After lighting up Hot Creations earlier this year with ‘Move Your Feet’, Papa Marlin makes a swift return to the label, this time joined by Ibiza-based Alev Tav, who makes her debut on Jamie Jones’ imprint, with ‘Funk Like Dis ’ - a three-track EP steeped in Garage textures and built for summer floors, arriving 20th June. The title track ‘Funk Like Dis’ opens with oﬀ-kilter synths that pulse and ripple, setting a trippy, groove-packed scene perfect for peak-time energy.
‘Find Underground’ maintains that momentum with a slick, swung rhythm and wobbling
groove that keeps the momentum tight and the vibe relentless. The finale, ‘Bass Roll Out’, drops a thick, fuzzy bassline fused with cascading percussive elements, creating a rich, wobbling texture that feels both raw and polished. Known for his lush, groove-heavy sound and sharp percussion, Papa Marlin approaches music with a genuine love for the art—a dedication that has earned him backing from artists such as Claptone, Solardo, and Gorgon City, along with spins on BBC Radio 1. Now teaming up with Alev Tav, a fast-rising talent on the Ibiza circuit known for her sets at venues such as Amnesia, Destino, and Cova Santa for events including Space, Deeperfect, and IMS Ibiza, the pair present their debut collaboration, ‘Funk Like Dis’ —a bold, bass-driven fusion of groove and energy.

WHATCLASS, the trailblazing platform redefining music learning through artist-led Classes, mentorship, and structured curriculums, has joined forces with iconic DJ and producer Joris Voorn and his label, Spectrum, to offer a select group of emerging, and established, producers the opportunity to release their music on Spectrum.

Voorn, who has collaborated with WHATCLASS to create an exclusive tutorial, curated submissions from the platform's students, ultimately selecting five standout tracks for this debut WHATCLASS compilation. The resulting collection highlights innovative sounds and fresh perspectives from aspiring international artists.

Opening the compilation is Slovenian producer Eskape with 'Lost Desert,' a track that sets the mood with warm pads, wistful melodies, and ethereal vocals - a perfect introduction to our new Spectrum journey. Following is Brazilian duo Fernandez & Silvera with 'Parallel Life,' building on the momentum of their recent Purified signing 'Emptiness.' The duo's track combines delicate synths, flutes, and minimal percussion to create an uplifting, melodic soundscape.

Representing the UK, Jay Lapse raises the energy with 'CB1,' marked by relentless hi-hats, a pounding kick drum, and haunting keys that form a stark, desolate techno soundscape, softened by its eerie strings.

From there, the compilation shifts to a housier vibe with Swedish producer Magnuss and his groovy, deep houser 'I Can Feel It,' followed by the hypnotic, percussive beats of Shombo's 'Feel Ya' - two standout house cuts guaranteed to energise any dance floor and a fitting finale for this debut showcase of exciting talent.
