Hailing from Canberra/Ngunnawal country, Ellen was one of the minds behind the Throb parties and a regular at essential local institution Sideway. Now based in Naarm, you may have caught her playing music at a large number of parties including warming up for Ben UFO and DJ Boring. Her melt mix is an excellent excursion in various club sounds from proggy tek and breaks to disco tinged house and melodic UKG.

A shape-shifting water spirit, with the ability to transform into anything in pursuit of luring prey to its depths. Sonically conceptual, warm, classic-inspired and hardware-enriched palette with roots in 90’s Detroit style electronic music.
With an illustrious past in music, Nøkken is a fresh start for the elusive musician. The album opens with a Vangelis-like chord, setting the tone for the rest of the play. 808 drums and 303 bass-lines traverse Electro, Garage, Trip-hip, after-hours Techno Electronica, Ambient and...the list goes on. Nøkken closes the LP with a gorgeous Eno- inspired track, featuring field-recordings from the Nøkken itself.
The album will be available on high-bias cassette tape and digital.

PREMIERE | Nøkken - Espirit [Polymath] 2021

Gaining support from Dork Magazine, BBC Introducing Kent, and Mr Suicide Sheep on his previous releases, London-based producer Stresshead enters a new musical era as he leans towards electronic sonic horizons with the double single ‘U&ME/So High,’ due for release on May 10th, 2024, via Duckland Records. In ‘U&ME/So High,’ Stresshead narrates the progression of a relationship over time, combining electronic beats and textures with artfully rendered melodies, making his new offering a club-ready formula. He explains: “The two tracks serve as an insight into a short-lived relationship. A declaration of love in ‘So High’ vs. a grieving of loss in ‘U&ME.’ I wrote the tracks after coming home from a night out with an unshakeable urge to make a song I could play in a DJ set.”

This month, Stresshead made his DJ debuts opening for SILK at The Garage and mixing for Drinks on Me’s club night launch party.

He's back. After a break that felt like an eternity, @Cuthead has finally awoken from his creative beauty sleep to check up on his home base Uncanny Valley with his new album THE DETOUR. To avoid overexciting everyone’s attention span, the album is spread over four parts. And he's definitely not coming back as a cheapskate since the album is full of gifts that true Cuthead fans desire. In other words, he does what he does best: Blasting out slick tracks that oscillate between laid-back underground hip-hop, sample heavy house and vintage acid, but with enough surprises along the way. The tracks were created over the last few years, including some jams from his live set that he made while travelling or in a hotel.

As soon as the typical cozy, warm chords kick in during the INTRO of The Detour Part 1, you immediately feel at home again in Cuthead's world, where it's always Saturday afternoon and laid-back jams drip out of the speakers (at least on two of the four parts). On top of that, Chester Watson from St. Louis (one of Cuthead's absolute favorite rappers) provided a feature. With his distinctive voice and dreamy flow, Chester explains in not one but two versions of PROCEED how to carry on and stay relaxed despite adverse circumstances. TOUR DE FRANCE, on the other hand, is a trapstrumental for the masses in which a hi-hat thunderstorm is intertwined with a wind sample that constantly twists around itself.

The second in Cuthead's tetralogy is what we can certainly call a house monster. It starts with a track named after one of Cuthead’s special skills: MPC JAM. With its filter attacks and unmistakable drops, the track builds on Cuthead's great house floor fillers, leaving no ass standing still. SUNDAY 5 PM enters the floor like a bird of paradise with room-filling disco strings, before SPACED OUT follows with Theo Parrish-like grooves. MIDNIGHT ROUTE closes The Detour Part 2 with broken beats and an unusual but irresistible electronic bassline.

The opener of the third part once again praises the old promise of the House Nation, not without ZUBU being refined with the very own Cuthead spin, which definitely puts the track on a techno floor as well. POWER ACID lives up to its name and comes across as a classic warehouse acid screw that takes every rave to the edge. Understatement is also not required with PARTY LIKE IT'S 99. After all, every Saturday afternoon is followed by a Saturday night and a piano house bomb with a little ounce of acid always goes down well on such an occasion.

The final chapter of THE DETOUR opens promisingly and in typical Cuthead style with the aptly titled BONKERS and the kind of weirder head-nodding beat that only the Dresden resident can squeeze out of his samples. In LISOLEIL, Malone the Chemist drops his lines over what feels like an aquatic jazz foundation. Cuthead spotted the Canadian rapper when he posted a freestyle under a tweet from Flying Lotus. After that, the snares are turned up again in the sample fest that is FOXY. OUTRO is almost epic by Cuthead standards and could easily be the soundtrack to a modern giallo film.

The album is accompanied by beautiful animations created in collaboration between illustrator Robert Deutsch and animator Tobias Kramer.

There was only one way to tune it out, a simple saying which had done him well thus far.

That was all there was to it, the resistance was futile. For if every answer was yes, there was nothing less to persuade upon.

Squidbrain's latest release is a forthright and bass-fevered club jaunt with catchy vocal chop-ups, adventurous sound design and maximum floor crushability.

"What I Want" is a slamming bmore track with bass that'll make you dumber, crisp drum breaks that'll make you smarter again, and funky synths and vocals that will wiggle your mom's wig right off.  The track's strengths are in the beefed up kick, highly recognizable 90s vocal interpolations and fast-paced energy changes.

"Cattivaragazza" shows the indelible influence of Chicago footwork and rings with 90s staples like ravey pads, G-funk leads, and a foreigner that sounds like Fran Drescher.  All of these conspire in a torrent of frenetic percussion to blow the club up like the giant blue laser that blew up the stripper on top of the skyscraper in Independence Day.

About the Artist
Channeling the grit and power of east coast club music to Berlin, Philadelphia native Squidbrain is a restless and unpredictable producer.  Squidbrain’s resume of DJ appearances and dance music productions spans many aliases and incarnations that date back to 2011.  In recent years his work coalesced into hard-hitting club releases that vary in style but are resolute in delivering off-kilter dance tracks that are dark, gritty, and fun.  Squidbrain draws inspiration from disparate sources ranging from Container, Kate Bush, DJ Rashad, to the depths of the internet and non-music media, giving his tracks an unconventional edge.  With the strong Späti Creatures EP released on UKG heavyweight Stone Taro’s label NC4K, and garnering support on FJAAK’s Spandau20 podcast series, Rinse FM, Munich’s Radio 80000, and Beatport’s Link series among others, Squidbrain’s music has thrived in the underground for years.  Having honed his style behind the turntables in clubs as far reaching as Kanazawa Japan, Havana Cuba, and his adopted home of Berlin, Squidbrain’s fiercely independent and music-first approach continues to surprise and impress with raw and engaging moments in the club.
