CoOp Presents proceed to give you what you need! Following on from the 'Plug One' series, a whole slew of releases are scheduled for the second half of the year, as we enter the next phase of the CoOp Presents universe. First up, the Selectors Assemble crew with a mammoth remix project reinterpreting tracks from LCSM's subliminal album 'Earthbound'. Originally released last year on Dutch label, Super Sonic Jazz, 'Earthbound' was a highly-acclaimed project from a band headed by CoOp Presents label-boss IG Culture, featuring a heavyweight band comprised of some of London's most talented players, including members of Steam Down, Wonky Logic, Nathaniel Cross and IG's label partner, Alex Phountzi, amongst others. LCSM (aka Likwid Continual Space Motion) is an exploration into afro-futurism, inspired by the likes of Sun Ra, but forming a sound entirely unique with a hybrid of bruk, boogie, funk and jazz. The album received rave reviews from the likes of Gilles Peterson, XLR8R and Beat Caffeine, with the vinyl quickly selling out globally, and featuring highly in numerous end of year lists, from Sound Shelter (Sydney), to Bandcamp to The Vinyl Factory, as well as a nomination for "Track of the Year" at the Worldwide Awards and named "Album of the Year" by Rush Hour! So to this new EP released on IG Culture & Alex Phountzi's own imprint. As you'd expect, the Selectors Assemble gang deliver the goods; firing on all cylinders across this 6-track bruk opus. Cengiz kicks off the session with his flip on 'Frequency' ahead of James Rudie's stark sub-heavy version of 'The Box'. There are two mixes of 'More Brilliant Centre', the first from Entek, the second from CoOp Presents co-founder Alex Phountzi. The hyper-tempo'ed 'World Order Is Chaos' sees IG & Alex team up again under their NameBrandSound moniker, and we close out with Xtra Brux's take on 'Let Me' (which originally featured Natalie May & Neue Grafik); keeping it soulful and jazzy but adding drums that knock, as they do throughout the EP, staying true to the cosmic-jazz source material, but re-shaping it exceptionally for the bruk dancefloors. Following on from the recent LCSM remix EP, CoOp Presents continue with more certified bruk heat for 2021 - this one seeing the return of EVM128 and an all-new EP entitled ‘Dance Don’t Sleep’. Some sound advice.

A core-member of the Selectors Assemble crew, EVM128 is also co-label boss of the Dance Regular imprint and has had releases in the past on labels such as BBE, Studio Rockers, Local Talk, Rhythm Section, Wah Wah 45s and Tru Thoughts, amongst others.

As well as being nice behind the boards, he's an amazing Selector, playing regularly on the crew's Worldwide FM show, as well as Netil Radio monthly and past plays for Boiler Room and Dimensions Festival, with his eclectic blends of bruk, soul, jazz, house, garage, hip hop, ragga, afrobeat, UK funky and bass music.

EVM previously featured on the Selectors Assemble EPs - the track ‘Gamma Riddim’ in particular is still being rinsed in dances a few years later. His last release 'Bun Dat' appeared on the label's first compilation, ‘Plug One’, released late in 2020 and kicked off the year with a set of remixes of the same track.

‘Dance Don’t Sleep’ begins with the title track, setting off with Detroit-esque pads and JA clash samples, before a moderate-paced brukbeat kicks in accompanied by some squelchy synths and some sneaky breaks. Next is ‘Tell Me’ featuring the sweet soulful talents of Natalie May atop a percussive groove, gliding keys and bleeps. ‘UK Brukers’ follows (a play on UK Rockers), and it’s more bruk-step laced with ragga samples and a deep sub riding throughout, then into ‘Jazz Drumz’, which provides what it says on the tin - shuffling kits ride alongside piano and rhodes, all with EVM’s unique flavour. We close out with ‘Desert Island Bruk’; an off-kilter riddim with a slight UK Funky feel, completing a very dope 5-tracks that should ensure that you’re dancing, not sleeping.

As with the previous CoOp Presents release, this digital EP is again accompanied by some mind-blowing artwork by Mo Fingaz & Bee Graphics for Blood, presenting another genius part of the new CoOp universe.

With monthly releases stacked up for the rest of 2021, expect plenty more goodness to come from the CoOp Presents label imminently. Watch we work.

First up, NameBrandSound & Nuff Pedals join forces for ‘Pedal & Wheel’ - a heavyweight
collaboration that bridges the London and Bristol bruk scenes.

NameBrandSound is the brainchild of CoOp Presents label heads Alex Phountzi & IG Culture;
two pioneers of the bruk movement who’ve been shaping the sound for decades under various
aliases. With a deep legacy in the scene, the duo also hold down a must-listen weekly show on
Rinse FM.

Nuff Pedals (aka Will Knighton), also known for his work as Dismantle, brings his signature touch
to the mix. Hailing from Bristol, he’s worked with D&B heavyweights DJ Die and Watch The Ride,
earning support from tastemakers like Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Madam X, Lefto, and Martyn.
This 125-BPM bubbler has been a CoOp Presents DJ set essential, laced with a sublime bassline
and emotive synths that make it an instant standout.

Brand new year, brand new imprint. CoOp Presents is an all-new record label, founded by IG Culture and Alex Phountzi, set to focus on the depth and wealth of talent that exists within the London Bruk movement and beyond, a project which they consider to be a continuation in the same spirit of the legendary CoOp movement.

Last Summer, the CoOp Presents crew released an EP via First Word Records entitled ‘Selectors Assemble’. This was the first collective offering from a foundation comprised of UK dance music pioneers and nowadays bruk soldiers, navigating in & around the world of broken beat and beyond over the last two decades to the present day. Reinvigorated by recent Boiler Room sessions, the crew proceeded with more parties, more radio shows, and gained access to an unlimited pool of all-new sounds. The squad were primed and ready to move forwards from the famed days of the Plastic People dances, and further explore the evolution of their sound.

Selectors Assemble exists as an umbrella to showcase talent from originators and newcomers alike, transcending genres and geographics. Over the summer, more members were introduced to the clique, and it was clear there was much more work to be done. So we proceed. 
Setting it off, we bring you ‘Selectors Assemble Volume Two’.
The first six-track selection from the stable for 2018. 

James Rudie opens the selection with ‘Port Funk’, a soulful 4/4 stomper, adrift with jazz licks and weighty bassline. Danvers up next with ‘My Nina’, a deep vibesy breakbeat opener that chops away, flipping its groove several times through the track. EVM128 steps up & steps in with the no-messin’ tough tribal bounce of the ‘Gamma Riddim’ next. Cengiz opens up the flipside of the plate with some straight up bruk-funk that rides ‘On On On’. Entekenters the dance with a twisted swagger and next level sonics on ‘Robbery’, ticking numerous groove boxes, before we approach the final cut from N15’s own Miraa May, on the soulful flex of
‘I Don’t Want Ya (Didi)’. The rub on this last one coming courtesy of label founders, NameBrandSound aka IG Culture and Alex Phountzi.

Selectors Assemble appear on rotation monthly on Worldwide FM, as well as numerous other shows and dances individually, including upcoming parties at The Jazz Cafe, and the formation of a new base, The Flex Space, a multi purpose warehouse space in East London. The movement is only destined to grow. The stage for 2018 is set. Get involved.
