We are huge fans of the Organic House movement that has grown up around artists like Tim Green, Volen Sentir and Roy Rosenfeld. If we are building a house set from the ground up, the foundations are often from labels like All Day I Dream and Lost Miracle. One of our favourite artists is Gorje Hewek. His hypnotic style regularly provides that transition from the super-deep grooves above to the heavier pulse we want to hear later on. "Forever" is one of our favourite tracks of his and after some chat back and forth, he sent us this incredible version of "Children". A wee bit of sample clearance later, and now it is yours to enjoy. So, if you're looking for the perfect sun-kissed anthem for your pool party, this is it.

Gorje Hewek & ETNE - Children (Extended Mix)

Curtis Graham is a DJ and producer from the North East. He runs the Mode parties (most recently with East End Dubs @ The Dickens, Middlesborough). As a DJ, his sets run through minimal and house, touching on like-minded producers such as Louden, Iglesias, and Stef Davidse. "Rich Girl" is his take on the Gwen Stefani song. It began gaining traction on Tiktok via the on-point Groove Supply account, with their original post racking up thousands of likes, shares and comments. Now, with the vocals recreated, we can deliver to everyone clamouring for the release. An ideal DJ record for 2024 - simple and effective with a side order of viral heat.

Rich Girl

Curtis Graham - Rich Girl (Extended Mix)

We are long-time fans of The Deepshakerz at GU, but it's been a minute since we've had them on the label (2018's collab with Ferreck Dawn, to be precise!) Since then, they have delivered killer heat for labels like Club Sweat, Cajual and Moonharbour. Recently, they have expanded their authentic house sound to include Afro flavours, and that's the style they bring with "Midnight Ritual". Alongside Zimbabwe-born vocalist and fashion designer Xander Pratt, they deliver a rolling, percussion-fuelled Afro club journey with a brilliantly left-fiend spoken delivery from Pratt. It's the kind of record we can hear equally in the sets of Louie Vega and Black Coffee. Don't miss out.

Midnight Ritual

Greenthump is a pair of tech house DJs and producers from Brazil. Since 2019, they have been developing a loyal band of DJ supporters attracted to their club-friendly grooves. In the last year, this support exploded, including A-listers like Marco Carola, Jamie Jones, and Franky Rizardo. "Poppin' Off" is a no-nonsense, high-octane tech house banger. Rolling percussion and rapid-fire bass create the energy you hear at Elrow or from DJs like Tini Gessler, while a hooky hip-hop sample delivers the ear candy on top. Straight fire.

GreenThump - Poppin' Off (Extended Mix)

Giulio Cadri is a young DJ and producer from Turin in northern Italy. His releases effortlessly move from Deep House through House to Minimal and Tech. He first appeared on our radar in 2020 when his releases with The Deepshakerz's Safe Music and Saab's SK Recordings, alongside his remixes for Jey Kurmis, caught our attention. His debut for us was the wondrously deep "Make It Hot". He's been a bit quiet lately, so we were delighted when he popped up in our inbox with this remake of Hotel Ugly's biggest cut. He takes the wonky vocals and tripped-out keys of "Shut Up My Moms Calling" and wraps them around a delicious groove of swinging beats and slow-burning bass. What a tune!

Giulio Cadri - Shut Up My Moms Calling (Extended Mix)

Kevin's reinterpretation of this Phil Collins classic has been one of his most successful releases this year. His rewiring of a song made famous by a chocolate advert to a guitar-propelled Afro groove was inspired. The minute she received the promo, Amal Nemer asked us for the parts; she wanted to turn this daytime party moment into a late-night deep roller. As she is one of our favourite DJs, we could hardly refuse! Fast-forward a few months to ADE, and Amal is DJing alongside Hugel at the W Hotel's exclusive Room#339 party. A deep percussive jam weaves into the mix before Simon Ellis' superb vocals drop into view. Amal turns and smiles, and we experience this killer rework for the first time. What a jam.

Kevin McKay - In The Air Tonight (Amal Nemer Extended Remix)

Castion is the artist name of Spanish DJ and producer Antonio Cabrera. Over the past few years, he has released top-drawer tech house on labels like Sola, Night Service Only, 303 Lovers and Clarisse. If you like the high-octane quirk of Iglesias, this guy is for you. "Deeper & Deeper" is his debut for us and delivers everything we want from an underground house jam: stand-out samples, popping percussion, and a killer kick-and-bass groove. File under funky-as-fuck.

