I'm a big fan of the TV show Nip/Tuck. There was a piece of ambient music made by the shows composer James S Levine, that featured in the more emotional scenes throughout the series. It never got an official release on any of the soundtracks, so I have edited and re-composed the track, trying to take as few personal liberties as possible, to recreate it. Obviously due to the nature of the source (aka direct from the DVD, with only about 50 seconds or so of material to work with) don't expect this to be 100% perfect, but as it stands, it's still quite a beautiful piece of music, that is perfect for looping anyway.

You'll definitely hear the Aphex Twin influence (it's effectively Rhubarb's twin brother)so fans of lush, emotive ambient music should be well at home with this.

Galatea was started around the time I finished Void Dance and I have returned to it periodically since. I always thought it had potential, but struggled to finish it. I made a breakthrough with it earlier this year and even throughout the revisions, I wanted to retain as much of the original vibe as possible. It represents a great era for me and I didn't want to destroy this by gutting it completely. As of today, I finally consider it finished. It's a tune close to my heart and I hope you all like it.

"I Know" is the 10th track in my audio diary. How time flies! I must admit, I didn't think I'd be this productive in such a short space of time, but I have learned over the years that when inspiration strikes, you don't fight it :)

This tune went through about 5 completely different versions before I finally cracked it. When I say different versions, I literally mean different tracks, which were all ultimately scrapped. Another thing that you learn with time is not to be too precious with your music and when things aren't working, just save it and move on to something else. I always have the mindset that the next tune I have will be the best thing I've ever made, and even though this is unlikely to actually happen, it's the best way mentally to stop being attached to things and start anew, with fresh ears and fresh inspiration. "I Know" probably isn't the best thing I've made, but it's still a tune I'm very happy with and I hope you dig it too.

"On the melodic, minimal synth tip for this one. Once again, this track went through multiple revisions before finally finding the sound I was going for. It was originally more complex than this, with far more instruments used, but as I've often found with my music, the best things happen when I strip away the fat and concentrate on what I feel is the core aspect of the arrangement (usually the melody, which takes control in this tune). Hope you dig it."

Gemini is another track that started life many years ago, but unlike my other archival tracks, the bulk of the work for this one was done in the last week or so. I've always had plenty of musical ideas, but sometimes you just need to wait for your technical skills to develop to the point where you're able to actually realise them. This was the case with Gemini, which is a square-wave dominated synth track, that in retrospect, works as a really nice accompaniment to "Through The Prism". Expect lots of arps!

As a side-note, I'm now aiming to release all new tunes in this series on the 1st and the 15th of each month, until it ends in April 2019. This will give me a set goal to achieve, prevent potential creative burn-out, while also letting you, the listener, know exactly when to expect them dropping in your inbox. A couple of days early on this one, as I will be away this weekend. I've had this tune in production for around a month now and once again, I resisted the temptation to over-produce it and instead, just let the core emotion of the track shine. I started this tune in June and finished it around the end of the month. I really like the track, but kept getting bogged down making new music and literally forgot I made it. Oops. Anyway, I had a data scare a couple of days ago, which meant I had to re-backup some recent work, which brought the tune back to my attention. I think it actually fits quite nicely after the last track I upload "Tempora" so perhaps this was all fate after all. Enjoy and thanks as always for your kind support!

I made a conscious promise to myself when first starting making music as 36 to keep it completely beatless. If I'm bring honest, I find the vast majority of ambient music "with beats" to sound like really dull chill-out stuff, which isn't really my thing. However, every now and then, I break my own rules and whip out the drum machines. In this case, I wanted to write a follow-up to "Galatea" which I know a few of you really enjoyed. This tune was completely beatless originally, but I soon realised that it needed a percussive element to take it to the next level. I took the 909 (which I used extensively in the SYNE album) and a few effect units and it soon came together nicely. It's probably the most production I've put into a single track in quite a while, but despite lots of hours going into it, I didn't want it to sound over-produced. The best tracks have this raw edge to them, that shows the human in control rather than the machine. I think it's one of my favourites from this entire Patreon series and I hope you dig it too.

Voices In The Dark began a few months ago (the original folder date was September 2018), but like so many in this series, it was abandoned and forgotten about, for reasons which made sense at the time, but made little sense in retrospect! I returned to it earlier in the week and added a little more live production, which was then tightened up post-recording. It seemed to bring it all together and it's now in a state I am happy with. One month of 2019 already gone... How time flies. This Audio Diary series will end in just over 2 months, which is just nuts to me, as it feels like only yesterday I started it. Hopefully you've found it worthwhile. I know I have enjoyed it immensely.

Anyway, as some of you likely know, I have a new LP out (which was made before I started this series) called Fade To Grey and have been busy doing the promotion for it these last few weeks. It left me with little time to work on new music, but I did manage to get something ready, which was once again based on something I started as a sketch a few months back. It's becoming a recurrent theme with this series and teaches a very important lesson... Never throw anything away!

Anyway, my schedule has settled back down to normality now, so it's back to business as usual from now on until the end of the series. I'm already thinking about a possible vinyl compilation of the best tracks from this series, so that might be something I'd like your input on in the near future. I feel like some of these tunes are just too good to let waste away in the digital desert and deserve to be properly mastered and released. However, that's a thought for the future. For now, I hope you enjoy the track and I'll see you next time!

This one is a (mostly) acoustic track, that gave me flashbacks to a certain older work on my 2010 album Hollow, hence the name. Although I am undoubtedly a better producer technically than I was 9 years ago, in terms of the emotions of my sound, I still feel much as I did back then. I still strive for many of the same things. Producers can spend a lifetime trying to find their sound and I am fortunate that I found mine very early in my career. Although I'll always try to experiment and push my music as far as I can, I doubt the core elements of my music will ever change really. Would you really want them to?

And so we enter the final month of the Audio Diary. I don't know about you, but the last year has absolutely flown by. It felt like only yesterday when I started the project. It's been really satisfying to watch the series grow organically from beginning to end. I'd be lying if I said I'm not feeling a bit burnt out by the work schedule, but I'm also really glad I did it. Some of the tracks from this series are now personal favourites among my entire discography. The pure ambient tunes on Ego Death will be released on vinyl tomorrow (many of you should already have your copies already!) and I think a vinyl compilation of the best tracks from the series definitely needs to be considered. We'll see what the future has in store...

Anyway, 12 months and 31 tracks later, we now arrive at Minerva. This is another track I've been working on sporadically over the last few months and here at the end, it felt like the right time to finally publish it. I hope you've enjoyed listening to the tunes as much as I've enjoyed making them!
