London-based electronic producer and Anjuna mainstay Vladimir Ershov, better known as PROFF, ventures into downtempo territory for the first time with his 11-track psychedelic chill-inspired LP, ‘Missing Places I’ve Never Been’, released on Anjunachill. 

Hailing from the outskirts of Moscow, Ershov was raised in a musically-rich environment by a classical musician father whom he describes as “one of the best Russian English horn and oboe players”. Nevertheless, Ershov spent his formative years enamoured by a different type of artistry, and a music scene that felt a million miles away. 

Before his breakthrough as an artist, Ershov spent several years teaching and producing for commercials and TV shows in his native Russia. Though often uncertain about his next move, his deep-rooted desire to create drove him forwards. 

In 2008, he stepped onto Anjuna as PROFF with 'My Personal Summer’, first featured on Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats Volume 6. He later released on Anjunadeep, and in the years that followed, he became a consistent presence across both labels, and his deep, organic productions earned him widespread appeal among the Anjuna fanbase.

The title of his debut downtempo album, ‘Missing Places I’ve Never Been’, stems from the curiosity and caution the contemplative Ershov has had since his teenage years. “Since I was 20 years old, I knew one day that I was going to write an album with this name - and it took me almost 17 years”, he says. The idea stayed with him for almost two decades, but it wasn’t until he had the right tools and set up that the project truly came to life.

“I’ve been building a modular synthesiser for almost seven years, carefully choosing what goes in and out, its interplay and capabilities,” Ershov explains. "I started experimenting and recording my jams once I felt confident enough. Every track on this album started as a modular jam.”

What started as a four-track EP evolved into a full journey of self-expression and discovery. Each of the 11 tracks is inspired by a different place, memory or feeling, with the LP itself evoking Vlad’s personal journey from his hometown to London. Each track tells a story, from opening track ‘Vlorë’, inspired by the Albanian location Ershov was enamoured with on his travels to Anjunadeep’s Explorations festival, to ‘Memory #3’, a one-of-a-kind modular jam recorded in a single take, and devoted to lost loved ones.

Moving away from the ‘rules’ of dance music, the album explores the slower tempos and atmospheric, textured soundscapes, influenced by ambient and psychedelic chill music. A different sound for PROFF perhaps, but just as considered and nuanced as his more uptempo productions.

On 13th December 2021, Above & Beyond were on top of the world. Or, as high as you can get with a whole bunch of electronic equipment that needs to be carried up 708 steps to a summit 656 feet above sea level. The two time Grammy nominated London-based trio were performing on the summit of the Rock of Guatapé at La Piedra del Peñol Guatapé in Colombia, in a performance for live streaming platform Cercle.

The opening track was ‘Morning In Deira’. Not only was the rippling piano instrumental – a near-six-minute quiet-is-the-new-loud anthem – a freshly written composition from a beloved band, it would also be the flagship song for a new (ad)venture under the Anjuna umbrella; the company founded by Above & Beyond in 2000 to release their music and home to two labels, Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep.

Five months on, ‘Morning In Deira’, backed by another new Above & Beyond song ‘Time Heals’, is the launch release of Reflections. The songs deftly set the tone for this new, third label from the Anjunafamily. 

Reflections will be the home to the South London-based organisation’s ambient, downtempo and alternative catalogue, a fresh imprint that represents the “chill” arm of a suite of labels that are as prolific as they are successful.

Songwriters first, producers second, Above & Beyond’s unwavering commitment to their craft has fuelled a career that many electronic artists today might only dream of: four acclaimed studio albums, 14 compilation albums, two ‘acoustic’ albums, a stand-alone album for yoga and meditation and an original motion picture film score - not to mention innumerable club cuts and dance remixes.

Bård Ericson is the Swedish producer and classically trained musician, boerd. Since joining the Anjuna label family back in 2018 with his mini LP ‘Static’ and follow up album 'Misplaced' on sister imprint Anjunadeep, boerd's penchant for stirring organic productions and songwriting has seen him supported by the likes of Sian Eleri on BBC Radio 1, Billboard and Clash Magazine and garnered over 25 million streams.

'Stay' is the third release on Above & Beyond's newly launched downtempo imprint Reflections and marks the second collaborative single between boerd and longtime friend, singer-songwriter Stella Explorer. 

