Stefan Schwander aka Harmonious Thelonious is definitely not a newcomer. He has been around for a long time and has already released lots of amazingly varied music on labels such as Emotional Response, Italic, Meakusma and Diskant. He’s also an integral part of the infamous Duesseldorf / Salon Des Amateurs axis that is an obvious hotbed of talent. He describes his style as "American minimalism vs. African drumming vs. European sequencing", a heady mixture which is clearly evident on this EP though with a definite Middle Eastern twist. At Versatile HQ they were introduced to this clutch of tracks by one of the members of Acid Arab and were totally blown away. Stefan has a very unique production style, fusing all of the above elements with a hint of Gamelan, a dash of tweaked FM synthesis type sounds with a dose of warm ambience and finally his own singular touch on the mix. Here premiered is the b1 "Defender", our fave cut of this delightful four tracker. revisiting some of the A-side sound palette, but catapulting those cosmic tones into a realm of amphetamine fuelled intensity - peaktime drummy psychedelia for any and all dance floors. For their next release Moscow's ИДА crew welcomes Rambal Cochet from Saint-Petersburg, an alter-ego of Volta Cab — an author of Vladimir Ivkovic’ approved remix from one of the previous ИДА releases. There are three original rave hymns with slowed goa trance vibes and a psychedelic feel. We pick the ethereal and trippy Panks remix to premiere.

Marching across the plains, they moved with pride and precision amidst the outback which was perilous for such magnificent creatures. They had become used to the trials and tribulations of the country, yet as the rain fell and the trotted onwards across the vast expanse of ashy green and brown they could not help but fear the worst. Each elephant was hot property and very much in demand. Cars hot tailed them along dusty desert roads and rocky paths whilst hunters watched on with an evil eye. They were each as twisted as the next and deserved the same feat. 

Eyes of Others is set to release a new EP via Edinburgh based record label Paradise Palms, an off centre, eclectic electronic focussed label which continues to grow. The EP is rounded off by a remix from Manfredas, a firm favourite.

A year ago Eyes Of Others had his 'I See You In The Shrubs' track remixed and dubbed by the late and very great Andrew Weatherall.
Since then he's been working on various projects plus this new single, Elephant - this time with a remix by Opium club legend Manfredas.
His work has previously been described as 'post-pub couldn’t get in the club music'. Elephant is more direct and has definitely gained entry to the club, hung his coat up and bought another drink. PREMIERE #908 | Eyes Of Others - Elephant [Paradise Palms] 2020

Mother of Mars​ is the latest musical outlet of New Yorkers ​Vito Roccoforte & Gabriel Andruzzi.​ Having cut their teeth as the rhythm section of​ The Rapture​, who were at the forefront of the late nineties post-punk revival scene, they took to channeling their mutual love of disco, house and techno, the bandmates took to DJing together as ​Vito & Druzz​i. Having honed their skills and joint workflow, the Mother of Mars project sees them shift focus from club orientated productions towards Avant-Garde, New Age and Experimental influences.

2018 saw their first exploration as Mother of Mars releasing their ​Seed 2 Sky​ 12” on Ransom Note Records. These synth-laden tracks, both 10 minutes in length, were lovingly crafted from their shared Brooklyn-based studio and cast a midpoint between each’s wide reaching influences. This time around, they come armed with the angelic vocals of Japanese expat ​Jaiko Suzuki​ and a variety of percussion from across the globe.
Space Without A Shadow​ is the first outing from this new body of work and is in many ways considered by the pair to be the missing track from their ​Seed 2 Sky ​release. Although both refreshing and exciting, the track unfolds in an almost familiar way. The result is a beautifully-strange fusion of genre and culture alike. Over a beating kick and layers of driving percussion, repetitive synth riffs swirl in and out of focus clearing the way for Jaiko’s multi-tracked airy vocals, subtly playing off of one another in the foreground.

“Space Without a Shadow had its genesis shortly after the writing of the first Mother of Mars release, Hera in the Valley, which came out on Ransom Note Records the 19th of January 2018. This release also marks the wonderful and talented Jaiko Suzuki joining the Mother of Mars universe. Space Without a Shadow was always intended to be the next record after Hera in the Valley and now 2+ years later or a mere fraction of a second in cosmic time, which Mother of Mars prefers to work in, we give you Space Without a Shadow.
In the song—Vito, Jaiko and Gabriel all seemed to be moving through convergent musical and lyrical lines (or possibly cycles or spirals) that passed through a space of negating the popular modern idea of the individualized objectified self. Not an annihilation of self, but the dissolving of a particular and common conception of self. As part of this process we possibly make space for something else altogether or maybe we even get rid of a sense of delimited space all together. And perhaps this comes across to the listener, and they get to share in this experience.”

On remix duties is long time friend ​Willie Burns​ who weirds up the dancefloor, still being respectful to the original and Glasgow’s rising star Mr TC who progs the whole thing up utilising the bassline to reinvented effect.

The track was mixed by previous collaborator ​Ewan Pearson​ - who remixed and produced for The Rapture -​ ​and Mastered by ​Sarah Register​ who has worked with the likes of Lee Scratch Perry, Ariana Grande, Amon Tobin and Depeche Mode.

Like a shadowplay for endtimes. Tamburi Neri, a duo from Milan, joins Worst Records’ strange catalogue with their debut LP. Soberly named « Ombre », it’s an organic entity filled with worry. If we discover again with pleasure their signature scarce and elegant style which drew the tension of their first releases, everything here is sewn as a delicate echo chamber. Hiroko’s voice responds to a relentless male spoken word, with invocations sometimes vaporous and sometimes lyrical. 

It’s a poetic canvas suspended over the void and balanced by hypnotic rythms on one side and synthetic avant garde minimalism on the other. This eighth pannel of Worst’s catalogue sets itself as a contemporanean piece far away from genre identifications and beautifully possessed in equal freshness and enlightening maturity.
