Adelaide based Emily Glass, a long-time friend of DECISIONS, establishes the mood with ‘Scribble Machine’, a carnivalesque assemblage of bells and mechanised percussion (Emily also contributed to the compilation’s artwork). Shanghai’s Laughing Ears follows with ’Among The Ashes’, a deftly meted downtempo excursion in her inimitable crepuscular style, giving way to the unhinged polyrhythmic wiggle of Air Max ’97’s ‘Triple Pendulum’. Amsterdam based newcomer Bby Eco pops the lid off an off-world bee hive on ‘Innerlife’, whipping buzzy samples into an urgent lurch. Yre Den returns to DECISIONS with the compilation’s most effervescent number, squishing together bird song, humanoid vocals and synth tones gleaned from an uncanny valley on ‘Bird Spiral’. Bristol’s Ido Plumes picks up the exuberance Yre Den puts down on the epic ‘Walking With The Tasman Abel’, building a uniquely frenetic groove at 171bpm (fun fact: neither Air Max ’97 nor Ido Plumes know how his track was submitted — it simply materialised as the project took shape — quantum entanglement?). On ‘Aurora Torus’ Isomov (somehow) effortlessly meshes a shoe-gazy vocal line with an impossibly plucked harp and what sounds like a melodica over a Y2K Neuro DNB rhythm. Milan based label alumn Oroboro cleaves the compilation in two with ‘Absolute Schism’, a brutal EDM abstraction of charred synthesis and chunky percussion. Sydney’s Hence Therefore contemplates historical agency with the rudely swung screamer ’Path Dependents’, fresh off an outing on BBC Radio 1 in Object Blue’s Essential Mix. Melbourne based maestro CORIN, another long-time friend of the label, shares a lushly textured slice of broken EBM in ’Stealth’, followed by the rolling peak-time paranoia of Atro’s ‘Hafta’ — one of the compilation’s most forthright club weapons. DJ Plead’s ‘STP’ is a hot scoop, gracing Consequences with its fragrantly seasoned percussive presence after countless appearances in your favourite DJs’ setlists. Berlin based newcomer COLLO further elevates the room temperature with the driving polyrhythms and entrancing synths of ‘Bantu Nilote’; the track title nodding to his combined Bantu and Nilotic family background. A blunted SCAM instrumental supports Sevy’s vividly detailed flows on ‘Neighbour Mr Tumnus’, revisiting the fruitful collaborative relationship we first encountered on the ‘Vibrio’ EP. Frankfurt based artist Avbvrn (whose debut full-length album just came out on PH17) closes the compilation with ‘Foment (Recursive)’, in which deep and reflective ambience is scoured by a grinding beat echoing some of his 90s hip hop influences.

Consequences finds kindred spirits in artists unapologetically journeying their own spirals, resulting in a lively multitude of rhythm, sound design and song shapes defying genre and tempo. The compilation seeks to round off a difficult and disruptive year on a generative, community-oriented note.

Air Max ‘97 returns to DECISIONS after two outings on Timedance with three new dance floor trips. EP opener Coriolis is a deviant drum and bass abstraction, flooded with pointillistic percussion, impish structural shifts and heady barometric upwellings. Mouthfeel offers a looser, mildly boggling polyrhythmic groove anchored around a chonky bass drum. Collapsing Void all but disappears into the trench, a crepuscular study in stop-start neck-snap bounce and icky sonics. Brief but dankly distilled, Coriolis is a potent product of Air Max ‘97’s well established, relentlessly volatile laboratory of rhythm and sound design.

A Decadent Overture: "A Loppy Lesson" Emerges to Evoke the Unspeakable

Prepare to plunge into the abyss of the senses as DECISIONS ushers forth "A Loppy Lesson," an unfettered odyssey born from the twisted genius of Loppy B. A seductive successor to the duo’s initial Lament, this auditory indulgence blooms forth as the sinister full-length offspring of their musings, beckoning connoisseurs of the unconventional to teeter on the precipice of the forbidden and drink deep from the chalice of crooked club gear.