An accomplished artist in her own right, Stella has won recent acclaim collaborating with fellow Swede DJ Seinfeld on his 2021 album 'Mirrors', on leading imprint Ninja Tune. A seasoned double bass player and regular member of the Royal Swedish Opera, Swedish Radio Symphony, and Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestras, boerd's classical roots and production prowess shine through in 'Stay'; the soaring string arrangements a perfect pairing to Stella's dream pop vocal.

‘Erased Dreams’ is the first full-length, low-tempo project from Yotto. The Helsinki-based artist is well-known for his thunderous DJ sets and deep, bass-heavy house productions, but with ‘Erased Dreams’, Yotto reveals another side to himself.

The 8-track ambient album, released on Anjunadeep’s new sister label Reflections, may seem like a departure from Yotto’s usual style, but he’s always made music like this. With Reflections, he finally found a home for it.

Throughout his sparkling career, which includes a Billboard #1 LP and official remixes for artists like Joris Voorn, Gorillaz, and Coldplay, Yotto has produced ambient tracks to help him look inward and recharge his creative battery. But when COVID hit, his inner world took over. “At first, I was being really productive with club music,” Yotto says, speaking from his home in Helsinki. “But then after a while, I started making something completely opposite.” Yotto found himself exploring a different form of expression, and didn’t have a plan other than to create. But when he put the tracks side-by-side in a playlist he recognized a synergy, and the outline of the project began to take shape.

The result is more of a continuous soundscape than an album; an ethereal and dreamy experience designed to accompany the listener as they turn inward and drift away. If club music is a form of escape, then this is too – but instead of turning outward, we lose ourselves inward.

The structure was inspired by The KLF’s 1990 album Chill Out – a concept album written as a sonic journal to document the band’s road trip across America. Yotto says ‘Erased Dreams’ is structured like a journal, too, and acts as a documentation of his inner workings and sentiments during the lockdown. So it makes sense that an over-arching theme is one of repetition and continuity.

Yotto found the experience of creating this album surprisingly liberating. He spent his whole career being defined by a certain sound, and with ‘Erased Dreams’ he’s revealing how much more there is to him as an artist – a sentiment that’s reflected in the album title. “This music usually gets deleted or erased or pushed to the side because I’m focusing on something clubby,” he says. “And it all sounds very dreamy and nostalgic.”

There’s a common string tying every track in ‘Erased Dreams’ together – the same one that ties Yotto’s ambient and club productions. There’s a crispness and simplicity to his style that makes all of his work instantly recognisable and undeniably Yotto.

Club music will always be at the core of Yotto’s work, but his ambient catalog will no longer sit in the shadows. Together, these parallel forms of expression don’t dilute Yotto’s artistry; they make it even stronger.

The first single is ‘Silhouette’. It’s a melancholy, atmospheric track with hints of ’80s nostalgia and smooth as glass vocals from Sansa. The track conjures up images of vast and endless landscapes; the sense of space enhanced by sparse chord-changes and field recordings of heavy rain. ‘Silhouette’ is so human it feels like an extension of an emotion, and Yotto says the idea came to him like a dream. A sound drifted towards him one day and he caught it by the tail and built on top of it until it became the entity he envisioned. ’It’s slow and steady and it grows. I think the beauty lies in the simplicity of it.”

Electronic music heavyweight Martin Roth will release his second full-length, piano-led album ‘Mono No Aware’ on Reflections this fall, the new sister label of Anjunadeep. Roth is well-known for his ability to glide between genres while maintaining a distinct, instantly-identifiable style, and his new release is no exception. With this 13-track album, Roth moves away from the club space and into his classical pianist background to explore themes of impermanence, fatherhood and simplicity.

The second single, “Sine Waves,” is a collaboration with British neo-classical pianist and producer Tom Ashbrook, made from a simple waveform or sine wave from a synthesizers’ percussion and organ pad. An accomplished composer and musician, Tom Ashbrook has shared the stage alongside music legends Paul McCartney, John Newman and Sting. Now the pair team up for their debut collaboration, presenting a textured, piano-laden electronica track that masterfully creates suspense, builds tension and ends in release.

Joining the Anjuna label family back in 2008 with a remix of Above & Beyond’s trance anthem ‘Miracle’ on Anjunabeats, Martin Roth has since provided numerous standout moments within the Anjunadeep back catalogue including ‘Have You Ever’, ‘Organic Brewed Hipster Funk’ and 2012 label classic ‘Beautiful Life’. During lockdown, while Anjunadeep launched their series of ambient VA compilations, Roth moved from club to piano-led music and the release of his first full-length downtempo album, ‘An Analog Guy In A Digital World’.

