Message from Toy Box:
"It’s been almost a year since my last multiple track release. I think my music has changed exponentially for the better in that time, and I’m proud of these tracks as I think they display a new vision for what Toy Box music will be in the future. Once you listen I’m sure you will notice that the tracks are considerably different from each other, however I hope you enjoy the certain signature sound that I believe I have been developing.  I initially wrote all the music on the mandolin and then transcribed it to all the different instruments.  The vocals are recordings of myself or others and I hope the melodies get stuck in your head. I tried to lean more towards the acoustic/real-life aspects of sounds, but obviously there is a significant amount of electronic elements involved. I mastered them all myself, but got some feedback from some producer friends.  These tracks were made on airplanes, bus rides, in my living room, the library, etc. I’ve been taking a lot of influence from Odesza, Bonobo, Emancipator, and Flume, but obviously wanting to make the EP as different and my own as possible. All in all, I just hope you really enjoy these sounds and share them with your friends!"

Toy Box is the alias of Carter Matthews, an up and coming musician and producer currently modulating in Denver, Colorado. Matthews has managed to stand out in a highly competitive music scene by blending soundscapes , pushing the boundaries of everyday genres, and meticulously blending the instrumental and digital. With his range of production abilities and the unique infusion of his mandolin, Toy Box gives himself a creative advantage over every other player in the game. A sonic alchemist, Murge weaves the eclectic and the electric to create dancefloor-centric beats that fill the space and lift the crowd. Inspired by travels through eastern Spain, Here We All Are is a cohesive collection of downtempo tracks, filled with fresh, earthy bass and neoteric instrumentals. Unorthodox sounds intertwine to create an expansive aural journey; one of connection and elevation. Pulling from across a variety of genres, Murge’s influences are wide ranging and free flowing; from the Cosmic era of disco to psychedelic jazz, from Latin rhythms fused with the elasticity and inclusiveness of world-inspired music to field recordings of ambient samples, captured during his own global travels.

'Here We All Are' was primarily produced at Murge’s studio The Cabin, with additional recording and mixing taking place at Burning Rainbow Studios in Victoria BC and The Warehouse in Vancouver BC, followed by mastering by Grammy nominated Shawn Hatfield at Audible Oddities. Influenced by the live instrumentals of Bonobo and Khruangbin, Murge has collaborated with some of BC’s most talented vocalists and multi-instrumentalists to create a full, world-inspired sound. First track ‘Reach Out’ is an uplifting dance floor groove reminiscent of sundowners at Cafe Del Mar; all languorous laid back beats peppered with inspiriting live flute. Lead single ‘Can’t Hurt Me Now’, featuring vocals by Sierra Lundy, is rich with moody dance floor energy and warm textures.

No stranger to packed dance floors or epic stages, Murge has entranced crowds at some of North America’s most well respected electronic festivals (Shambala, Bass Coast). A world class DJ and skilled producer, he has also shared stages with Bonobo, DJ Shadow, Flying Lotus, Hot Chip, Pete Rock, Kid Koala, De La Soul, Wu Tang Clan and Charles Bradley. With collaboration and creativity in mind, Murge has worked with Talib Kweli and Blackalicious, and has featured on remixes for Tegan & Sara, alongside Four Tet, Toro Y Moi and Holy F**k.

A longtime captain of the dance floor, Murge presents Here We All Are as a fresh offering of inspired global consciousness and transformative connectivity. 2020 is shaping up to be an expansive new chapter in Murge’s story.

The album "Awe" is a cinematic trip deep into a multi dimensional, melancholic but also oddly cheerful sonic world. Spoq shows with twelve new tracks a capability of in-depth emotional instrumental storytelling like few other electronic music artists. "Awe" is rather quiet and subtle textured instrumental music that plays with common Chill-Hop, Trip-Hop and Glitch elements only to break up with cliches and add unexpected drama. Both the playlist but also the organic tracks themselves charm the listener into a comfortable, familiar place, while layers of devastating sadness and outbursts of pure joy sneak up on tippy-toe around the corner. This also can be noticed in the choice of instruments. Rarely has the combination of sampled hip-hop and even indie drums, funky basslines, string instruments, horns and winds all at once with sharp synth glitches sounded so fresh and deceiving at the same time. Writer and producer Wolfram Gruss crafted this album carefully over the course of two years and took inspiration from - or rather processed - the intense emotional roller coaster that we all went through since the Pandemic started. "Awe" wants to be enjoyed. It does not need any kind of explanation and does not want to make a statement. Yet, the music undoubtly reflects on the melancholy of isolation, the depression about losses, the moments of hope and fear or the joys of temporal escapism and dreams.
