"This year (2021) is my 20th DJ anniversary. That means I started mixing in the spring of 2001. Back then with a mixer & 2 turntables. I bought my records from deejay de & 77 Records in Straubing.
Back then it was a bit faster & harder than you are used to from me.

For this reason, I went back to the origins for this mix series and have corresponding techno tracks from then and now for the set collected & mixed.

The whole thing is called "Back to the Roots". The name fits very well. I created number 2 for deeprhytms.com & am looking forward to the release! Hope the set goes down well?!

One of the driving forces behind the excellent local community radio IDA Helsinki, a DJ & a producer Eric Filipus steps in for a guest mix and a chat. His mesmerising hypnotic set is a perfect example of how to build up a mood with a subtle interplay of tension and release. Inspiration for days.

"I pictured this hypnotic mix with slowly drifting emotions leading back to the nightlife after a long easy phase in life. At the same time I wanted to record something that would go nicely together with the cold temperatures and dark times arriving here in the north...

I feel it came out the way that it sort of grasps the listener but doesn’t give too much of a release at any certain point. Lately I’ve been inspired a lot by subtle and atmospheric stuff so I gathered some of those pieces together for this one. "

Domenic Cappello is described locally and known globally as a creative visionary, a ground-breaking electronic music icon, a world-class DJ, a master of his underground trade and a true ambassador of his native Glasgow. As one-half of Subculture (with Harri), someone who has been holding down a Sub Club residency for a quarter of a century needs little introduction. Needless to say, I'm in super happy to have the pleasure to have him on board.

The set is a special one too. A 90 minute recording of Domenic's live set at "We're Going Deep" night hosted by Placid (@placid_88) and Owain K (@owaink) in November '22 at the Love Inn (@theloveinn) in Bristol.

Shame on you if you've slept on Pletnev's "And You Never Come Back EP" that was a joint release between my label Echocentric Records and the mighty R.A.N.D. Muzik! The ep pretty much sums up the sound of Alex - wonky, hypnotic and bass heavy. Currently living in Vilnius, Alex has a string of releases under his many aliases on such esteemed labels as Quintessentials, Futureboogie, Not an Animal + many others - check his discogs for full catalogue. Also one half of the trancey duo Moisk, he's a busy bee with both producing and DJ'ing - he's holding a residency at the renowned Opium club in his home town. A new gorgeous Pletnev EP is about to his the stores in April on Burnin Music, don't miss that one.

Parisian DJ, producer, radio host and label co-owner Thomas Guillemot aka NairLess recorded guest mix number 126 for Deeprhythms. I met Thomas in Paris in January when his Aurore 404 crew invited me over to play at their party. I got to witness his excellent DJ'ing skills and got an impression of a very kind human being. 

Thomas has a handful of releases out already this year (and more coming soon) on such esteemed labels as Radiant Records (@radiantrecords), Slam City Jams (@slamcityjams) and Semi Delicious (@semi-delicious), keep your eyes peeled!

Guest mix #126 || NairLess for Deeprhythms

Timo and I met first online in the times of the early ADSL era in the beginning 00s. Back then he was already running (and still is!) the influential deep house mix page DeepRhythms.com that nobody only remotely interested in electronic music wouldnt be aware of in these days (Note: there were maybe a handful such pages online, Discogs was in version 0.1 and social media madness wasnt even on the horizon, so i guess without exaggeration you can call his work pioneering). 
Fast forward to 2023: These days he's still doing this thing plus he's got one and a half top-notch labels under his belt (running Echocentric Records and co-running Coymix) and is still a kick-ass DJ too. 
I'm especially happy to present a brand new mix by Timo on the EstimuloShow guest mix series,  here he is oscillating between old and recent tracks on the techier edge of house music, creating a flow with a pure party vibe.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jordan in Berlin a few weeks back. The scene really needs more DJ's like him - all about the music, making connections with likemind people and an advocate for the healing powers of dancing. Very glad to have him onboard!