From the arcane crucible of Soft Centre 2022, where Loppy B did take stage to craft a musical tale of sublime enchantment, the wretched seeds of "A Loppy Lesson" were sown. Each track emerges from the obsidian mists of this encounter—a transcendent rite that blurred the lines between reality and debauched fantasy.

“The dank, the foetid, the animistic”—Loppy B's artistic ethos unfurls like a fragile secret. Forsaking the anemic gloss of festival anthems, they bask instead in the squalid muck and primordial thrum deep in the bowels of the dance. Here, sonic sprites are born from overdriven sub frequencies that cavort with tricksterish volition, instigating an aural pandemonium that sluices through the listener's very soul.

But ah, the titular "Loppy Lesson," a revelation bestowed upon the duo during a dancefloor reverie at the cusp of dawn. A truth unveiled—a visceral testament to the paradoxical beauty that emerges from the putrid and the sublime, the repulsive and the resplendent—a revelation that courses through the album's fair eddies and foul gyres.

And what visual feast accompanies this decadent audial offering? The veil between the tangible and the ephemeral shivers, as photographic fragments of digital conception entwine with the elegance of hand-cut lino prints. An ocular riddle forged by Loppy B’s very own hands, a mirror reflecting the album's descent into oneiric depths.

Jikuroux - Teardrop [Excerpt from Erotic Gestures of Sound]

DJ Plead delivers a unique set of deep and frenetic dance floor tools for his DECISIONS debut. Sumptuous percussion drawn from Plead’s Lebanese background is masterfully arranged to propel the listener into deeply mesmeric rhythmic zones. Equally hypnotic are the vocal and synth loops gleefully entwined throughout the EP, with vibes ranging from slinkily tense (DVE; Get In Circle) to exuberant (Giz) to downright dubby (Lee’s Shuffle). The EP title simultaneously references dancing circles at Lebanese weddings and the anthemic samples of footwork producers such as DJ Roc. Get In Circle is the first EP length release from Melbourne’s DJ Plead, who has been hiding in plain sight as one third of BV and half of Poison. Play loud; get in circle.

Rugged and lustrous, Nacre is Air Max ‘97’s first full-length release. Written between Melbourne and Berlin and mixed in Mexico City, the album bears traces of fleeting yet profound geographic and emotional immersions. Air Max ‘97’s signature baroque momentum is suffused anew with pungent and labile tonal atmospheres, through which organic sonic events and incomprehensibly abstracted vocals wreathe. The record’s disposition spans the darkly playful arpeggios of Veneer to the dirge-like Kermes and paranoiac Karyon. Fiendishly twisting tracks are interspersed with more tender moments such as Queriensteiger, Nacre and Gousse (formerly released on Stoscha’s 2017 Klink compilation). The totality is uncompromising and affective, yielding a broader spectrum of Air Max ‘97 sonics than ever before.

Nacre will be released on 12” vinyl and digital on 1 June 2018.

'Vibrio', the debut release from Sydney producer SCAM (@scamscamscam), offers four love songs written for bacteria and molecules. Examining geosmin, luciferase, slime mold, mushrooms, THC, morphine and other companions, the EP zooms in on human encounters with our microscopic kin on Earth to explore the emotional terrain of inter-species and inter-chemical intimacies.
Sonically, 'Vibrio' injects OTT emotionality and TMI sentimentality into robust and playful rhythms. On EP opener 'Host' a floaty late-noughties R’n’B lead winds around a TED Talk snippet declaring our collective status as microbial hosts. 'Crumb', made with producer and vocalist @Seayams, contrasts the symbiotic beauty of bioluminescence with the biopolitical strategies of anti-injection blue light. Another Seayams collaboration - 'Tetra Crush' - narrativises the search for water and longing for rain so fundamental to our species as assisted by our long-term crush, geosmin (the bacteria that contributes to petrichor: the smell of rain). 'QQ' closes with bouncy drums over looping samples from Coil’s '5-Methoxy-N, N-Dimethyl- (5-MeO- DMT)' and 'Physarum Sonification', a recording of the bio-electrical activity of slime molds by Interspecifics — essentially an invitation for slime molds to come out on Friday.
A rose-tinted trip through oft-overlooked intimacies between us and our non-human collaborators in Life, 'Vibrio' suggests that these entanglements are every bit as flirtatious, devotional and co-dependent as our human relationships.

