Influenced by new wave, deep, techno, and ambient sounds, Richelieu evolves in a futuristic universe, close to the imagination of science fiction.

His experimentation with machines gives his music a style that is minimalist yet complex, evident in the analogical melodic sequences and the precise rhythms of the drums.

This EP produced some time ago and whose release was delayed due to the pandemic, is a project for which he feels a certain nostalgia because it is not just the result of a simple artist / label collaboration but of a friendship.

Following the huge success of his debut album ‘Caligo’, Spor has hooked up with powerhouse producer Memtrix to present ‘Memtrix & Spor: Darkest Hours’ forthcoming on Sotto Voce/Lifted Music.  The track will be released on 14th September. 

‘Darkest Hours’ begins with a stream of deep cinematic melodies progressing into a melting pot of cutting-edge bass sonics and crisp drum grooves; accompanied by ambient vocals. The B-side entitled ‘Super Trace’ unfolds as a dark roller combined with sharp percussion sounds, certain to get a dance floor moving.

With over 1 million views on his track ‘All You Are’ on YouTube and over 5 releases under his belt at the age of 19, this is the start of a long journey in the world of drum & bass for Memtrix. "Working with Spor has definitely been an eye opening and insightful experience,” he says, “but I think more than that it's just been really fun. It always seems really natural and fluent in the studio and we bounce ideas off each other really well I think. Obviously it's an absolute privilege for me to work with such a household name who's work I respect so much, and this release is something I'm really proud of and excited about."

SHDW002 arrives with a pumping kick and a gorgeous guitar loop. As the filter opens, the landscape widens – laidback percussion, then soothing strings, before a powerful hit of bass and vocals, and we’re off. Two Tail’s ‘Willie Has A Hunch’, grooves along blissfully, before a spoken word sample comes to twist the meaning and flip the mood. ‘You’ve Got Me’, is an appropriate title for a Harry Parsons track where a percussive groove, staccato horns, and those handclaps grip the listener and never relinquish control the result being a thoroughly enjoyable 6 minutes of communal dancefloor goodness.

Tribal percussion ushers in Side B, as Alex Wooley begins to build ‘Walkin’ Away’ around a yearning and disheartened vocal sample. Despite the free-flowing instrumentation, the vocals maintain a subtle air of melancholy, which anchor this track in raw, remorseful emotion. Mr Lover Lover concludes proceedings with a confident swagger. ‘I Would (Like To Get To Know)’ flips Brandy’s ‘I Wanna Be Down’ into an enticing dancefloor shaker - the perfect closer.

This dub was the favorite of all the mixes. Most the guitars you hear i had to put into the sampler since i only had 4 digital tracks at the time. It was mixed on my cheap analog mixer... Vivian Sessoms is the singer here. She just improvised off the original vocal. It's probably her first take. With her i don't think i ever went over 2 takes. She is great to work with.

Drew is a dj / mix technician: He see music as a jigsaw without an image, he can intricately fuse music together and instanly know were that piece of music will fit into the jigsaw he's building.This does not necessarily have to be house music it goes for all genres of music which makes his sets distinctive. Drew has always had a love of music but his fascination with dj mixing started in the early 80's with electro scene and the fact u could manipulate music by mixing 2 tracks together had him hooked. Which lead him to get 2 record players and a hand full of electro albums,so in the late 80's when house music came along it was a natural progression and that's why to this day his love and passion for it still runs through his veins.........