Roth says it’s no coincidence his two full-length albums are classical-leaning. His emotions pour out his hands and into the piano, and ‘Mono No Aware’ is an amalgamation of these stories and experiences. He began the writing process in mid-2021 while the world was still under COVID’s thumb, and says lockdown in Germany was the perfect backdrop to write an album steeped in melancholia. The nostalgia and impermanence even extends to the name – ‘Mono No Aware’ is a Japanese phrase which means awareness that everything fades away.

Electronic music heavyweight Martin Roth will release his second full-length, piano-led album ‘Mono No Aware’ on Reflections, the new sister label of Anjunadeep. Roth is well-known for his ability to glide between genres while maintaining a distinct, instantly-identifiable style, and his new release is no exception. With this 13-track album, Roth moves away from the club space and into his classical pianist background to explore themes of impermanence, fatherhood and simplicity.

Roth prefers to describe the album as minimalistic rather than ambient with each track stripped back to create space for one leading sound, instrument or melody. This results in an immersive listening experience, and instead of being pulled in multiple directions, we’re gently led to wherever Roth wants us to go.

This skill reflects the depth and breadth of Roth’s production experience. He learnt piano from a young age and bought his first synthesizer in his late teens. Around the same time he dived headfirst into Frankfurt’s underground, spending his weekends submerged in the sounds and selections of Sven Väth and Culture Beat’s Torsten Fenslau at institutions like Omen and Dorian Gray. When Roth began playing local clubs, Frankfurt’s melancholic influence impacted his music and has remained ever since, regardless which genre he’s turned his hand to.

‘Mono No Aware’ is the second album released on Reflections, and is a further exploration of Roth’s analog past. Martin released his first low-tempo LP ‘An Analog Guy In A Digital World’ in 2020 and says it’s no coincidence his two full-length albums are classical-leaning. Roth’s ambition for ‘Mono No Aware’ is that it touches the listener in the same way his first album did. “When I released An Analog Guy In A Digital World, suddenly I received messages from people all over the world,” Roth says. “They were long, heartfelt, heartbreaking messages, about how a certain track supported them through the hardest moments of their lives. The people who write these messages have no idea how much they are supporting me, so I hope the music on Mono No Aware touches people in the same way.”

Returning to the label, composer and producer Cephas Azariah presents his latest offering ‘Sleep Is Sacrament’, a delicate composition of twinkling pianos and soaring strings.

Since opening the prolific compilation series ‘Anjunadeep 14’ by Jody Wisternoff and James Grant in April,  Reflections welcomes the full release of ‘Sleep Is Sacrament’. 

A refined composer and producer, Cephas has worked in film and TV over the past five years, writing composition work for PUMA, Channel 4 and Soho House; and since making his debut on the label, he has amassed over 4,900,00 streams.

His music touches on motifs of healing and connection that are influenced by his personal experiences and bouts of insomnia, which have become significant themes in his music. Cephas describes the story behind his new composition:

"Sacrament is a thing of mysterious and sacred significance. For me, sleep is one of them - a daily ritual I suppose. This track is a sonic pilgrimage towards sleep guided by warm pianos, analog granules and frozen strings.“

Presenting the second instalment of our brand new various artist single series ‘Reflections Revisited’, British DJ and producer Dee Montero delivers a haunting rework of his 2018 Anjunadeep classic ‘In The Wild’ featuring singer-songwriter Meliha. 

Off the back of a breakthrough year in 2017, Dee Montero's 'Halcyon' was named Pete Tong’s #1 track of 2017 and topped the Beatport Deep House chart. He made his Anjunadeep debut with his double A-side single ‘In The Wild / Polaris’ - blending the soaring vocals of singer Meliha with an infectious piano line. The track has gone on to amass over 2.5 million streams and counting.

Returning to the Anjunafamily, Dee Montero releases his first single on Reflections with a dark, ambient restyle.

"‘In The Wild’ was inspired by those misty-eyed Ibiza sunsets during my residency at Mambo in 2017 where I played an eclectic mix of orchestral soundtracks and ambient tear-jerkers as the sun went down. 6 years on Meliha’s vocal has stood the test of time and still connects especially in our ever-expanding digital world. It was a pleasure to revisit the song and present this new blissed-out sentimental version, stripped back to its melodic essence."