Castion - Deeper & Deeper (Extended Mix)

Gorje Hewek is a Bulgarian-born, Germany-based DJ and music producer who made his name in the gentle percussive electronics of Organic House. His debut for us, a collaboration with fellow Germany-based artist ETNE was a blissful rework of Robert Miles’ Children that has just been crowned the #1 selling Organic House release of 2024. As his stature has grown, the parties he is playing have followed suit. This has seen him move his left-field house into tougher realms. Likeminded artists and labels (Adam Ten, Maccabi House, Diynamic) have taken this sound and congregated in the Indie Dance genre; Hewek’s recent stand-out release with Rony Seikaly on Watergate has only enhanced his reputation in this space. Joining him on this release is Just Fine (a collaboration between ETNE and Mike Spirit).
You get no prizes for guessing that this is a rework of the mid-noughties Killers anthem. What you do get is a brilliantly throbbing version of a song that will resonate on most dancefloors with a superb breakdown and a drop that will have your crowd punching the air with delight. And, if you need any proof, just head to Gorje’s Instagram and watch him deliver those results at a recent rooftop party. It’s a winner.

Gorje Hewek, Just Fine - Mr. Brightside (Extended Mix)

If you tried to bet us at the beginning of 2024 that we would end the year with an Afro House cover of "Last Christmas", we would have bitten your hand off! And how wrong we would have been. JOHANNSON's version of the Wham classic took us and the majority of listeners by surprise. It also struck a chord with DJs climbing the charts before exiting, unsurprisingly, shortly after the holidays. Thankfully, his follow-up is not another Wham rework but a blissful original jam filled with mesmerising vocals and exquisite piano work. If you're feeling LEVI, Maz and other kicked-back, sun-kissed Afro stars like them, this is for you.

JOHANNSON - Chase The Sun (Extended Mix)

Jezu first appeared on our radar with his heavy-hitting “Chiki Chaka” on Cloonee’s Hellbent imprint. Despite releasing since 2023, he’s already clocked up some impressive DJ fans with Chelina Manuhutu, AYYBO, Gene Farris, Gordo, and Solardo all supporting the Chicago-based producer. For “Remember Me,” he teams up with Italian producer Blow (who you might know from his collabs with Draxx on elrow & Hellbent) for a no-holes-barred percussive throwdown featuring the wonderful Elliotte Williams-N’Dure vocaling the Marlene Shaw cuts that Blueboy used on the original version of this song. With a vocal this celebrated and an infectious dancefloor-filling groove, it’s no wonder that Cloonee, Miane, and Blackchild are already all over this one! Dive in.

Jezu (US), Blow (ITA) - Remember Me (Extended Mix)

“Work” is one of the most evergreen club records we have had the pleasure to release. Every few months a new version pops up and DJs are delighted to be hammering it from pillar to post. We have been loving the Indie Dance sound of Adam Ten, Mita Gami and Max Styler, so we reached out to Max for a remix. He was unavailable but, the same manager that brought Max to GU in 2022 suggested Broken Hill. We absolutely loved his cut on Maccabi House and let the San Diego-based producer loose on Kevin’s stems. The result is simply stunning. Previewed by Max Styler at Factory Town during Miami Music Week, our inbox has been white-hot for this one since Styler’s social media posts showcasing the results. Well, here it is, that iconic vocal with a turbocharged post punk bass and some live drums that kick the butt of any system we’ve played it on. Once again… it’s a hit.

It’s been a minute since we’ve had our head of A&R, Sam Dexter, on the label. 2022 was the last time we had some Dexter deepness to fill up our USB. However, just listening to this sumptuous slice of underground groove, we all agree that “Just A Dream” is worth the wait! Loopy, skippy drums lead the way before wondrously hypnotic keys and a slow-burning bottom end take the groove into overdrive. Next is Dexter’s own vocal (pitched up, to sound female, like Breach did in “Jack”) tells us it was “All just a dream, just a dream” before a delicious horn solo tops the lot. Like a 90s MAW transported to 2025, this is pure jazzy house brilliance.

We’re big fans of Dario Pontecorvo, aka Draxx. As one of the first labels to release his turbocharged tech (his and CVMPANILE’s barn-storming remix of “Work”) we’ve been enjoying his rise through the ranks. Most people will know him from his huge Techengue jam “No No No” on Ultra, but our favourite is his big room masterpiece “Tomala (Se Mueve Se Siente)” (w/ Andruss). Here he joins forces with fellow Italian Dave Delly for a slick DJ friendly tech banger. “I’m a Freak,” the vocal announces, “I’m five foot nothing but nasty. All week, we keep it classy, but when the weekend comes we get trashy”. Add to this the kind of drums that will make any room jump and a moody Armand Van Helden style breakdown, and you have a stand-out club winner. As if that wasn’t enough, Draxx has included the super “Loca” as a B-side.

