premiere: Raffy Peyré - Duotone Sunrise [Bandcamp Exclusive]

WHATCLASS, the trailblazing platform redefining music learning through artist-led Classes, mentorship, and structured curriculums, has joined forces with iconic DJ and producer Joris Voorn and his label, Spectrum, to offer a select group of emerging, and established, producers the opportunity to release their music on Spectrum.

Voorn, who has collaborated with WHATCLASS to create an exclusive tutorial, curated submissions from the platform's students, ultimately selecting five standout tracks for this debut WHATCLASS compilation. The resulting collection highlights innovative sounds and fresh perspectives from aspiring international artists.

Opening the compilation is Slovenian producer Eskape with 'Lost Desert,' a track that sets the mood with warm pads, wistful melodies, and ethereal vocals - a perfect introduction to our new Spectrum journey. Following is Brazilian duo Fernandez & Silvera with 'Parallel Life,' building on the momentum of their recent Purified signing 'Emptiness.' The duo's track combines delicate synths, flutes, and minimal percussion to create an uplifting, melodic soundscape.

Representing the UK, Jay Lapse raises the energy with 'CB1,' marked by relentless hi-hats, a pounding kick drum, and haunting keys that form a stark, desolate techno soundscape, softened by its eerie strings.

From there, the compilation shifts to a housier vibe with Swedish producer Magnuss and his groovy, deep houser 'I Can Feel It,' followed by the hypnotic, percussive beats of Shombo's 'Feel Ya' - two standout house cuts guaranteed to energise any dance floor and a fitting finale for this debut showcase of exciting talent.

59 Perlen is the solo music project from Matthias Rosenkranz. He was born in Gemany and lives nowadays in Zurich, Switzerland. Producing electronic music since 20 years, he started to create computerless tracks in 2020 and released "Dawless", a minimalistic album entirely performed on music hardware, and he scored a number of ambient tracks for contemporary art projects. 

"When Left Alone" is a continued journey of this process. As the album opens with "A Hot Kinda Musician" you get a haunting feeling come over you. There are multiple moments similar to this on the album. 

Then all of a sudden the minimal dub beats bring you out of that zone and give the listener an almost different direction to follow. A perfect example is the closing track "Worthwhile". It gets a bit more upbeat but still has that dark feeling. 

The sounds and textures throughout the album are very pleasing to the ears. You will find yourself discovering more hidden sounds every time you hear it. Sit back and chill with the headphones on while enjoying this album.

DJ and producer Malcolm came to our attention through his tastefully curated label, Global Warming Records, a platform that are making the end of the world sound just as they like it — just how we like it too.

Since starting the imprint Malcolm has brought friends and new producers into the fold, the likes of Ouai Stéphane, N-ERGY, Jon Beige and Sutja Gutierrez, who have all showcased their own take on dub-wise atmospherics, dystopian bass experiments and heavy syncopated rhythms.

Freshly moved from Paris to London (literally - he got off the plane a couple of days ago), Malcolm brings a touch of the dystopian and cinematic to his own productions too, which have landed on labels like Abstrack and Biologic.

Not one to churn out mixes regularly, he's prepared something very special for us. Weaving together obscurities and unreleased edits finished especially for this, Malcolm shares the moods and sounds at the core of what he does.

James Vernon’s ‘Web Flight’ rounds off the EP with rough-edged modulations, looping rhythms and haunting pads that spiral in and out of focus with pure eccentricity.
