years before the refrigerator?
People think you are a roller.
But I know you are a skater.

I can't dance in your shoes, Mommy...

Doubt I can name all the funny things on the table
but I'm sure the cops can if you make me mad.
Why can't you step away from your reflection
and notice that it's not normal for me to be this sad?

I can't dance in your shoes, Mommy...

Twenty years later,
I cherish my own scribble  on crinkled up paper
lying in the trash with all kinds of stuff spilled on it
more than your peek-a-boo maternal babble.

I'm not sure I will ever be able to dance in your shoes...
I think I'd rather go barefoot.
