ELATE is the debut full-length offering of the project and is a unique blend of traditional Bulgarian folklore and contemporary electronic music, which is also generously sprinkled with influences ranging from contemporary jazz, to world music and neoclassical thanks to the plethora of world-class guest musicians, who were also involved in the album. The artwork of ELATE is based on an oil piece by Bulgarian graffiti pioneer Nasimo.

In ELATE the talented trio is not alone in their journey. In an attempt to expand their musical landscape, by embracing an even wider variety of world music languages, they have invited world-renowned collaborators among which Theodosii Spasov (kaval), Dimitar Bodurov (piano), Akira Uschida (clavichord, saxophone), Maxim Anokhin (programming), Burak Malcok (ney), Ace Vaptsarov (guitar, strings arrangement), Mariya Dimitrova (back vocals), Neyko Bodurov (trumpet), Tayfun Ateş (percussion) and Güldeste Mamaç (violin). Their contributions allowed TRIGAIDA to add even more nuances to their already innovative and exciting musical palette.

TRIGAIDA commissioned the artwork of ELATE to world-acclaimed Bulgarian graffiti artist Nasimo. Active since the early 90s and considered one of the most important graffiti and fine art muralists on the Balkans, Nasimo is a regular collaborator of Ivan Shopov. In his current work, the artist is equally focused on muralism and studio painting, further developing his signature style and vision.

TRIGAIDA - ELATE

“Dhumavati” is a collaborative full-length album between Turkish-Polish duo Mahlukat and Bulgarian producer Ivan Shopov. It appears in a world that tries to alienate and separate us from each with each passing day only to prove that it is through art that we can endure and resist whatever reality throws at us. In this shared world, which three musicians from three different corners of the world have managed to create there are no borders, no prejudices, no musical barriers. “Dhumavati” was created and recorded in 10 days and it perfectly conveys its impulsive, intuitive and sincere origin. However, thanks to its outstanding production, courtesy of Ivan Shopov’s meticulous attention to sound crafting, the album has become not only a documentation of a beautiful and shared experience between him and Mahlukat but into a captivating, next-level musical experience, which will remain in your mind long after the last notes in the record have faded out. We’ve already established that singer and violinist Güldeste Mamaç, percussionist Kasia Kadłubowska, and electronic producer Ivan Shopov are no strangers to collaboration, so it comes as no surprise that “Dhumavati” welcomes contributions from an array of guest musicians, among which Julian Maier-Hauff (trumpet), Theodosii Spassov (kaval), Evan Hatfield (sitar), Amalgamy (gaida, kaval, gadulka), Peter Hinz (vocals and tabla) and Laila Mahmoud (kanun). They additionally expand the record's musical palette and widen its already vast field of influences and musical nuances. Together they expand the record's musical palette and widen its already vast field of influences, thus allowing the already blurry boundaries between downtempo, world music, folktronica, and cinematic atmospheric music to fully disappear.

Time is a weird little thing. It can breathe life into our banal existence, but it can also crush us. Time unites and separates people. It’s often our only sole guide in history and a reference for social, cultural and political evolution. Our struggle to be constantly racing with it, is often the reason why we tend to feel detached from all that once shaped us. 

With “Kanatitsa” Ivan Shopov and Avigeya have created a bridge to the realm of Bulgarian folklore which is often forgotten and taken for granted, while the rest of the world finds it fascinating. Having embraced our folklore as their own creative pulse, they have shaped the album not as a showcase about how traditional music can co-exist with contemporary electronics, but as a homogeneous and organic body of work, where the boundaries of music and time don't exist. 

The album sees Ivan Shopov and Avigeya exploring a vast variety of genres. From the carefully structured ambient waves of the self-titled piece, to the deep chill out vibes in “Sluntse” – it's all a rollercoaster of music, which peaks not in the drum'n'bass or dubstep rooted tracks, but overall in its power and sincerity.

Theodosii Spassov & Ivan Shopov - InFusion

One of the toughest tasks which artists of today are facing is making listeners go back and revisit an album you released even just a while ago. Rarely do people replay and dig deeper within the realms of a certain record as much as they did in pre-internet times. No one is to blame as there’s just so much music to be experienced and only so little time. With “Kanatitsa”, their first collaborative album, Bulgaria’s favorite electronic multitasker Ivan Shopov and traditional folklore singers Avigeya showed they are pretty good at pouring new energy into their work. The full-length was originally released on a CD, which sold in epic numbers. Then it was revived on audiphile vinyl and was of course backed by numerous live performances reaching as far as the USA. We were constantly reminded of the record and listeners never stopped caring about it even though whole two years passed since “Kanatitsa” was first shown to the world. 

With “Kanatitsa Remixed” Shopov is taking the record to a whole new level by inviting 41 artists from all over the world to remix it. This results in an extensive amount of music, which shows “Kanatitsa” from tens of new angles but was still born and raised in the same soil where the original was planted, grew and blossomed. Almost every track from the album was remixed multiple times...

