Life And Death founder DJ Tennis has put together the first ever double CD and triple vinyl entry into the esteemed DJ-Kicks mix series. Due for release on 14th July, it features some brand new and exclusive tracks from the cultured DJ and producer. The first of which is the spine tingling ‘Certain Angles’ featuring Fink, out today, and marks the first time the pair have worked together since DJ Tennis's debut EP, Make It Good, back in 2012.

Nestled towards the end of disc two, ‘Certain Angles’ feat. Fink is an intimate and insular piece rich in warm atmosphere. Gentle bass synths propel it along as string sweeps and plaintive piano chords bring true majestic beauty to the track. It is sombre and downbeat but subtly uplifting thanks to the hopeful vocals of Fink. 

Much more a proper song than a functional club track, 'Certain Angles’ feat Fink is one for romantic late night occasions.

After nearly half a decade since their monumental ‘Make It Good’, DJ Tennis and Fink re-collide on !K7. The Certain Angles 12”, to be released on 13 October, includes an exclusive club mix by DJ Tennis. 

Inspired, recent studio sessions have bore two breathing, sonic landscapes, entitled ‘Certain Angles’. Glimmering pianos, droning machines and captivating song writing take form, wrapping the Berlin-based singer’s voice in subtle melancholy. Both humbly understated, yet party-ready, ‘Certain Angles’ perfectly summarises the Life and Death founder’s recent etching in the DJ-Kicks stone. 

DJ Tennis has also called on four of his most trusted allies to reinterpret the single, with four digital-only remixes: The/Das deliver a pensive moment of bubbling body music; Francesco Leali appears with a timeless, genre-bending re-perception as OPUS 3000; Lee Jones salutes the faithful dancers, while Mentrix’ unclassifiable excursion challenges the towering borders of Techno. Tricky has recruited heavyweight Italian producer and fellow !K7 artist DJ Tennis to remix ‘Running Wild feat. Mina Rose’, the third single to be taken form his universally acclaimed 13th studio album, Ununiform. Drawing on more than two decades of experience, DJ Tennis AKA Manfredi Romano has built up his reputation as an eclectic DJ and versatile producer.

The Life and Death label head twists Tricky’s hypnotic original with haunting electronics and brooding synths for an absorbing reinterpretation that is certain to entertain fans of Tricky and DJ Tennis alike.

Ununiform is the first album made since Tricky moved to Berlin, three years ago. While many people move to the clubbing capital of Europe to party, this was a clean break in every sense of the word. “I like it here because I don't know anybody. I eat good food, I go for walks, I've got a bike. I’m trying to look after myself. I don’t drink here. Some people call it boring, but I wake at 9am and I'm asleep by 11 o’clock at night. I’m looking after myself.”

Tricky also credits much of the freedom of Ununiform to something more grounded: “This album now is the first album I've made (in years) which isn’t going to pay off some kind of debt. So it's more relaxed!” Referring to his previous albums, False Idols, Adrian Thaws, and the Skilled Mechanics project, he says “I was doing these records thinking ‘the quicker I do this album, the quicker I pay off the tax people.’ So Ununiform has been very chilled out. Now, I own the label, I pay for everything myself. I'm a truly independent artist. Now I do what I want. Freedom is a beautiful thing.”

Today Maribou State announce 'Nervous Tics (DJ Tennis Remix)’ - the latest in a series of remixes to come from their new album “Kingdoms In Colour”, released on 7th September on Counter Records. Following a recent remix from Maceo Plex, and ahead of a forthcoming remix from Adesse Versions, DJ Tennis (founder of the Life and Death record label) takes on album highlight ‘Nervous Tics’ featuring Holly Walker on vocals with his classic touch, preserving the warmth and fragility of the original but rebuilds the track on a sleek, muscular 4/4 foundation.

As well as their upcoming Roundhouse live-show the newly formed five piece have now sold out all of their upcoming dates in 2018, and recently announced a headline show at London’s Brixton Academy on 7th March 2019 which sold over 60% of tickets in one week, as well as their first live tour of the US and further EU tour dates in 2019.

"Kingdoms In Colour” is Maribou State’s first full-length since 2015’s breakthrough debut album “Portraits”. The record entered the UK album charts at #25 and features singles ‘Feel Good’ - a collaboration born of their friendship with Houston-based trio Khruangbin; ‘Turnmills’ - aimed at raising awareness for the The Night Time Industries Association's #SaveNightlife campaign to protect the UK’s most vulnerable music venues from closure; and continues their long standing relationship with Holly Walker (vocalist on fan favourites ‘Steal’ and ‘Midas’) on ’Nervous Tics’ which is currently on the 6 Music A list.

Beginning life in 2011 as a project between Chris Davids and Liam Ivory, Maribou State had released a string of EP’s and singles before the arrival of debut album “Portraits” propelled them to the world stage. Spawning a live show that took them around the globe and included standout festival performances at Glastonbury, Bestival, a headline slot at Sonar by Day and Secret Garden Party; a 32-date European tour plus dates throughout Asia, Australia and America. Founder and A&R of @lifeanddeath, Manfredi Romano grew up tour-managing punk bands and organizing left-field music events in Italy around the turn of the Millennium. Having completed his studies in computer science at the University of Pisa, Manfredi went on to form DAZE, Italy’s first booking agency solely devoted to electronic music. Drawing on two decades of experience behind the scenes, Romano shifted focus  in 2010, establishing himself as a DJ in his own right. 

As a performer, Tennis valiantly showcases an astute ability to create intimacy in even the vastest of gatherings. As a respected producer, Romano consistently channels his past relationships with post-rock luminaries such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Tortoise and Fugazi into intricately-synthesised electronic constellations. Known for his Artist Management capabilities is responsible for breaking artists like Tale of Us, Mind Against and Carlita.

Fine chef and restaurant owner, Tennis splits his time between Paris and Miami, where he enjoys riding motorbikes, collecting vintage action-figures and building upon his vinyl record collection - which now numbers over eleven-thousand strong.
