LohArano's style is a merge of rock and malagasy ternary rhythms from Tsapiky and Salegy that result in a new sound of metal. 

Their first EP, titled LohArano, released in spring 2020 on Libertalia Music ltd, affirms their mixed heritage that created their story. It's a parable of malagasy's past, present and future identity told through their bubbling rock fusion combining  electric guitars and mystical sounds like an homage to nature and the Big Island. LohArano affirms their bubbling rock fusion and their mixed heritage that created their story. They drawing as much from rock as from the ancestral ternary rhythms, they mixe and fuse them, endlessly, to extract a new sound.

The powerful trio is led by the charismatic Mahalia on lead vocals and guitar, she assumes her feminism in a country where being a rocker woman is (almost) heretical. Mika is on bass guitar, he doesn’t stay in place, he grooves with super-powerful rhythms even jazzy and funky tones. Natiana is the drummer, the flow is hectic, his tones hitting and striking. The term is brutal, metal, groovy, full of life.

Their 1st concert outside Madagascar in december 21’ was a big success. They left their mark on everyone who saw them on stage of the 43rd Trans Musicales Festival of Rennes .

From Gossip to Prince via Skunk Anansie with a hint of tropical touch. She is the next generation of the indie scene of Tana  at only 23 years old!

At the age of 8, she encountered the genius bassist, Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report) , and it became crystal clear that she will be the bassist, join forces with her brother Benkheli (guitar) and husband Sylvano (drums). 

Result? 	
The kind of rock that will strike you with a hot iron to proudly brandish their roots, which is somewhat ironic for an island that has electricity covering 23%.

 It was after a performance in 2017 Libertalia Festival that launched the career of the rocket songstress by music label itself.

Her first 5 tracks was released shortly after, titled TNM, which means hangover.  Then her performance at MaMa festival Paris and Bars en Trans Rennes established her position as the next newcomer.

When you come from Madagascar, one of the poorest and corrupt countries in the world, the abolition of inequalities inevitably strikes a distinctive chord. Feminism isn’t just about exchanging ideas: it’s about survival, if feminism calls for fairness, Kristel will earn her freedom fair and square through music.
She pulls off high school diploma by15, collects music collabs. While performing live the crowd has eyes only for her, putting the frontmen on the back burner.  Joining forces with brother Benkheli and hubby Sylvano, Kristel makes her own way. Turns the tables with a spontaneous and high-voltage pop. Pure heresy in the vicinity.

Une femme -  Bassiste -  Leader de son trio

À 8 ans, elle découvre le  génie de la basse Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report). C’est évident : elle jouera aussi de la basse et s’associera à son frangin Benkheli (guitare) et son mari Sylvano (batterie) pour monter son trio. 

Résultat ? 
Une pop spontanée, énergique, hérétique localement. De celle marquant au caleçon, la gueule en avant et les origines annoncées dès l’perron. Un comble pour une île-continent, électrifiée à seulement 23%.

Il aura fallu la rencontre en 2017 avec le label Libertalia Music, lors de son festival au printemps, pour que la fer de lance poursuive son bond… 

Après la sortie de son premier 5 titres TNM  (= gueule de bois) à l'automne, Kristel est l’invitée 	du MaMA festival (Paris) puis des Bars en Trans (Rennes), elle en sera une des découvertes !

Car à la forme se mêle le fond : ce n’ est donc pas seulement un féminisme qui s’avoue ici, c’est 	aussi l’avenir d’une génération et la reconnaissance d’une nation qui se joue.

« Out and Loud » is, of sorts, Kristel’s « Live and Let Die »; the energy needed to make their star shine and defy the political and economic slump overtaking the paradise that is Madagascar.
« Out and Loud » is a rollercoaster of contradictory emotions that translate the difficulties the trio faces, and their fiery will to not be let down by this often hostile environment. Kristel brings tribal rhythms to « Out and Loud », showing that they are ready for battle, ready to defend their freedom of speech, and especially their rebellion towards the « no future » culture adopted by the new generation on the island. But there are also surprises like guitars that flirt with synthesisers and programming. The tours have forced the band to grow, and it’s also their thirst for freedom that pushes them to evolve their rock sound towards a more ambitious production. « Out and Loud » becomes a hymn, militant and hedonistic. Fuck the problems, it is time to dance on the embers.

Kristel clenches her fist and returns with a new single in the form of an uppercut. "Wait for me" shows that the Malagasy group has not forgotten their roots of melody and powerful hymns with guitar riffs that fall heavy, but Kristel changes category by signing a pop track, which opens up new horizons. The production is enriched by a more electro sound and the incursion into the rap world with a feat by Kim Jah places them at the heart of a new game. The urban sound of "Wait for me" evokes the fusion of MIA or Santigold without renouncing the energy of their beginnings. These 3 little devils propelled by the voice of their charismatic singer display their ambition; an imposing sound of a youth that mocks barriers.
The track ‘Wait for me’ has as much impatience and tension as Kristel while waiting. The trio took the lead with a new sound that makes you want to shake it just as much as it makes you want to scream your rage to live.

The style is a fusion of metal and traditional Malagasy music, like two rivers joining together, taking everything in their path. For the past five years, LohArano has been gaining experience, drinking from all the currents they cross to trace their path, halfway between the ancestral rhythms of Tsapiky and Salegy, and joining the big sounds of Pantera or System of a Down. 

LohArano is a new thought, a new message, like an incantation to drive out the negativity around you, and call for a conscience awakening.

With a minimalist intro, vibrating bass lines and guitar riffs… it’s an explosive cocktail that sets the tone for this first single, an extract from the next mini-album “Take it Easy”. With new collaborations including the guidance of Adam Clayton (U2) for the arrangements and mixing, Kristel is back and fired up : rock energy, spiced with touches of pop and trip-hop.

Mafy Loha means stubborn in Malagasy.Kristel talks about the environmental situation, pollution, deforestation issue because this young generation is in a state of emergency planning their future for themselves and for the nation.
