Sadess is about how we've attempted to deal with different hardships we've encountered in our lives. Making music together with our closest friends makes us feel a little less alone. We made this song with one of our best friends Ruby Koh who has an amazing voice and absolutely killed it.

From the band:
Going into this album we didn’t want to set any expectations for ourselves; we didn’t want any added pressure or limitations. So we went to a remote location on Lopez Island in Washington where we slept in canvas tents and huddled around wood fires at night. During the day we focused purely on music and the celebration of each other, working tirelessly on every aspect of the album. 

Living in this environment strengthened the bonds we share as a group to a point that we became sure of something: we are meant to create, and even if Nicky’s dog Dewey is the only one to ever hear the music, we will never stop creating. With this manifesto in mind, we created what we feel is our best work to date. We didn’t come up with the title ‘canvas’ until after the album was actually complete, but it fully and completely embodies the concept of the album. We didn’t want any ideas from the past to affect us, or any goals for the future to interfere with our creation. Each track was a blank canvas, and with nothing but the wilderness of northern Washington surrounding us, the only paint at our disposal was our minds, bodies, and emotions.

Life is manic, beautiful, and sometimes downright heartbreaking. This past year, one of our best friends end up in a coma after a traumatic accident. Some of us got to experience true love for the first time. And we all got to share our music with more people than ever before. This album represents each group member’s individual life experiences and styles, but also our group dynamic that has kept us together, years before we made music at all. To capture everything, sometimes we splattered paint onto the canvas indiscriminately, while at others we tried to paint the most photorealistic portraits possible. This album is about putting ourselves into the world through a singular and definitive project, knowing that at the end of the day, as long as we have each other, nothing else matters.
