A morning connecting with nature and reminiscing about Hong Kong always leads us to this legendary institution. Established in 1922, by a family of immigrants from Hong Kong. This place never fails to fascinate me on multiple fronts every single time I go. Whether it is the sizzling tray of egg tarts coming straight out of the oven, seeing the bakers zoned in, creating magic or its ability to transport me spiritually to Hong Kong. Something I don’t think I can comprehend myself. 

So to celebrate 100 Years of Touch Of The Heart Bakery. We have curated this special project with some mega talented people. Hopefully this reflecting 4 Generations, dedication to the craft. The craft of literally touching hearts and creating smiles. Also was super to see Florence, a long time friend and next in line to take over at the bakery. Both being in the same year class at Chinese School decades ago, sharing a love for Marvin Gaye, Ryo Fukui and of course edits. She left me with some wonderful words by her late grandfather (Heard this from Jimmy Iovine too!) - “Give yourself time, to make something that will last forever. Egg Tart. A Timeless Art”

Kicking off a little project that has been on our mind for a minute. INTERNATIONAL DUMPLINGS. Following from our 2 PART VAs (named International Dumplings) we released a few years back. One thing we wanted always wanted to do was to do a deep dive into the different dumplings from each country and culture. Whether it is a tradition dish passed on for many generations, a family special or a modern take - it really is an art of intepretation, filled  with different stories from different paths of lives. That’s why we want to take this opportunity to work with different artists from each of these cultures. Like the dumpling, the art reflects the artist’s worldview, their influences and we really want to showcase that. 

For the first instalment we go to Sweden, where we focus on a dumpling of theirs  - KROPPKAKOR. Originated from a small island called OLAND. With a track provided from the ever elusive KRPKKR. Who kindly provided an edit perfect for the summer - and also his personal connection with this dumpling. (check slides on our instagram) Hope you enjoy this track and his words.

Another Chinese Cuisine we absolutely love (and many people do) is Hot Pot aka 打邊盧(Da Bin Lo) or 火鍋 🔥 To Us and to many - we see this as the perfect meal for the winter. These eateries really represented the hybridity of Hong Kong - East Meeting West with their food. However what we love is the atmosphere and their importance of Local Support and Love. SUNDAY STEPPER SOCIETY SESSION 002 - MAHJONG WITH THE AUNTIES

TRACK: ALFREDO ROMERO - COPPER POT

After a few months of lockdown. The Sunday Stepper Society in the DimSumDistrict opens it's doors again for their weekly Mahjong sessions. We had an opportunity to speak to a small handful of these happy 'aunties' who haven't had a chance to play for a while. With one of the aunties saying "The over 2000 year old game is timeless and generation - bringing me closer and more curious about my Chinese heritage." Also an activity that has brought communities together according to another Auntie.

To provide the sunday energy influenced rhythms for these amazing and strong women are 5 artists that we have been amazed by. Big Up Alfredo Romero, Cooke, Donny Rotten, EYRA and Luke Hazell for helping us execute this idea with tracks of different styles. All showing appreciation of the tunes at the downtempo and more mellow end of the spectrum of steppy riddims.

Kicking Off Volume Three We Bring You The Sounds Of THO. Known for curating some of the best experiences via his co founded party Spaced LDN.  Known for his in-depth musical library and exquisite tastes across various genres - Tho will take you on a steppy galactic journey via his point of view. His first mix in the UKG & 2Step Nature. We have been massive fans of his mixes so a huge honour to have him on our series. 

Tho On UKG - "Ah UKG. My love for the genre goes back even further back than I can really remember. Back in my teens, I used to nab my Dad's Pure Garage CDs and rave away in my bedroom, singing away to the timeless catchy jams on my tod. Even my first ever record I bought was a garage tune (El-Tuff 2-3-Bass for anyone wondering). Nothing beats playing a UKG 2step slinky number in the middle of a house set and seeing the instant reaction from people. It seems to have some kind of magnetic pull over people - me included as with every time I move home, I seem to move closer and closer to the birthplace of UKG in the deepest parts of South London. Even my girlfriend pretty much refuses to listen to anything else (garage girls are so fine hey). I loved putting my first 2step inspired mix for DimSum - hope you dig it."

Energies Flowing From UK to Japan. Excited to start 2021 with a bang, and share with you a project that we loved every minute of. An exploration into Japanese culture via our lens and working with various talented individuals through this opened door of collaboration. Big Up Keiju & Stones Taro, providing the UKG sounds of Kyoto. With Picasso & PJ Bridger representing London with two rudeboy rhythms. Artistically we also linked up with the majestic Masataka Yoshida aka @mzabc who executed our vision for the artwork in succulent fashion. To compliment that we decided to supply a 1990 Japanese inspired Instazine "Konbini" - speaking to some of the creators involved including UK/Japanese photographer Toby Sakata. Zine compiled by @Prfntsy

We hope this project gives a taster of what is to come for this year and a big thank you to everyone who came on this journey in 2020. Very grateful. To A Great 2021.
