Setting the gain structure up is quite essential so you have headroom to sculpt the sound. Straight away I bring all the close mic faders down around 15db. The room mics for the kick are brought down further so they don't swamp the mix. 

Some simple EQ is applied and plenty of parallel compression (UAD Fatso) and distortion (Soundtoys Devil Loc)  for the snare and room mics. The kick mics were also sent to a separate aux where the "60 hz Pultec trick" is used and the Little Labs VOG. It basically gives you a fader for tight low end.
