DJ TOOL - Puzzle Box

As each year passes, it has become clearer that Israeli statehood includes permanent control of the West Bank and the continued seizure of Gaza. For decades Israeli politicians have posed the question 'one state or two states?' whilst forcibly annexing more territory each passing year and simultaneously placing Israeli citizens into illegal settlements within private Palestinian territories in violation of international law. This demonstrates the impossibility the Israeli government poses against the existence of a viable Palestinian state.

Israel has redefined Palestinian statehood to include ever less territory and ever less sovereignty. Each year as the Palestinian population increases, Palestinian land size decreases. It is now estimated that 40% of Israeli settlements are built on Private Palestinian land. The age old 'two-state' solution no longer offers a legitimate alternative to Israels current path.

In May last year, the Israeli government announced it's plans to annex 280km squared of private Palestinian land in the West Bank and Jordan Valley. That is a total land size greater than Paris, Athens, Copenhagen and Porto together. As a result of the illegal and sustained annexation of Palestinians land, Al Gharib is eager to announce it's second release 'Palestine', a 35 track compilation seeking to raise awareness towards Israel's illegal annexation of private Palestinian land.

ALL the funds generated from the 'Palestine' CD & Bandcamp sales will be distributed to our friends at Olive Kids who are an Australian registered volunteer only organisation dedicated to improving the lives of Palestinian children in Palestine and in refugee camps within neighbouring countries through financial support, education and medical assistance.

Olive Kids are partnered with Al-Amal Institute for Hope, an orphanage based in Gaza advancing lifesaving support to Palestinian orphans. A large portion of the funds will be distributed by Olive Kids to Al-Amal Institute to sponsor orphans at their orphanage. These funds will be used to cover a bed for residence at the orphanage, food and water for the child, educational classes for the year, medicine and psychiatric support, clothing, stationary and transport to the orphanage. The remaining funds will be directed towards Olive Kids' 'Gaza Emergency Appeal', a project seeking to purchase 6000 hygiene packages, 600 food packages, 2,000 COVID-19 tests and fuel for hospital generators.

DJ TOOL - Sinkhole

In collaboration with ∄ and for its second birthday, Standard Deviation presents ’Vertex’ – a compilation of eight artists that shaped the sound of the club over the course of the last year. The release is accompanied by a printed zine featuring the 4 pairs of artists interviewing each other.
A vertex is a point where several lines or objects meet and intersect with each other. It is synonymous to a node – a fundamental unit that consists of a set of edges that form a greater structure. The concept of a vertex is symbolic to both the Club’s and Label’s approach: connecting the dots between countercultures, bringing together local and international artists to form an inclusive dialogue.

An exchange of ideas, cultures and perspectives remains our main endeavour, and the main idea behind this special release. The compilation features four local and international artists – friends and collaborators, in conversations mediated by Mariana Berezovska, Berlin based Ukrainian journalist and founder of Borshch Magazine. The project is illustrated with a series of ceramic artworks by a Kyiv-based artist Emptyland.
Long-term friend of the Club and Label – Nene H talks with ∄ resident and music teacher – Nastya Vogan, uprising talent and Mala Junta co-founder – DJ Tool comes together with protagonist of Kyiv’s queer scene – Gael, new Label prospect Omon Breaker – with Herrensauna resident Salome as well as Augsburg based, queer party ’HAMAM’s organisator – Sedef Adasi with ∄ resident-since-the-start – Recid.

The compilation is club tailored, ranging from vocal-infused Tech House, Acid and Electro to fast Techno, Trance and EBM. The wide array of styles represented in the compilation is reflective of ∄’s identity, while the artists featured on this release have been shaping the sound of the club during these monumental two years. Special collaborations like Nene H’s vocally explicit work with Nik Mantilla and Omon Breaker’s piece, created in collaboration with Ukrainian EBM group Garden Krist exemplify the label’s stance on shifting genre borders and encouraging experimentation.

In coherence with the last years compilation ’Intermission’, we have asked Emptyland to reinterpret the small Sigma symbol (the mathematical equation of Standard Deviation) according to her own vision of this project. She created five versions of the symbol, each symbolizing the bond between the artists featured on the compilation. The artworks are sold at ∄ only.

∄ is a non-binary, safer space in Kyiv, vibrating to the sounds of electronic music. Every season the space assumes a new name and a new identity that expresses itself throughout the program.

For this next version of the Fast Forward Audio Series, we are also presenting a new artist to the Fast Forward family: DJ Tool !

With his roots deep in the Copenhagen DIY music scene Joachim Palsby, aka DJ TOOL, has been playing and collecting different music for more than a decade. After many years of playing punk, metal and electronic noise music, he slowly developed an interest in techno and trance. For years he has been roaming the international dance floors as a loyal dancer, and ended up behind the booth with the skills of all vinyl Djing. DJ TOOL is a classic example of a DJ that merges directly from the floor to the booth. He is the Co-organizer and resident DJ of Mala Junta. Mala Junta is a smaller intimate party with focus on old school, faster and harder techno and trance that is merging in Berlin. The party quickly became among Berlins most recognized parties for its special music profile. His sets are an authentic and always well executed blend of sexy techno and gloomy trance. The sound is old-school, hard and fast but always funky and uplifting. With a passion and expertise in longer sets, his closings are highly recommended.

This time they once again join forces and deliver a cold, groovy mix of energetic, funky old school techno over low key gloomy trance to modern techno tools and their own productions.
