Verona's resident purveyor of stomping Chicago and Detroit sounds brings his four-to-the-floor vinyl selections to 45turns. 

Camillo is a vinyl lover, deejay and selector, but above all always remains close to the dancefloor. Being rooted in soul, jazz and then 80s wave & electro, he approached house in 1988 in a quest to explore electronic music without boundaries.

We're excited to have Harlem-based 13th Hour Records honcho Nick Benson with us for number six in the selectors series. 

Nick is fresh from the release of 13th Hour Vol. 1, a four-track collection of nostalgic feel-good modern house productions premiering on Houseum, Dream Chimney and Sound Transitions. In this mix Nick showcases his diversity of taste, leading with sample-heavy jazz and orchestral house that melds with acid sensibilities and touches of last year's nu-disco revival, all coated in the warmth of analogue fuzz.

TRIPP is a guy we met on a boat in London's East End, where revellers gathered to see off the sunset in a swirling bacchanal of eclectic sounds. By the time night hit and the party came full force, we knew we had to invite him to the selectors series.

The Naples-born, London-based DJ and promoter takes inspiration from endless forays in bottomless record shops, and his sets are drizzled with a mellow 3D sound aesthetic that ranges from rainforest balearica and low-key deep house to old school Chicago and fuzzy electronica. This just came through the door, return address ‘Shirltone, Lonesome No More studios’. Like an angelic Jekyll from an enigmatic Hyde. We’re not sure who Lonesome No More’s co-creator is, but we’re more than chuffed about their 81 minute addition to the selectors. 

It’s a magnificent, erratic sweep through the waves of inner minimalist sounds, floating above the ether for a while, submerged in the crystalline glow of dying stars, before dipping in for moments of poignant solitude. Shirltone joins the dots between musical twinges, feelings and instincts, regardless of mood or genre. Blue Monday or sunny Tuesday - as you like it - soaked in a patience and perseverance missing from ragtag sets and mixes. Jazz, minimal, ambient, afro, classical, funk. Wild, free and intrinsically balearic.

selectors #08: shirltone

The selectors returns with an instalment from a close 45turns collaborator, Apulian-born, London-based artist and DJ Ikävä Pii. 

Ikävä is a serious collator, presenter and lover of music, always with his finger on the pulse and always building new ways to showcase the sounds that he loves to the world. From running the KBRK collective in Bari and creating the ‘outernational’ nomadic radio platform Roaming Radio to his most recent project heading up the enigmatic label TOO MUCH INFORMATION, Ikävä approaches his work from a precious angle, always hitting that spot somewhere between the grooves that others can never seem to find find. 

This mix for the selectors takes upbeat Brazilian psychrock, electro-punk grooves and hypnotic tribal ruminations amongst other eccentric flavours as its sonic palette, all presented with the smoothest of textures and flawless consistency. Getting lost in this mix is something like a trip to theatre, where a perfectly curated bacchanal of madness takes place before your eyes and fantasy becomes the norm. An eclectic trip, an inversion of the real, crossing continents and moons in 142 minutes. Enjoy selectors #09 from Ikävä Pii.

From the little that we know about Romolo Disco, it's safe to assume that we're onto something good. He was born in Uruguay and is responsible for kickstarting an underground disco scene in Montevideo, which today is thriving and provides refuge for a generation of good-time folks who might never have known their calling. He holds a growing stake in the underground landscape of São Paulo, spending the last five years throwing parties in warehouses, bunkers and abandoned rooftops all over Brazil's best party city. Word has it that he now lives in Amsterdam, making the occasional trip to Italy, Spain and the UK to introduce himself and share his feel-good sounds to the crowd of heads that gather.

There's little to be said about Italy's Carlo Troja that hasn't already been written. Sobriquets like king of dream house and progenitor of the original deep Italian sound are all true and can't be disputed, but they do serve to smooth out the enigma of an artist far more complex than vague platitudes and superlatives.

Washed out at its core and left to dry in the baking beat of the Sardinian sunshine. each little droplet rising, dissipating into the hot air to fall again at another time like flashes of nostalgia that rise and fizz and drift, selectors #13 is a myriad of spaces and caves that reveal themselves again a hundred times a minute. 

Pauli is a longtime collector of balearic sounds who hails from the Sardinian coastal capital of Cagliari, known for its colourful façades, boulevards and aperitvo spirit. Going by the name Cuirra Collection, Pauli’s breadth of knowledge of sizzling, blissed-out sonic waves sent us knocking for a mix, and here it is. Selectors #13 is two hours of receding sun that folds itself into your surroundings, settling into the cracks left by the things left unsaid. This is balearica Sardinia from a true collector and lover.

'The set has two sides. The first few tracks are slower and more breezy, I just wanted to show how Balearic some Uruguayan music can be. The second segment of the set is more about showing the actual Candombe, and it's various fusions with jazz, especially in the ending part that goes deep into jazz-funk. I added a couple of pure candombe tracks with no keys or any other instrument, just the 3 types of candombe drums (chico, repique and piano). For instance from "Morenada" which was a very popular street candombe group, with tens of drummers playing together. '
