At last, after a few directionless years, I'm finally back with new music! I participated in the remix competition for Stasys' song "Serenade," and this is what I came up with.

The intro was initially very different, going straight into a minimal drum rhythm, though I eventually realized it wouldn't work. When I searched the stems for alternative ideas, the background lead that plays during the original's "drop" immediately stood out to me, and it inspired the cinematic intro and progression you can hear now. Working with the melodic material from Serenade was an interesting challenge, since I don't typically write in this melodic style. The last third of the first drop is probably one of my favorite parts of this remix, as it features a bit of chromatic movement.

Most of my bass design is pretty simple, since I habitually only use init sine and saw waves for some reason... 🙃

In the second drop, I experimented with some 5/16 rhythms, which I'm surprised I haven't ever heard anywhere else before (at least to my knowledge lol). This is also probably the first time I've pulled off what I consider "proper" DnB, strongly utilizing 16th-note ticking percussion and even stabbing basses.

When writing the lyrics, I wanted to expand on Stasys' idea of these "pilgrims" discovering this new land, and possibly asking themselves why they traveled here. I intended to write a more substantial set of lyrics, but I unfortunately couldn't since the contest's deadline was becoming tighter and tighter. I actually finished this remix during a vacation quite far from my home state, and I took my Mac and even my microphone to finish recording the lyrics in my hotel rooms. I'm still surprised I managed to pull through with my remix and finish it despite my circumstances.

This song was originally started and nearly finished in 2020. I was very slow with preparing artwork, but thanks to my friend EvryFlare's help, we were able to create an artwork that I feel is quite representative of the song.

The song itself also needed a significant facelift, as the production was a little harsh and uncomfortable to listen to, due to my inexperience at the time. I reworked the production and mixing of this song, utilizing the new knowledge I've gained over the years.

This may or may not be my last release as BLOKBUSTR. However, fear not; I am beginning something new.

After 3 months of silence, here I am now. This is arguably not my best song, and it probably feels rushed for you, but it introduces a new style that I've adopted for my future music. I've been heading through a few rough moments, particularly on the miracle known as social media. Hopefully this song can communicate some of those feelings, as I intend to do with future songs too.

I bring you a very interesting, melodic, and atmospheric combination of mainstream Hop Hip and a little bit of the dark, dirty side of Dubstep! It was quite a balancing act with the two, no pun intended.

BLOKBUSTR - Serpentine (Cymatics "King of Beats" Contest)

This is my submission for the All-Nighter Vol. 4 contest, made in 9.5 hours. Even though I wasn't accepted into the official compilation, I'm glad I still participated!

I'll say, I was a tad bit stressed about this challenge as I was leaving school the day before. This is because I'm not a fast producer at all. I care more about quality than quantity, which too many producers are forcing as the norm. I'm still learning mixing right now, but I'll leave the quality of this song to you guys to decide. I hope you enjoy!

BLOKBUSTR - Solvent (All-Nighter Vol. 4)

It's finally here... My new remix contest entry for "Dazzle" by Machima!

Making this remix was pretty fun, but challenging for my music style at the same time. The original song is Melodic Dubstep, and melodic drops are a thing I can't quite do as a Deathstep producer. My idea for the drops were that you are caught in a sort of bad dream, and you try to wake up on your own, but you can't, until something else forces you out.

I also learned a few sound design techniques, as well as proper mastering, thanks to some helpful friends like @mvkuta and @blazterdubstep. As for my involvement in the contest... I never really entered just for the money prizes. I entered because of the challenge that it presented me, especially with remixing a subgenre that is typically incompatible with my style. I hope you enjoy this remix, and stay safe. :)