HiToshi, a DJ and vinyl enthusiast from Helsinki, has quickly gained recognition in the local music scene over the past five years.With an eclectic vinyl collection and a fluid approach to DJing, he brings a unique blend of genres to his sets. In addition to his appearances at the Flow festival + holding a residency at the renowned club Kaiku, he contributes as a producer at IDA Radio Helsinki, supporting the local community from grassroots level. 

And what a classy mix did he provide! Smoothly shifting between raw house, disco and acid - it's safe to say HiToshi embodies the Helsinki music community's spirit, encouraging openness to diverse musical experiences on the dancefloor. Rightly so, he's gaining more and more international attention, an upcoming EU tour and appearance at HÖR being concrete examples of the quality of his craft.

Mr. Lee aka Hiroaki OBA is best known for being one half of Opal Sunn (together with Alex Kassian) that have taken the duo's live sets to festival & club stages like Sonar and Panorama Bar.

The Berlin based, self-proclaimed "just a humble Japanese guy" is one to watch out for with some solo material coming out early 2024 on RMECR (yes, that's short for RAND Muzik x Echcentric). Hiro's productions are hypnotic and the ever-expanding textures are a great example of how countless hours of jamming live with hardware evolve into an organic & unique sound.

One of the nicest persons in my orbit, needless to say I'm super, super happy to have him as a guest (and soon on vinyl!). Stellar mix too!

"I made this mix mainly with the tracks I played in Tokyo a year ago when I was back there. When I finalized the selection of the tracks I also felt I should put something fresh for me (since I made the mix almost after a half year of my Tokyo gigs), but I decided to use those tracks to compile my good winter memories in Tokyo 2022-2023."

Shadi's originated in Aleppo, is the Co-founder of Zuflucht Solidarity Festival Series and a well-known figure in the Mainz scene.

His sonic journey encompasses a broad spectrum from experimental, ambient, dub, and IDM to dancefloor-ready house and deep house, breakbeat, electro, and both old school & modern trance, among other genres.

"I just dusted off my records shelf, and went through it to put out my favourite dance yet home-listenig friendly records. Expect a journey from house to dub to simple and deeper groove."

"This mix came together just like every other set I play: on the fly. At home I like to keep a stack of my most recent/current favourite records in a stand, so it’s easy to just start mixing. One free evening I hit record on Audacity -  and 3 hours later I had this mixtape down. It’s not every session I play for that long, but why stop when you’re having fun? :)

The mix is a pretty accurate take on my current tastes and how I like to build push and pull into a set. My aim was to capture an atmosphere of timelessness, while a constant sub bass guides the listener through changing rhythms and sensations. I hope your 3 hours with the mix will go as quickly as mine did! "

The mix itself is a full length recording of his set at the release party at Bürro in Mainz, a wonderful showcase of his skills how to build and maintain energy throughout the night.

Leo’s also behind the superb Slump Recordings imprint which has released music by the likes of Gallegos, Duowe, mpeg and as of July 19th, High Priestess of the motherbeat, Eris Drew. 2024 has been a big year for Geoff Kirkwood, better known as Man Power. With huge EPs released on labels like Rekids, Make A Dance, Hypercolour, Sound As, and Me Me Me, he’s been as prolific as ever. In addition, he was invited to deliver both the RA Podcast and the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, just two months apart.

Kirkwood has also launched his own venue, Are You Affiliated, in North Shields, where he’s hosted standout acts such as Caribou, Optimo, and Gerd Janson. On the DJ circuit, he’s been seen playing back-to-back sets alongside heavyweights like Skream, Special Request, La La, Daniel Avery, Ewan McVicar, Artwork, and Erol Alkan.

Globally, he’s returned to an intense touring schedule, gracing stages across Europe, the US, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. Highlights include playing at Berghain’s iconic Lab.Oratory, Hi Ibiza, and DJ Harvey’s Klymax club in Bali.

With a new FM radio residency, an upcoming nationwide UK tour, and an Ibiza residency soon to be announced, 2024 is shaping up to be a monumental year for Man Power.

The wine pairing for this month is Nehrer's Burgenland Rot!

