As a fan of both Paul Newman and Elmer Bernstein, this movie is on a couple of my short lists. Of course, Newman delivers his classic oddly-suave creepiness as usual. Hud reveals his true colors most whenever he attempts to hide them, which makes me almost feel sorry for the asshole. Bernstein's score compliments the mood and scenery of this movie impeccably.
I sampled the score and vocals on the microSAMPLER, loaded up 3 classic drum hits (1 kick, 2 snares every producer has somewhere) and recorded a loop of an egg shaker. The main beats are sequenced in one 8 bar loop and three 4 bar loops. The rest of the samples and the bassline were recorded as played live with the MS-1 into the MultiTrackDAW app (props to HarmonicDog) on an iPod touch.

Ben Bounce: "I think I first wanted to chop this up back in college. I've been a huge fan of the film for as long as I can remember. Bill Murray and Chevy Chase are absolutely genius. But I never really started to appreciate the music until I could get past the comedy. There was something about the opening sequence that always struck me..."

Ben Bounce: Caddyshack (Ode to Lacey Underalls)

The latest Beats On Film exclusive is RUSHMORE, remixed/sampled by Jonathan Toth. 

Toth - "This beat was inspired from the third time I watched the movie "Rushmore" by Wes Anderson. I've always loved good harpsichord, and during the interlude where Max is falling in love with his teacher, the musical breakdown was so precious, I had to play with it. At the time, I was experimenting with Jay Dee drums that I grabbed from various albums, so I applied percussion from "Raise it Up" (by Slum Village) to the keys and fell in love. As opposed to doing lots of chopping (to hide the sample, which I enjoy doing as well) I felt this was better to let play out as it was originally recorded (although I did slow it down). The sound byte at the beginning is another piece from the movie, because likewise, the harpsichord was too beautiful to pass up...plus I enjoy giving people hints as to where I find my samples. It makes me happy every time I hear it."