Draxx (ITA), Dave Delly - Freak (Extended Mix)

Dusty Springfield’s version of this is a stone-cold classic. Over the years it’s been a sampler's favourite with both Sonny Fodera and Maribou State two big names who have crafted a version. Travis Emmons has provided some of our favourite deep house re-rubs over the years (his “Grapevine” rework is an anthem in East London), so when he popped up with this one we were all over it like a powerful moss. When it came to singers, there was only one option too. Darcey has delivered some dynamite for us and her soft jazzy tones are absolutely perfect here. So sit back, press play and enjoy some delicious deepness in the sunshine.

GU Radio Week 18 with Kevin McKay - Afro House Mix

It’s been a minute since we’ve had Sven Kerkhoff on the label. 2021’s big-charting, DJ-friendly classic house of “Hear The Music” is our last collab. That said, we’re big fans of his classic house sound; it’s no wonder that top-drawer labels like Nervous and Henry Street have featured his slow-burning beats. “Need You” began life as a demo that Sven and fellow Germany-based producer Nuray Alkan sent to Kevin McKay. He loved the ideas in it so much, he got involved. The resulting collaboration has touches of Kerkhoff’s influences (DJ Tonka, Ian Pooley), Nuray’s love of classic house and Kevin’s loopy 90s cut-ups (it’s giving us serious “Don’t Turn Your Back On Me” vibes!) So, if disco-fuelled 90s deepness is your thing, this is for you!

Kevin McKay, Sven Kerkhoff, Nuray Alkan - Need You (Extended Mix)

Having produced Mylo’s platinum-album “Destroy Rock’n’Roll”, Kevin McKay is no stranger to Indie Dance. So, when labels like Maccabi House and Diynamic started populating that genre with a new turbo-charged version of the sound, he was all over it. Next came an offer from Columbian producer Hever Jara with a vocal and synth hook that was just dying to be given the post-punk bass treatments. Add in some live drums and a killer kick and we have “Disco Bobby”, a prime-time slice of heavyweight tackle.

“Walk on By” was written by the legendary songwriting duo of Burt Bacharach and Hal David for Dionne Warwick. Dionne’s 1964 version stands up as probably the best version to date, despite having some big hitters recording covers (Isaac Hayes, The Stranglers, Gloria Gaynor). We have a soft spot for the Gabrielle version in the GU office, but, really, Dionne nailed it. When it comes to samples, however, the Isaac Hayes version smashes Dionne out the park with over 100 artists sampling his version, although you could argue that Doja Cat’s 2023 lift of Dionne (“Paint The Town Red”) and its 1B+ streams trumps all of that. The point of all this? Well, nothing more than to show the song is an evergreen staple for artists and producers for the last 50 years. Adding to this now we have Italian producers Skylin3 and Simon Adams who put a deep house spin on the classic melody. Disco beats and a loopy bassline form the groove, add in some delicious chords and that iconic topline, and you have the kind of super-playable deep house that will entertain from poolside to the club. Tasty.

Glasgow Underground was set up in 1997 by Kevin McKay. He began the label releasing his own music and collaborations with friends and other Glasgow-based artists (Omid 16b, Studio Blue, DJ Q, Harri). Through his DJing and work for various music magazines (Muzik, Jockey Slut, Mixmag Update) he met some of his favourite producers of the time (Romanthony, Mateo & Matos, Idjut Boys...) and convinced some of them to join him releasing on GU. In the early 2000s, Kevin met Mylo and set up the Breastfed record label. The global success of "Destroy Rock & Roll" meant Glasgow Underground was put on hold. After leaving the Breastfed label in 2011, Kevin re-started Glasgow Underground and since then the label has gone on to re-invigorate Romanthony's catalogue with remixes from the likes of Dixon, MCDE, Gerd, Andres, Oliver Dollar, Ejeca, Audiojack, Claptone, Christian Nielsen, Supernova, Jimmy Edgar and Waifs & Strays. The label has also introduced producers like Daniel Trim, Brett Gould, Mia Dora and Illyus & Barrientos as well has releasing established & rising stars such as Metodi Hristov, Stefano Ritteri and Sabb.