Burgenland Rot is a blend of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt Merlot and Syrah. Wonderful cherry aroma and fresh acidity reflecting the winery's terroir along with fine tannins! Perfect for the budding colors of autumn.

The grapes are harvested by hand and pressed. The wine is given 7 days of skin contact and matured in 2000l wooden barrels for at least 6 months before bottling. Unfined, unfiltered, vegan.

Available in Alko Arkadia, Tampere Stockmann and of course the webshop!

As the driving force behind Blauwdruk, he’s spent years curating events and a record label celebrating underground music. In 2020, he co-founded Open Source Radio, creating a new hub for electronic music lovers during lockdown. Today, he continues to curate at Mesh in Nijmegen, captivating audiences with his carefully crafted sets and deep connection to the dancefloor.

"This is a 90-minute (mostly) vinyl mix I recorded at Paak using a rotary mixer, which allowed for some smooth, blended transitions and a thick, rich sound throughout. Huge thanks to Paak for letting me record there while they set up their new lights—the whole setting added some energy to the mix.

I would describe the music as deep, soulful, sexy, and gritty. It’s mostly U.S. house with a bit of techno, and draws heavily from the roots —disco, funk, and jazz. Just how I like it I guess. I also put together a Buy Music Club list to go with the mix, highlighting some newer records that are available on Bandcamp. Hope you enjoy diving into the sounds as much as I did."

There’s something uniquely grounding about a conversation with someone like Enzio Etchaberri. The type of person who finds joy in the act of digging, discovering, and sharing music with the world. As a DJ, music producer, and programmer for one of Berlin’s most iconic clubs Enzio carries a deep respect for the roots of electronic dance music. All the while keeping an eye on its evolving future. Whether locked in his Lichtenberg studio or playing in the thick of Berlin’s nightlife his approach feels thoughtful, deliberate, and intensely human.

Thinking back to a fall morning last year in Sisyphos’ Wintergarten I can’t help but smile. It was one of those often times rare instances when everything – the music, the colors, the energy – came together to remind you why we gather in these spaces. No phones, no rush.

It’s those moments that Enzio seems to understand so well, and it’s exactly why I’m excited to share this conversation and the his wonderful mix with to you, our listeners!

Lately, I’ve been drawn to rolling tech-house from the ‘90s and early 2000s. There’s something about the way they lock into a groove that somehow feels timeless. So there’s a few records with that theme in the mix along with more house and melodic-heavy cuts.

I really enjoy the dynamic and contrast blending genres and old & new tracks to create these shifts in energy with a sense of push and pull. Around 29mins in you can hear an upcoming release of mine 🙂 "

Anna Kohlin has been shaping Stockholm’s underground from the inside. A long-time fixture behind decks and party lineups she sure knows how to read a room and flip it.

Her sets splice 90s house, tech-house, and breaks with newer oddities. Her approach is as precise as it's loose but never too clean. Expect gear shifts not gradients.

If you’ve danced at Stockholm venues such as Under Bron, NEU or anywhere slightly off-grid, you’ve likely caught her in her element.

As a producer, she’s released on Slump Recordings, Dirty Hands, KMA60, and Makemake Tapes. Her label, Inside Out, leans on the sound of the underground with cuts from Basement Space, Baby Rollén, Eric OS and herself.

Based in Edinburgh, Rai Scott (@serendipity) has been quietly releasing her instinctive blend of emotive electronic music since 2008. I've known her for quite a while and consider myself lucky to have released her ep "Planet Mercury" on Echocentric Records last year.  

As a DJ she got her start in the UK free party scene back at the end of the 90s. Deep House and Dub Techno have been her main influences, but she is also a big fan of Jazz, Blues, Ambient and downtempo electronic genres: especially material that emerged at the height of the UK scene during that early period.

As well as having her own releases, she produces and performs (live and DJ) as one half of 2DeepSoul and helps to run the Inner Shift Music imprint.

Her mix is just like her own productions - a perfect example of her machine-driven soul that marries warmth and natural melody with accented heavy rhythms.
