JBando has been releasing a recent string of killer singles, blurring the lines between old-school rap, contemporary hip-hop, neo-soul, and pretty much everything in between.
The artist’s creative footprint is absolutely astonishing. In fact, JBando knows how to fully voice his ideas, in order to create something that’s remarkable and out of the ordinary. An example? His most recent studio release, “Wide Awake,” falls into this particular category. The song has a diverse and unapologetic vibe, with a dream-like atmosphere. At the beginning of the song, it almost feels like the song is actually fading into reality from a deeper underworld. The beat kick in soon after, along with the lyrical flow. The cool, moody vibe of this song makes me think of “Swimming,” the most recent release by Mac Miller, as well as other works from artists as diverse as Kendrick Lamar, and Frank Ocean, among other artists.
This song has a killer production flow, courtesy of Jbeats. In addition to the great sound of the beat, it’s also worth mentioning the artwork. The drawing is really cool and the mix of psychedelic, sci-fi and comic-like aesthetics really suit the vibes of JBando’s work on this particular release.
What I really love about this release is that it feels like the artist unlocked his full visionary potential. This song doesn’t necessarily remain anchored to any given particular style or flow but rather explores a huge range of musical characteristics. There is melody, energy, moodiness, deep bass tones, catchy lyrics, and huge effects. In other words, the works! This song has got everything you would expect from a great modern rap song, and so much more. JBando never ceases to impress me with each and every new project he brings to the table, and this astonishing new song is no exception at all. It is not surprising that fans are already receiving the song so positively, as shown by the many enthusiastic comments that you can read on JBando’s official page on Soundcloud.
“Wide Awake” is highly recommended to anyone with a love for great textures and cool soundscapes, because one of the most memorable aspects of the beat is the fact that the song textures are so deep. Instead of just having a “one-dimensional” feel, this release feels like 3D. By that, I mean that the space is not flat, but so lively and diverse, making for a really intriguing and one-of-a-kind flow.
The beats have got a really trippy vibe, making for a more in-depth listening experience. Every bar has got so much depth, and the drums have a perfect swing, that locks in with the lyrics and creates a very natural sound, making the song all the more special. This is definitely a release that sets the bar higher for JBando, and it is yet another example of his songwriting skills. One of the best things about modern hip-hop artist is to witness how they are so keen on experimenting with different ideas and pushing the envelope, instead of being stuck to the same old cliches. As a result, the sound does not feel like yet another take on the usual cliches, but something that’s more spontaneous and innovative.
JBando worked his magic on “Wide Awake,” with a very unique mix of great lyrics and engaging grooves. The lyrical hooks are immediately appealing, and this here release portrays the artist’s creative freedom in full. The song channels a huge range of influences to perfection, resulting in a balanced, diverse and exciting tone. It will certainly cater to a very broad fan-base, and you do not need to be a hip-hop fan to like this track.
