Austin (by way of San Antonio) producer Nicodxmvs (@nicodxmvs) has been working on his solo album, Fall From Grace, for the last two years. In that time, he assisted with one of our instrumental compilations, he released two mixtapes in two weeks, he released an album of B-sides and rarities, and he released plenty of content with his hardcore band Illustrations. And oh yeah, he fully produced an album for Western Tink that we released back in January called Isolation. During all of this prolific outpouring of content, he was hard at work on Fall From Grace, an album that blends instrumental hip-hop with trip-hop with industrial with post-rock with everything in between. Guests come and go, but their voices sound like additional instrumentation to the cohesive composition.

"This piece was originally commissioned by Ben (aka @neonpajamas) in March '15, after hearing my production on 'Doomsday' by @websterx. The concept was to create a long thing with multiple rappers and singers coming in and out. Using some of the textures and rhythmic ideas on 'Doomsday' as a starting point, I made roughly half of the piece, but for one reason or another the vocal collaborations never came together (except for @yeahokblake, whose verse is coming separately).

Although collaboration has often been a big part of my own releases, producing for vocalists has been the exception rather than the rule. However, from early 2013 to early 2016 I was inspired by the opportunity to work with a handful of rappers, first milo and then WebsterX. The rest of the music here is made up of beats I originally made for them (personally I'm not motivated to make a beat for its own sake, there has to be a specific project, concept, or person in mind). 

This period dovetailed with my increasing fascination with faster tempos, physicality, and exploring how music can function in a club context. That's the direction I've followed since (documented on my past and future releases on Astral Plane Recordings). Though I'm not currently interested in revisiting the approach documented here, I'm glad to present this as a snapshot."
