Montreal duo Hoopalaï drop rugged retro house 12” on Icewax Records

Opening cut ‘Electric Tartar’ is a night-time joyride with colourful arps, an irresistible bassline and filtering synths, its chic reverb giving it a disco-tinged dose of nostalgia. Next up is ‘SonaBar2am’, this after-hours offering melts minds with dubbed-out rhythm and continuously evolving effects. ‘Das Geht Nicht’ then closes out the record, its sweeping guitars and tingling acid making for a synth-fueled dancefloor bomb.

HOOPALAÏ was founded in 2015 by longtime friends Lebaron & Pfreud, who quickly established themselves as key artists in the Montreal scene by frequenting spots like Stereo Bar and Piknic Electronik alongside names like Gene Farris, Wolf + Lamb & Marc Rebillet. Their debut release was charted by legendary American artist Felix Da Housecat, leading the way in a series of quality releases on labels such as Get Physical Music, Kindisch, Poésie Angulaire & Victims Music Company.
