Episode 1 - Yo You Hear Me?

We recorded this about a month ago and it was supposed to be Episode 5, but the #FreddieGray incident happened so we had to address that. On this episode, we get into a wide range of topics, starting with our experiences with racism throughout the week, the best way to listen to music from headphones to speakers to cassette, vinyl, or mp3, sound quality in music, the greatest hype men in Hip-Hop, granola bars, Starbucks, oral history in music, and ways that the South has kept traditional Hip-Hip alive. Episode 8 (Part 1) - Young Thug Is The New Prince

We made it to 10 weeks in. Still consistent. We get into our personal stories and adventures in Hip-Hop involving the likes of #Ghostface Killah, Killah Priest, Trife Da God, Jay Electronica, DJ Premier, Terminology, Lil Fame from M.O.P., Mos Def, and more. We then get into stories about treks to get albums pre-internet. Then we get into edited versions of songs.

From there we get into new additions to the lexicon of mainstream America courtesy of Hip-Hop like #THOT, #Bando, and #ratchet.

We then get into a host of topics including #gangsta lyrics being used at trials, jailhouse freestyles, and world music artists from genres such as #azonto, #dancehall, #reggae, #soca, and #afrobeat like #Chronixx, #Mavado, Vybz Kartel, Wizkid, Ice Prince, D'Banj, Sean Paul, and Bunji Garlin.

We end it off with skin bleaching and the light skin vs. dark skin wars. Needless to say this is a must listen!

Episode 10 Hip-Hop Moments, Jamaicy Music, & Skin Bleaching

On this episode we get deeper into  MMA. We talk about Bruce Lee's style of fighting and if he would be a formidable opponent in the Octagon. After that, we get into what is considered the first MMA match between Muhammad Ali and Antonio Inoki in 1976. And of course, Singod talks about his racist encounter of the week. Finally, we close out with our encounters with the homeless throughout Baltimore City. 

Episode 12: Why You Hangin' Out Wit That Hobo?

On Episode 13 we talk about our processes when it comes to creating projects, and the feeling of completing them. We then talk about the criticism Iggy Azalea is receiving and how more established artists get away with various blemishes in their careers. These established artists we primarily talk about are Eddie Murphy and Snoop Dogg and their interests in reggae. Finally, we conclude with "racial audio engineering" and focus on differences between bass in Top 40, Urban, and Reggae.

DJ Booman is a legendary DJ and producer from Baltimore. His credentials are too numerous to properly summarize. He is an originator of Baltimore Club Music, and even if you're not familiar with the genre, you've probably heard classic records he produced such "Watch Out For The Big Girl" and "Pick 'Em Up." He's also a mainstay on the Baltimore Hip-Hop scene, and his work with Baltimore rapper Mully Man ("Bmore Go Harder" & "She Hurtin' Em") landed a spot in MTV's rotation. 

On this historic episode of the Channel 10 Podcast, DJ Booman breaks down the origins of Baltimore Club Music and the early Baltimore Hip-Hop scene. From starting as a DJ selling out stadiums in Los Angeles with Uncle Jamm's Army, to producing some of the early Hip-Hop and Electro songs and selling millions of records through the first independent Hip-Hop label Egyptian Empire Records, to laying the blueprint for legendary acts such as Ice-T, NWA, and Uncle Luke's 2 Live Crew, his is is a name that should be mentioned more when it comes to the foundation of the Hip-Hop genre as we know it. Joker The Bailbondsman is a pioneer in Alaskan Hip-Hop. The Anchorage, AK native put his state on his back and has dropped many albums which are now considered coveted rarities and collectible items (on this episode he learns how much some of his projects are going for on eBay!). Through his work ethic, Joker made a name for himself nationally using every pre-internet resource available, which was difficult to do coming from a place that is rarely considered when it comes to having a vibrant Hip-Hop scene. 

Joker is best known for his videos which were featured on BET Uncut, his features with top rappers such as Bizzy Bone and Freeway, and his news-making street exploits which landed him in prison with a lengthy sentence. 

In this episode, Joker The Bailbondsman details his upbringing and how he got into music, life in Anchorage and Alaska as a whole, where his name came from, how he made everything happen, and how he used his time being incarcerated to better himself and come back stronger than ever. Mikel Miles is the creator of Samurai Shin, a dope new comic book series that is poised to make an impact in the comic book world. There isn't much representation of Black people or Hip-Hop culture in the anime world, but Miles blends the worlds by incorporating Afro-Asian characters into his comic, as well as offering a nice laid back Hip-Hop soundtrack for your listening pleasure while you read.  This episode is an interesting look into the creative process of someone creating something totally new from the ground up, and is definitely a must listen for anyone who is trying to do the same.

Mikel Miles - Samurai Shin Comic Creator & Writer

Joshua Harris was the Green Party candidate for mayor of Baltimore City in 2016, securing a remarkable 10%-13% of the vote, but don't confuse him for a politician. He is an activist who works in the community on issues of civic engagement, educating people on where to get needed information about what is happening in the communities they live in, and also training citizens on grassroots organization. He is also a proponent of the arts and how they can help to build strong communities, and his non-profit, Hollins Creative Placemaking, does just that.

We speak with Josh about his upbrining and move to Baltimore, how he was able to make it, his motivations and how he got into politics, and what's next for him post election. We are honored that Josh took the time to speak with us, and this episode is a must listen.

60 East is an Indie Hip-Hop artist from Ontario, California with an inspirational story. This Inland Empire emcee has gone through dark periods like many artists. However, 60 had what it takes to make it through the “grey area” and achieve his dreams of making an impact on the stage as well as business panels.

Kuro Silence is a rapper/producer from Baltimore, Maryland. From trap to experimental, Kuro’s work defies normative currents of Hip-Hop’s soundscape with his work ethic and forays into Hip-Hop’s many sub-genres.

P.SOUL is a poet/producer from Minneapolis, Minnesota. P.SOUL has made a name for himself in the YouTube producer community, while building a devoted audience for his livestreamed beat sessions on Periscope. 

Much of this episode revolves around production. We get into Kuro’s and P.SOUL’s production techniques and the kind of equipment and software they are using. Working on the first Samurai Shin project. And after that, we talk a bit about how Baltimore and Minneapolis, respectively, have influenced their artistry. And MUCH More.

King Shampz is an emcee from West Philly. Along with his brother, and producer, Azzan, Shampz founded Dead Wrong Records. The label is filled with other talented artists who share a similar aesthetic with Shampz--a gritty sample-based sound with extensive wordplay and reflective braggadocio lyrics. 

We spoke to King Shampz over a year ago about many topics including: his music relationship with his brother, Azzan, visiting Mecca and Egypt during his formative years (and eating camel burgers), how African Americans are perceived in Egypt, Philly’s hip-hop legacy, and much more!
