Juno Review:

Yam Who?'s Midnight Riot label is one of the big daddies of the current nu-disco scene. His eponymous compilation series are known for their ridiculously high levels of quality and this latest one is no different - there's a whopping 24 tracks to choose from. Strangely the label boss doesn't seem to appear this time round but we do get the silky electro-house of Digital Human's "You're My Last Chance", the killer cyborg electro-funk of 80s Child's "Contagious" and the other-worldly deep-jacking soul of "U Know How To Love Me".


'CONTAGIOUS' [80's Child Rework]

Masterworks Music certainly know how to make an entrance, kicking off their new "Bag Of Tricks" series with a star-studded cast of studio wizzards. The young label hand pick four of the best high-end sizzlers from a who's who of the nu-disco scene, providing any jock on the frontline with a whole lot of bang for their buck. First up, Spain's edit master Rayko takes a break from his Rare Wiri imprint to turn out a red hot electro-disco groover based on Chic's "Dance Dance Dance" - scorchio! Next up, Kiu D follows up his impressive release on Special Edition with the housed up heat of italo-funk freakout "New Year", a slick hit of synths and strings which will get everyone on the floor. On the flipside, 80's Child power dresses to impress with the shoulder-padded power-stomp of "Bangkok Nights", the perfect new wave sleazer complete with MASSIVE 80's snares. Last but not least, we bask in the soul-glow shimmer of the disco ball as Dr Packer leads the club into the erection section with synth-soul seducer "Too Much For Me To Take". C'est magnifique!

'ALL SHE NEEDS' [80's Child Rework]

Hitting off with the first offering on his new imprint, SupaEarth Records, Ruff Diamond returns firmly to his Disco/Boogie/Funk roots to deliver the floor shaking 114 BPM jam - 'Rock The Discotheque'.

Packed with a Funkadelic-esque driving bassline, infectious Disco-Rap hook, vocals that hit the Lisa Lisa spot and a beat full of all things Boogie n' Bounce, this gem will be rocking dancefloors & roller jams from Manchester to Miami, Ibiza and back. 

On synths duty, Electric Diplomat adds a nice slice of icing on the cake with a cheeky Funkalicious Organ part, and Juno & Moog licks that take it back to the goodtimes of D Train & Grandmaster Flash.

Topped with futuristic cosmics and slick Vocoder from Ruff Diamond, the Main & Radio mix will appeal to a wide spectrum of DJs, crossing genres from Nu-Disco to Funk & Urban.

On remix duty are Disco edits Don - 80s Child (Masterworks Music) & Manchester remix maestro - Lempo (Snoop Dogg, General Levy, Applique Music). 

With a hint of 'Electric Boogaloo', 80s Child delivers a less vocal, more dubbed version, with hard hitting kick, glorious delays, adding a Nile Rogers-esque guitar hook reminiscent of the Bowie era.

Inspired by the productions of fellow dusty fingered archivists such as Greg Wilson, Late Nite Tuff Guy, & Tiger & Woods, Danny’s edits have grown wilder as he’s experimented, extended and completely re-worked into some of the hottest club edits around, a brilliant Dj who always displays his love for all things 80’s.

Danny has also Dj’d with and been on the same line up with some of the best around including, Late Nite Tuff Guy, Ron Basejam, Dr Packer, Greg Wilson, Faze Action & Yam Who? to name but a few.

He also set up his label Masterworks Music in 2014 which has had releases from some of the biggest producers around both Vinyl & Digital and support from some of the best in the business.
