Headlining a burgeoning wave of Naarm/Melbourne talent, nickname subscribes to a system-shredding style that is entirely his own.

Drawing from various influences, his maverick creations “bridge the gap” between destructive jungle, broken bass, and modern techno, evading any attempt to typecast. A master of manipulation, nickname’s resampled sonics dance beside penetrating percussive patterns, showcasing a palpable command of breaks. With his easy-going persona shining through his music, he delivers free-flowing and fractured pulses with a lighthearted grin.

Having found homes on Phasmid’s ‘Taipan Trax’, DJ Loui's Jupiter4, STÜM’s ‘Happy Wax’ and Mincy’s ‘Extra Spicy’, nickname’s riotous releases have rampaged floors at the hands of VTSS, Kessler, and DJ Spit, among countless other.

CHEAHDX @cheahdx (chia-dee-ex) is Boorloo native Darren Cheah’s solo electronic project.  

Darren (he/him) has been producing music for a number of years prior to honing his skills on the decks at a number of events across both Boorloo & Naarm over the last year. Darren also performs in the live electronic duo Jersey Street Sound Generator (JSSG), which is also set to launch their debut release alongside some upcoming support slots for both Moktar and Reptant.

“Written between Boorloo/Eora/Naarm at the close of 2022, this 6 track EP is made with the underground dance floor in mind. Drawing heavily from the Australiana-prog and modern trance movement; this EP blends these sounds with club ready dub, breaks and IDM influences. 

I’m excited to finally release this baby into the wild as its been a long time coming. I’m deeply inspired by the friends I’ve made along the journey of crafting this release! The year is 2077. Society has collapsed under the control of a brutal dictatorship. The UK is a military state and all uprisings are suppressed. But one last bastion of resistance remains…through a network of squat raves and free parties…the Night Ravers Control The Underground.

‘The Night Ravers’ is the first release on Codename: RCRDS, the new label from Southampton-based jungle, 160 and atmospheric crew Codename: Amen. The release and label channel the energy of the 90’s rave era, pushing the sound forward into exciting new directions for 2023.

Moakz’s original mix marks a movement away from his previous atmospheric and jazz jungle releases, and towards his hardcore roots. Now complemented by storming remixes from the incredible RAVETRX (HooverSound, forthcoming Club Glow), and the release closes out with the superbly talented NonRev and rising star Cold Leader delivering innovative reworks, with this EP provides a marker of intent for the label and collective artists.

Future releases on Codename: RCRDS will continue to mine the Jungle / Hardcore / 160 and Atmospheric continuums, via a series of various artist releases commencing from May 2023.

Founded in NYC, RAPRAVE seeks to unify international sounds and dancefloors. 

Since the inception of both hip-hop and electronic music, crossovers between the two have produced countless subgenres (ghettotech, juke, hip-house, dnb, trip-hop, grime - to name a few).
