BID'AH IS MY RESPONSE TO THE INTERSECTIONS OF ISLAMOPHOBIA AND MAINSTREAM LGBTQ MOVEMENTS. IT EMBODIES MY ANGER, MY FRUSTRATION, AS WELL AS THE HOPE AND LOVE I HAVE FOR MY QTPOC/MUSLIM COMMUNITY. CREATING IT WAS AN EXERCISE IN REFLEXIVITY, IN TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THE LIMINAL SPACE I OCCUPY AS A QUEER MUSLIM AND THE BELONGING I ATTEMPT TO MANUFACTURE WITHIN FAMILY AND THE COMMUNITIES I MOVE BETWEEN. IT TRACES THE FRICTION THAT IS MY RELATIONSHIP WITH THE STATE AND ASKS WHETHER INSTILLING FEAR IN OTHERS AS A MUSLIM IN POST 9/11 AMERICA IS A TOOL FOR SURVIVAL. CAN FEAR BE PRODUCTIVE IN ESTABLISHING AUTONOMY?
