! The 3rd Street Sand Band was founded and is hosted by Miami Native Jared Bistrong and his family. The who's who of Miami musicians have at some point joined the 3rd Street Sand Band Drum sessions. Regular contributors include founding member Leonardo Vega of the Speed Racers and the Poko Locos, Bobby Dickman, Andrew Logan of Blood Fusion, Jonathan Marcoschamer, Arthur Besser and 1000's of others over the years!!
