47 revisits German artist OAKE’s seminal track “Paysage Dépaysé” in a special remix EP.

OAKE have established themselves as flagbearers for dark electronica in the years pursuant to their EP on Downwards in 2015, making cinematic dance music for imprints across the experimental-industrial axis—including a solo effort on 47 in 2019. After a series of standout early releases, the artists put out one of their canon-defining tracks, “Paysage Dépaysé,” as part of the Monad XXIV EP for Stroboscopic Artefacts. Now, it receives the remix treatment on 47029 with three dynamic and radically divergent approaches to OAKE’s atmospheric and deeply melancholic inaugural work, which will be pressed to vinyl for the first time.

The newly remastered original song is a post-industrial dirge that weaves OAKE singer Konstanze Bathseba Zippora’s otherworldly vocals over a noisy mothswarm of electronics, but label veteran Killawatt revs the first version’s subdued threnody up to a dance floor-friendly techstepper. On the B-Side, remixer Lemna uses a more restrained style, enshrouding the instrumentals under a martial sashay of tribal breakbeats, while 47 newcomer Quelza brings the collection to a ruminative close by bending and breaking Zippora’s virtuosic solo through a latticework of glitched-out synths and percussive stabs. Italian-born, Berlin-based artist VSK delivers his first solo release of 2023. The DJ, producer and familiar face on 47’s back catalogue blends searing techno with trippy motifs, building signature soundscapes, knife-edged textures and misty atmospheres.

Following his collaboration with Flaminia last year on 47, VSK dips into a haunting sound palette on 47036, fusing foreboding feels with an astral touch. The opener, “Sfere a Contatto”, sets the tone with a claustrophobic melody and noise-driven background, while “Terza Variabile” melds squelchy synth notes with marching kickdrums, evoking a menacing mood. On the B-side, the punchy “Ottimizzazion” stitches drone-like notes against a gravelly background, creating tension and a sense of unease. The final track, “Codici e Figure”, displays VSK’s broken-beat stylings, mutating witchy aesthetics and mechanical whirrs to stimulate a surreal, skin-crawling trip.

London-based DJ and producer Rommek releases on 47, showcasing his signature brand of seething, fragmented techno in this formidable label debut.

"Arkho" opens the EP with rolling drums before a heavily distorted synth line pierces the atmosphere, evoking tension and unease before launching into a furious lead. On "Silverlock," broken drums skitter across a droning soundscape, while a glitched-out melody adds a dark tint. "Decipher" squirms with a similarly syncopated rhythm and ice cold textures, topped with crisp hi-hats. Closing track "Synthetic Dream" is threatening but never overly dark, stitching weighty drums between tactile, warped-out synth notes. A chilling cut that conveys Rommek's shadowy aesthetic all the way through.

In a much-anticipated return to the imprint's catalogue, label head @tommyfourseven unveils his first solo release in four years: 47039. Lauded as a pioneer of "uncompromising vision" by Resident Advisor, the producer has further honed his tight, technical and highly nuanced palette in a collection that alchemizes rolling techno and plaintive broken beat. 

Opener "SWORN" is the toughest and most tactile track on the EP, sculpted with searing synth lines that snake through dense percussive thickets. On "IXIAN", Tommy gives a hazy nod to his roots in drum n' bass with a half time groove that splinters with meteoric sweeps and mangled vocals—a readout from beyond. The B-side is still stamped with Tommy's impeccable attention to sound design, yet it turns downwards, mining cavernous and soul-penetrating depths. "CYCLES", an aqueous four-to-the-floor cut that burbles with effervescent chord stabs, offers softer shades that spill into spectral ambient closer "AERIAL". It's a lighter side we rarely hear from the British talent, displaying his tenacity as a far-reaching, constantly evolving artist with a knack for bringing listeners into 47's far-reaching otherworldly fold.

47 marks TEN YEARS with its 47th and final release, closing the catalogue at 47047. 

Launched as an event series by Tommy Four Seven in Berlin’s intimate Arena Club in 2014, the 47 parties paved the way to the label we’ve come to know today, inspiring and encouraging a host of interdisciplinary artists along the way. The imprint opened in 2015 with a V/A, and now, ten years later, 47 comes full circle with the release of its last-ever record and compilation. 

As always, the various artist collection reflects the imprint’s long-running ethos of championing underground and upcoming talent. Titled ‘Ten Years’, the record features label debuts from Jin Synth, Casual Treatment, SAMA, Yrsen, and contributions from familiar faces like Pause, Rommek and AgainstMe, to name a few. 

Across the 20-track V/A, each artist delivers precise and sonically rich productions, spanning several palettes. You’ll find a dreamy soundscape punctuated by blips and bleeps from Amotik. Claustrophobic atmospheres and winding rhythms by Innersha. Liquid melodies and maximalist basslines from Ana Rs. Moonlit synths and icy motifs by VSK. Club-driven 4/4 techno with a metallic sheen from ASEC. An emotive take on ambient and techno from Linn Elisabet. A spiralling trip with IDM touches from Nørbak, and more.

‘Ten Years’ mirrors the adventurous attitude of 47, celebrating the artists and sounds who’ve helped to build the label’s solid reputation, leaving an indelible signature on electronic music for years to come.

Tommy Four Seven to release Veer Remixed via his own label, 47. 

On November 8th, the British DJ and producer, Tommy Four Seven, will release Veer Remixed, a double vinyl LP featuring remixes by Ansome, SØS Gunver Ryberg, Rhys Fulber, Pessimist, Parrish Smith, Stenny, Silent Servant, Machine Woman, Homemade Weapons and Sawf. 

Each artist - making their debut on the 47 label - has selected a track taken from Tommy’s second album Veer which was released earlier this year via his own 47 imprint. The result is a collection of 10 finely crafted reinterpretations of the original works.

Following the original album track order, Veer Remixed is designed to pull the listener into its parallel world, from roughed up off-beat cuts by Ansome, to ethereal post-punk takes by Silent Servant. Bone rattling Drum & Bass by Homemade Weapons to guitar fused dark beat from Parrish Smith.
