This song tell the story of Oswald Laurence...

From the late 1960’s early 70’s the voice of the London Underground’s PA announcement ‘Mind the Gap’ was voiced by Oswald Laurence, a theatre actor originally from Hamburg, Germany, who lived in London with his wife Margaret McCollum. His announcement was played hundreds of times a day in all 272 underground stations. Up to and even after Oswald’s death in 2007, Margaret would take a daily visit to Embankment station (her nearest), just to hear his voice. 
 
One day, without warning, the voice of Oswald was replaced by an automated one, causing Margaret much sadness. After approaching London Transport, she was eventually gifted the original cassette recording. 
 
However, the story doesn’t end there. After a series of meetings it was decided to reinstate Oswald’s voice to Embankment station, and so Margaret was able to continue her daily routine of sitting on a bench and listening to her beloved Oswald.
