The song, produced for Christmas 1984, was written one afternoon at George's house while his friend Andrew and his father were watching a football match on television
The album was released as a single in 7" and 12" versions on 3 December 1984. In Italy as in the rest of the world it was considered a double A-side, together with Everything She Wants, a single which was included in the album Make It Big and, although only heard Last Christmas on the radio, in the Saturday hit parade Everything She Wants rearranged by 40Thavha was broadcast