Since first meeting, Brighton-based songwriter Elle Limebear and instrumentalist-producer Cephas Azariah quickly found common ground in their artistic passions, developing a friendship and going on to collaborate across various musical avenues. 

A storyteller at heart, Elle’s music combines her commanding yet ethereal vocals throughout her songs, telling tales to accompany people on their journey through life’s highs and lows, whilst inspiring them to look beyond their current challenges. With over 175 million streams and a Billboard #1, Elle’s music has taken her across the world, accompanied by Cephas Azariah as part of her touring band. Welcoming the fourth instalment of our new ‘Reflections Revisited’ single series, British production duo Dusky present an ethereal, piano-led rework of their 2013 release ‘Mr Man’, originally heard as the standout track on James Grant & Jody Wisternoff’s Anjunadeep 05. 

Asserting themselves as leaders of the UK underground, Dusky have amassed a variety of titles throughout their career, including global headliners, where they have graced the likes of Berlin’s Parorama Bar to London’s famous nightclub Fabric. Since their 2012 breakthrough track ‘Flo Jam’ which saw them signed to Dogmatik, the duo continued to push their sound forward, landing a string of releases on iconic labels such as Anjunadeep and Polydor. Their biggest track ‘Careless’ went down as a cult classic, cementing their place in the scene’s hall of fame. 

Within these formative years, Dusky built up a strong rapport within the Anjunadeep eco-system, releasing their debut album ‘Stick By This, plus a series of EPs and multiple features on Anjunadeep’s annual series, including their 2013 production ‘Mr Man’ on Anjunadeep 05. 

With over 3 million streams on the original, the classically trained duo delve into their more traditional roots, which we have seen glimpses of over the years in the form of stripped back renditions such as ‘Lost In You (Pianopella)’, to present a stunning, moving piano-led rework.

"We have fond memories of making the original version of Mr Man and playing it out in our DJ sets over the years. The track came about from an unlikely pairing between a deep house backing and a piano line inspired by Debussy’s Clair De Lune. 

We’ve been listening to a lot of ambient music recently, and writing a lot too, so with encouragement from the Reflections label team we decided to re-work Mr Man into something beatless. The piano riff came first in the original writing process, so we felt it made sense to take it and completely re-imagine a whole new piano-led piece of music around it."

After a seven-year hiatus, French electronic artist Croquet Club, AKA Jeremy Villecourt, releases his first full-length album 'Fugue in Twilight' on Anjunadeep's sister label Reflections.

The eight-track project is a departure from Jeremy’s previous, up-tempo releases. 'Fugue in Twilight' is slow-moving and reflective; created free of ego, comparison, chasing and striving. It’s a compelling and cinematic body of work that will cement Croquet Club’s reputation as a gifted, authentic and unique electronic music producer.

Jeremy started working on 'Fugue in Twilight' in early 2022. After so much time away from the Croquet Club project, he felt the pressure was off and expectations had dissipated. As he re-entered his studio and captured threads of ideas, he felt ready to return to the Croquet Club project for the right reasons; the ones he started with in the first place.

Jeremy treated his process delicately. Every day before he entered the studio, he meditated for close to an hour to turn inwards and reach a non-judgemental state of consciousness. This became a crucial part of the songwriting process.

He then channelled that energy into his creative process. “I’d get down to the studio, turn on the synthesiser or pick up the guitar, and start to play. And most of the time, I’d just play and nothing would happen. And sometimes something happened, and I’d record it.” He did this for about two months, saving threads of ideas, and reviewed everything all at once to see what had potential. “And then I made choices,” Jeremy says. “I deleted stuff, I kept some stuff, and when I had a batch of nice ideas, I worked an extra day on each one of them.”

This meticulous, self-assured and heartfelt process is what makes up the new album 'Fugue In Twilight'. The authenticity and purity seeps through every note, key and melody, pouring from one heart to another. The first single on the album is ‘Slowly’, about the human need for love, solace and intimacy. Jeremy layers his own vocals with hazy keys and nostalgic guitar, alongside lyrics about solitude and our relationship with ourselves.

Jeremy recorded the entire album as if it were live, playing every instrument himself without any loops. “It took a long time,” he says. “I had to write the music, write the lyrics, rehearse every instrument, record each part one by one, then mix it myself.”