The EP was written and recorded on Darug and Gadigal land where sovereignty was never ceded. 'Vibrio' drops on Friday 12 October 2018

DECISIONS is pleased to finally unleash ‘In Theory’ by NYC-based polymath @isomov, whose bio follows, in their own words:

“Isomov began as a project to explore the perspective of the ‘Automatic Computer’ from Asimov’s ‘The Last Question’ — the omniscient entity. At the time I was studying a lot of quantum information theory and was probably the most depressed I’ve ever been in my life; I dreamt of escaping my finite reality into the unending world of information. After graduating from University with a degree in mathematics, I’ve spent five years working as an art-world freelancer in Brooklyn. I work almost exclusively on the computer: rendering, arduinos, websites; I even tutor through webchat. On the one hand, my informatic intimacy has kept me largely alienated from physical reality, trapped in obtuse theory. On the other hand it has helped me to slowly reify as a non-binary cyborg goddess, a devout humanist obsessed with the practical affect of aesthetics. 
For me, the internet has been a tool for gaining empathy through its ability to host and distribute diverse perspectives. The more my body has dissolved into the virtual, the more I have been able to resimulate the emotional experiences of others. I am now interested in how we move beyond a theory of utopia to the project of a protopia, always working to make tomorrow a little better. I’ve looked towards quantum information theory to help to understand and reconcile the seemingly infinite spectrum of realities we call our universe. This is the new vision of Isomov.”

‘In Theory’ sets divergent impulses in motion, animating superheated exchanges between order and entropy, flesh and code. ‘Origin, Emergence, and The One’ is a false utopia where differing cultures come together in restless harmony despite their aesthetic differences: frictious dancehall percussion and grandiose choral washes parry and twine, constantly threatening to subsume the other. ‘Hoping Mechanisms’ takes place at the critical point of identification, when the named object of perfection becomes a radical dystopia of conflicting binaries. Rarely have we heard kicks so exuberantly scattered or bass so charred — Uncanny Valley rendered as a scorched, inhospitable territory. ‘Ensemble’ shows the reality of a cyborg beyond binaries, the coexistence of a fictional ideology with the chaos of lived reality. A panicked voice is met with grounding sub bass, over which a superposition of arpeggiated chords glide. An emergent meter forms through an unseen grid before everything chaotically decoheres, revealing its ultimate fragility. ‘Wavelet’ is an attempt to describe the emergent and chaotic self through convolution and principal component decomposition. Identity is revealed via dizzying arrays of Moire patterns as rhythms slide over one another under liquefying bass pulses.
‘Memory Loops’ grapples with the inherent traumas present in any stochastic system, the vestigial remnants of code in everything’s DNA. We never escape reliving the consequences of these boundary conditions which define the historical trajectory of becoming.
‘In Theory’ conjures a hologram of emergence, an ecology of a self attempting to overcome each passing moment’s complexities in a bid for metastability. Oscillating fervently between the human and non-human, the EP offers riches for both cerebral listening and large soundsystem bodywork.

A limited edition physical release of ‘In Theory’ will be available in the form of a WiFi-enabled interactive visualizer trapped in a small holographic sculpture. The sculpture is handcrafted and coded by Isomov, and will retail exclusively on Bandcamp.
