Indie Sample

Guest speaker Rickey Boyd from Magnetic Dreams will be on campus March 17, 2015 for his presentation: Puppets to Pixels. The event will take place in the Heydel Fine Art Center beginning at 4:00 pm. There will be a small reception to follow after.
 
Rickey Boyd is the creative director of middle Tennessee animation studio Magnetic Dreams. During the late 1980s and 1990s, Boyd worked extensively with the Jim Henson Company famous for creating the Muppets. His work during this period included hit TV shows such as The Dinosaurs and Jim Henson Hour as well as movies including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, and Muppets From Space.
At Magnetic Dreams he has continued working with Jim Henson’s Muppets and more often with Sesame Street’s Elmo and Cookie Monster as both a puppeteer and animation director. Boyd’s involvement does not end there: he is creative director for the studio’s multiple projects.
 
Magnetic Dreams produces a wide variety of projects for the commercial entertainment, film and video, and broadcast industries specializing in motion graphics, 3D animation, look refinement, compositing, and visual effects. In both 2D and 3D work, the company mixes digital techniques with traditional artistic approaches to serve its varied clients. Just a few of the company’s many notable projects are the “SpongeBob Moves In” game app, numerous Sesame Street Specials including the Cookie Monster movie parody series, Taylor Swift’s “Fifteen” music video, a commercial for Dell Computers, and multiple Marvel Motion Comics.
