Temporary Residing (2017, rev. 2021): This is a piece that explores a myriad of moments, and movements that bridge them. These movements are sometimes enacted through sudden ruptures and at others, subtle leakages and transitions. The piece invites listeners to move through various residences, temporarily inhabiting each space, while exploring diverse sound behaviors and listening situations. It is messy, it is plural, it is always situated.

Temporary Residing

g.e.n.e. is an audio-visual multi-disciplinary project headed by Gene.

Using self-built, as well as classical acoustic instruments together with voice, generated audio, field recordings, sampled audio-visual media and pre-produced pieces of music he creates performative narratives that can be loosely assigned to the genre “game-core”. The often puzzling and evocative compositions drenched with spiritual and socio-political themes, rely on poetic logic and often touch on the impermanence of cultural and historical identity or identity as such. The music’s methodical, non-linear sound organization—combined with groove and
rhythmic variation—casts a critical light on phenomena such as species extinction, the use of contemporary biotechnology and pharmacological intervention per se.
