At long last, hi-tek whizz-kid Metrist returns to Timedance with the third addition to the ‘Pollen’ series and brings his epic trilogy started in 2019 to a breath-catching end.

Elevating an already unique approach of sonic craftsmanship to whole new levels, the London based producer delivers some of his wildest and most dramatic compositions to date while pushing further his signature blend of 22nd century dancefloor pyrotechnics.

From the angelic vocal cascades of opener « Leven Lever Liver Love » to the heart-wrenching heights of « Bullet Time », a playful and intricate display of cross-pollinated emotions shines through this collection of boundary pushing tracks, giving them a life of their own while bringing a stormy cycle of auditory experiments into human nature to completion

As thunderstorms form, pollen grains often ascend into clouds, soaking up humidity to a point they inevitably burst out, liberating innumerable particles that tumultuous winds send back to ground-levels.

With a false sense of distance and safety, we sit back and watch the lightning strike in complete awe, unaware of pollen slowly descending from the skies, making its way through our lungs and deep into our bodies ; the storm may be over, but Pollen has now fully become a part of us.

Hot on the heels of nosync’s ‘Soundsystem Music’, Plasma Sources is proud to present Beton Brut’s ‘Project Researcher’, a 4-track offering of no nonsense, dancefloor-ready electronics which take influence from experimental club music, grime and musique concrète.

Having previously released standout EPs on CYTE Records, Beton Brut has built a reputation for delivering distinctively sparse and heavy-hitting productions which have garnered support from the likes of Mumdance, LCY and Walton. On ‘Project Researcher’, Beton Brut takes his sound and develops it even further. 

In the producer’s own words, the EP is “about materials - raw, straight and to the point”. This approach is evident from the opening track ‘Tom Machine’, as ASMR-inducing squelches are bottled inside an environment which bubbles with molecular detail, and pitted against clinically arranged percussion sequences. 

Up next, ’Lighter’ pulses with Beton Brut’s signature blend of grime-influenced bass-weight and snatches of pirate-radio MC chatter. ‘EMCA’ doubles down on this approach, with a more identifiable rhythm sure to keep heads bouncing at peak time. 

‘LSTS’ rounds things off with an approach to bass programming which feels like listening to a biological entity undergoing a process of evolution and regression. The palette feels viscous and shifting here, with abstracted percussion and gunshots populating this sparse environment. 

As an EP, ‘Project Researcher’ feels like the auditory equivalent of observing a chemical process inside a petri-dish. Beton Brut sets himself up as a scientist on this release, meticulously collecting individual samples from the deep corners of YouTube, introducing these into abstracted environments and observing the reaction.

Opening with precision-drilled drum patterns threaded through a maze of tension-charged frequencies, Nic As Well drags the audience in a Gqom-tinged dimension, ready to be blasted in a jam-packed yard in the townships of Alexandra. As the track unfolds, a maelstrom of stomping kicks collides with FX-warped screams, ending in a cyber aftershock that remains forever like a planetary memory.

Nic As Well - Tickler [Creaked]

“Softer hands” introduces a reality where art-electronics emerge from familiar club language. Sentimental melodies spray delicate feelings over metallic, hypnotising backgrounds. Distant, angelic choirs are softly moulded and shaped by whirring mechanical sounds, hisses and swooshes. Over time, the music leads inward, letting light through densely packed soundscapes. The result is touching, otherworldly, at times uncanny or post-apocalyptic, like an ensemble of machines learning to feel. The circle of three remixers perfectly understands the language cratje operates in, adding to the universe created within four original tracks.
