Breaking The Cycle by Carla Rubalcava

The Cook County Jail touches our city in deep and personal ways. Too often, stories of our psychological and emotion relationships with the jail go untold. In this activity, youth were asked to reflect on their thoughts and feelings about incarceration by either personifying the jail itself, or the abstract qualities they associate with it (punishment, judgment, justice, etc). The outcomes are complex and imaginative works that provide us with insights into how young people are processing the presence of the cook county jail in their community.