Jeremy did it all himself for the experience. “It was like crossing the Atlantic Ocean on a rowing boat,” he says. “I could take the ferry, I could take the plane, but I chose to challenge myself and see how far I can go.”

Presenting the first of Reflections’ emerging-artist EP series for 2024, ‘Reflections 08’ reveals six brand new compositions and label debuts to the Anjunafamily. 

Opening the EP, Barcelona-based electronic producer Antic delves into his classical roots presenting a haunting piano-led composition ‘For The Lost’. Followed by label newcomer sue:ann, with her production ‘Gilderoy’ which fuses a deep chilled out baseline with melodic vocal samples. 

Next up, seasoned Anjunadeep producers Tagavaka and Maty Owl make their way across to the Reflections roster. With his dark, euphoric production ‘Walking Slowly’, Maty Owl presents a soundscape of textures, melancholic synths and a wandering piano motif. Glasweigan producer Tagavaka delivers an electronic production of euphoric synths and soaring strings on his track ‘Obsidian’.

Off the back of his latest EP ‘XY/YX’ on Reflections, Greek-producer Stelios Vassiloudis returns with an experimental piece ‘Amalia Play’, incorporating his signature flare of chopped samples and lofi percussion, inspired by his young neice Amalia.

Rounding off the project is multi-instrumentalist Stegonaute, another newcomer on Reflections, the French producer explores music with an analog edge on his uplifting production ‘Autumn Leaves’.

Maty Owl - Walking Slowly

In celebration of the global event that is Earth Day, all three Anjuna labels have each curated a planet-inspired mix, which will go live on Apple Music, YouTube and Soundcloud on Earth Day.
As well as inviting label fans to take a moment of pause and enjoy some music, these products are extra-special as artists and Anjuna will be donating royalties from these mixes to the Ocean Conservation Trust, in perpetuity. 

Reflections’ mix is naturally the most peaceful of the three, this ninety-minute mix features laid-back music from international artists including Cephas Azariah, Yotto, Ryan Davis and Jessie Marcella, intended to inspire contemplation.

Introducing ‘Anjunachill 01 (Mixed by Above & Beyond)’, the first release in a new compilation series from Anjunachill that captures the past, present, and future of the label’s chillout sound.

For over two decades, the annual Anjunabeats Volume and Anjunadeep mix compilations have become more than just various artist albums, they have become cherished traditions that have captured the sound of those imprints in any given moment in time. They have become sonic landmarks that define the heart and soul of our labels every year - bringing together an eclectic selection of artists and records that shape the very fabric of Anjuna.

Having mixed the first instalment of the Anjunadeep compilation series and every Anjunabeats Volume these past two decades, Above & Beyond now present the inaugural mix in this new series with ‘Anjunachill 01’. Curated and mixed by Above & Beyond, the ‘Anjunachill 01’ compilation opens with the group’s latest ambient track, ‘Shall We Begin,’ released in January 2025 to mark the relaunch of the label (formerly known as Reflections) and kick off the celebrations of 25 years of Anjuna. The mix also features music from beloved Anjuna artists such as Jody Wisternoff & James Grant, Dusky, Leaving Laurel, Yotto, and Croquet Club, alongside recent standout releases from Anjunachill like Cephas Azariah’s ‘Joy Paradox’ and an exclusive remix from prolific neoclassical composer Peter Sandberg of a track lifted from Mark Barrott’s recent LP ‘Everything Changes, Nothing Ends’.

In addition to celebrating its history, ‘Anjunachill 01’ also introduces unreleased music from artists who are new to the label. Highlights include tracks from Planet of Souls, the downtempo alias of producer Paul Rogers (known for his work with N.E.R.D., Gorillaz, and Pete Tong) and sound design expert Tom Barlow; new music from Anjunabeats favorite PROFF; Redkat (Riccardo Derio of Alex Sonata & The Rio); and Ad Harmonium, a South African composer duo consisting of one half of the electronic outfit Archaellum and felthabit.

Combined with timeless gems, ‘Anjunachill 01’ celebrates the label’s rich heritage in this genre while looking ahead to the next generation of artists shaping its future in 2025 and beyond.

Drawing on the label’s rich history of ambient, chillout and downtempo music, each artist will deliver a personal and unique mix of their all-time favourite Anjuna releases across all three labels. 

On 3 July, Croquet Club will deliver the second mix in the Anjunachill series.
