Pretty poor overall... so many mistakes. But a 2nd attempt to record from my Kawai CN32. Slightly better than the last.

1st attempt to record from my Kawai CN32, thus sound quality very bad.

Chopin, Etude, Op. 10, No. 6

First take of this.

Timing is off in places (not much practice). There is some annoying unevenness of right hand figure at start and end, and also these figures are definitely too loud (this is partly a recording issue). A few moments of awkward pauses... in short another recording required...

Ravel, Miroirs, No. 5 ("La vallée des cloches")

A little errorful but good enough for now.

Played from memory but I accidentally missed a couple of repeated bars towards the end (see if you can work out which ones).

One of my favourite Scriabin pieces. Its tonal ambiguity is very interesting.

Chopin, Nocturne, Op. 27, No. 1

Quick and dirty effort. Recorded on my Kawai CA79 instead of the real piano, which is out of tune and due to lockdown will stay out of tune for some time to come :(

On reflection I play this piece too quickly. Also I think I speed up over time. Many other versions are slower and I tend to agree with their interpretation of the tempo in retrospect. Bad habits. The Cadenza is also not great.

Hobbyist. Gradually recording pieces in ad-hoc fashion.

Recordings tend to be the first take that didn't involve many errors or poor articulations. They have not been subject to any audio 'massaging' (except addition of slight reverb post-processing). They have mistakes but not enough to be distracting.

Mostly recorded on a Kawai K300 piano. Or my Kawai CA79 digital piano if the real one is out of tune.

My piano teacher as a teenager was Simon Brown, who is also an excellent jazz pianist based in Norwich.
