This is a sequence of snippets of my composition Morpheme. I generated all sounds from a recording of Sadie Plant speaking 'To let noise into the system is a kind of fine art in both cybernetic terms and in terms of making music, too.'

Born in Venezuela and based in Barcelona, Luis Garban aka Cardopusher has spent the last decade creating a wide variety of noisy dancefloor assaults. Although his roots lie in the breakcore scene, he’s slowly gravitated toward a raw, electro-infused take on techno that is no less compelling. Along the way, he’s released music via labels like Terminal Dusk, Murder Channel, Hyperdub, and Tigerbeat 6, and has also found the time to launch his own Classicworks imprint, which he continues to run alongside co-founder Nehuen. Cardopusher has also forged a relationship with German bass enthusiast Boys Noize, issuing a pair of EPs as well as two full length albums.

We are proud to present a new 6-track EP titled ‘Muscle Memory’ that takes the listener on a deep and gritty ride through his diverse sound, from techno to electro, acid, rave, and house. Luis is inspired by labels like Warp, Schematic, Planet Mu, Rephlex, as well as EBM and New Beat. Hard-smacking claps and raw TB-303 sequences merge with robotic vocals, solid and perfect for dark dance floors. The B-side features one track with haunting guest vocals by fellow Barcelona musician, Ivy Barkakati. Luis says the main themes of this EP are obscurity, desperation, confusion, nostalgia, escaping the world’s indifference. All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. Housed in a workout themed die-cut jacket designed by Eloise Leigh with raw acid-style mixed bold type and sporty graphics.

I’m proud to present my remix for Chris Carter, out now on @muterecords . Carter has been a true musical inspiration for me over the years. I first heard Throbbing Gristle’s 20 Jazz Funk Greats at my record shop job as a kid and I remember not being able to concentrate on anything else for the entire time it was on. I had never heard any music like it before and it still sounds like it comes from another world. A similar thing happened when Richard Fearless @deathinvegasmusic played me Chris & Cosey for the first time as I lay on the floor, in another world. Chris Carter remains a unique figure in music and art in general, constantly creating and doing everything on his own terms. I kept most of the original sounds for the remix as they were so beautiful but extended them out and pushed the whole thing a little towards the strobe light. Play it loud. DA xxx

Delsin are pleased to gather together some of the highlights from the rich and varied catalogue of Manchester-based producer Claro Intelecto. From his earliest works on Ai Records through a prolific run on Modern Love to his more recent outings on Delsin, Mark Stewart has continually presented a vision of electronic music that uses the Detroit blueprint as a launch pad for his own distinctive strain of techno.

Claro Intelecto’s exploration of techno embodies everything the genre stands for. His rich catalogue of releases displays an affinity for the blueprint laid down by the Detroit forefathers, which he’s used as a launch pad for his own singular voice. It’s classic in style and yet totally unique, moving ably through austere club tracks, expressive eruptions of machine soul and crooked downtempo cuts all disseminated under a low-lying fog of melancholia.
As his relationship with Delsin continues to blossom, now feels like an appropriate time to take stock of his considerable contribution to modern techno. His first release, 2003’s Peace Of Mind EP, has become something of an “Albatross” for the Manchester-based artist, but not without good reason. The shimmering beauty of the lead track, “Peace Of Mind (Electrosoul)” remains a compelling entry point into his sound world, but it’s hardly a primer for the range of his sound.

The earliest Claro releases came on cult electronica label Ai Records, before he settled on noted Manchester imprint Modern Love. Much like Delsin, these labels reflected his own sound ethic – passionately stirred up by the vitally important groundwork of the techno pioneers but wholly disinterested in throwback material. Through stunning albums like Neurofibro and Metanarrative and more recently Reform Club and Exhilarator, the 12” series Warehouse Sessions and plenty of other EPs in between, the Claro sound journeyed from yearning prettiness to murky abstraction while retaining a firm rhythmic focus.

In Vitro provides a detailed overview of this musical path. The orchestrated elegance of “It’s Getting Late” and “Reformed” sits next to the low-slung, rainy-day blues of “You Not Me” and “Second Blood”. The gauzy clouds hanging over “Chadderton” and “Patience” contrast with the rabid snarl of malevolent electro on “Two Thousand”, “Episode” and “Tone”. Even in the compilation’s most delicate moments, “Beautiful Death” and “Still Here”, the strongest takeaway is that these uniquely crafted pieces are never acute genre studies. The most ambient lulls still sport a muted techno pulse, and when the intensity reaches a fierce peak, you can still detect shimmering, emotional flourishes. It’s exactly why Claro Intelecto’s work is so compelling, so deserving of reappraisal.
