“Not My Circus” ist ein stiller Aufstand voller rauchiger Ironie. Es geht um jemanden, der alles gesehen hat, die Leere hinter der Show spürt – und sich entscheidet, auszusteigen. Mit einem klaren Blick durchschaut die Erzählerin das Chaos um sich herum – Clowns, Masken, Spielchen – bleibt aber unbeteiligt und verweigert sich dem Mitspielen. The girl across the street paints her windows white
Trying to bleach the ghosts of a Friday night
The truck in the lane gives a heavy cough

I don’t really care where the monkeys go
I know the clowns and I know their style

The city light flickers then it turns to grey
So I light a smoke and I walk away

The broken hearts and the fair-weather friends
Leaning back slow with a silver spoon
Waiting for the sun to hit the afternoon

Who’s chasing shadows when the lights go down?
Who’s the king of this empty town?
Who’s got the umbrella when the storm begins?
Who’s the one counting all your sins?

Maybe I’m a clown in a different mask
The answer to a question that you never ask
But I folded the tent and I packed the bags
Leaving all the noise and the velvet rags
