Simply put, I wanted to make an EP that brings in more of my lifelong musical influences so my brother enjoys it more when he listens in heaven. I wanted to give him a project he keeps on repeat because he loves it and not because he’s still my biggest supporter, even if he’s not here anymore. Thomas was actually the first of us to dream about being a musician. He cracked Ableton and got his hands on DJ turnstiles in the 7th grade. Since he passed, I’ve been carrying that dream for the both of us. When I think of the ‘old soundcloud’, I think of 2012 when Thomas was showing me a new app he found that had all the best new house music on it. The beat selection and vocal mixing on this EP are directly inspired by the musicians that my brother and I idolized together. My favorite song he ever showed me was “Wake Me Up” by Avicii. The EP title pays homage to Avicii, who also tragically passed away in 2018, and the influence that him and all the other artists my brother showed me had on us growing up. I’ve always incorporated my brother into my lyrics and my story, but this time I wanted to honor him by giving him something he would love, and I hope you do too.