The first single, album opener Sluntseto Trepti, will be released alongside a remix by Carmen Rizzo, a two-time Grammy Nominee electronic world music producer who has worked with artists from Coldplay to Ryuichi Sakamoto and Paul Oakenfold among others. The artwork for the single was created by Ivan Shopov.

TRIGAIDA’s Ivan Shopov is one of the artists who reinvented the European drum and bass in the early 2000s but his talents have shone in numerous genre-bending releases, which have continually showcased his passion for establishing a dialogue between Bulgaria’s musical roots and the current reincarnations of popular electronic music. His partners Georgi Marinov (Bulgarian bagpipe and didgeridoo) and Asya Pincheva (vocals) are also highly-regarded for their work with the Bulgarian world music supergroup ORATNITZA, a formation which has been exploring the translation of folklore music through the means of modern club music.

One of the toughest tasks which artists of today are facing is making listeners go back and revisit an album you released even just a while ago. Rarely do people replay and dig deeper within the realms of a certain record as much as they did in pre-internet times. No one is to blame as there’s just so much music to be experienced and only so little time. With “Kanatitsa”, their first collaborative album, Bulgaria’s favorite electronic multitasker Ivan Shopov and traditional folklore singers Avigeya showed they are pretty good at pouring new energy into their work. The full-length was originally released on a CD, which sold in epic numbers. Then it was revived on audiphile vinyl and was of course backed by numerous live performances reaching as far as the USA. We were constantly reminded of the record and listeners never stopped caring about it even though whole two years passed since “Kanatitsa” was first shown to the world. 

With “Kanatitsa Remixed” Shopov is taking the record to a whole new level by inviting 41 artists from all over the world to remix it. This results in an extensive amount of music, which shows “Kanatitsa” from tens of new angles but was still born and raised in the same soil where the original was planted, grew and blossomed. Almost every track from the album was remixed multiple times with the new versions ranging from drum and bass, trip-hop, hip-hop, IDM, ambient, trance and to techno. Namedropping and highlighting pieces in this carefully curated selection of artists is pointless but you are now able to create your own tracklist, depending on your music preferences but without moving too far from the original or disrespecting the impressive musicianship that was shown in “Kanatitsa” on the first place. What else should we say? Enjoy the flight maybe.

TRIGAIDA is the latest musical phenomena to have come out of the small but colorful contemporary electronic scene of Eastern Europe’s Bulgaria. The folktronica trio is formed by multi-instrumentalist Georgi Marinov (Horhe), folklore singer Asya Pincheva, and multifaceted electronic producer Ivan Shopov.

The first single from their debut album "ELATE" is the album opener Sluntseto Trepti. It is now released alongside a remix by Carmen Rizzo, a two-time Grammy Nominee electronic world music producer who has worked with artists from Coldplay to Ryuichi Sakamoto and Paul Oakenfold among others.

TRIGAIDA - SLUNTSETO TREPTI

Ivan Shopov is an artist with many faces, he’s а painter, musician, producer, composer, aesthete and an innovator.
Graduated an MA in print making from The National Academy of Arts in Sofia, he’s the author of numerous ink and acrylic pieces. He’s often drawing and designing artworks and posters for his own projects and for those of popular artists in the electronic scene. So far he’s done eight solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad.

Ivan Shopov has been involved in over 250 musical releases, among which we find both solo and collaborative albums. This has established him as one of the leading figures in the European electronic underground. His various projects span over genres like drum and bass, IDM, jazz, ambient, techno, rock and classical music. Ivan Shopov has released over 120 vinyls for some of the biggest international labels. A part of his own production and the works of artists who he believes in can be found released via his two labels Etheraudio Records and ABCD.

Ivan is working as a composer scoring contemporary dance and theatre productions. He’s contributed music and sound design to various video and short film project, interactive art installations. Since 2012 he’s written the music for 15 dance pieces by Derida Dance. In 2017 one of them is awarded the prestigious “IKAR” award. Shopov has been publishing soundpacks which are often found in the production of fellow electronic artists.

What really separates Ivan Shopov from the other artists in his field is the way he’s mixing traditional Bulgarian folklore with electronic music and jazz. This way he’s building a bridge between his country’s musical history and the current tastes of his audience. Among his most popular releases in this direction are “Kanatitsa” with Avigeya, “InFusion” with Theodosii Spassov, “Kuker” and “Orenda” with Бalkansky.

Ivan Shopov is keen on sharing his knowledge and has been a demanded lecturer and teacher. Besides regularly doing workshops and online courses, since 2016 he’s been lecturing Analog and digital sound design at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia. With 20+ years of experience he’s also regularly working as a mixing and mastering engineer.

The European stages who’ve experienced Ivan’s music are numerous. During his international tours he’s reached USA, South America, Russia, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
