Well, here we are again...

As the weather gets better, and the temperature rises we all need the correct musical selections to accent the mood. Who better to do this than our friends the mighty mighty DOMply crew out of Rio De Janeiro? A multi-faceted gang of French and Brazilian diggers and party organisers who push a unique style and sound. 

Craig Ouar has been our friend for a couple of years now, and was the best host you could ever ask for on GGHQ's recent Brazil tour, welcoming us into his home and showing us the incredible sights and sounds of Rio and Sao Paolo. Craig and Simon (Who also happens to be one of the guys behind the dope Parisian Bayetë collective) are 2 members of what is a bigger picture (big big love to Giu, Pino, Mauricio, Cleo, Andre, Juliana and everyone else too!) and their 2+ hour mix showcases a true flavour of what DOMply and their incredible parties are all about - an original collection of deep Brazilian and global sounds that are definitely the result of their surroundings and broad influences.

So - We're back with mix #57, which is very special indeed. 
It took us a little while, but we finally managed to get a sublime mix from our friends Elaine and Jack, also known as Time Is Away.

Digging into the outer realms of everything from dream-pop, dub, reggae to dub techno and beyond, Time Is Away are 2 of London's finest and most original record playing duos. They've been friends of GGHQ for many years and have been the brains and ears behind a couple of borderline cult mixtapes, as well as their long running and much loved NTS radio show.

This fine selection for GGHQ sees all sorts of mysterious b-sides, obscure 12 mixes, deep LP cuts and rarities woven together with the care and the instinctual approach to playing records that comes with years and years spent combing dusty racks in backwater suburban towns and infamous record stores alike. Like us, Time Is Away are equal opportunities listeners and no stone is left unturned when it comes to finding the gems.

It's also the end of 2020 (thank fuck) and a time to try and enjoy ourselves after a supremely shite year.

We're happy to have the man like Toby Tobias on board for this one, a true London digger, DJ, producer and man about the city. 

Toby's been in the game for a minute or 2 and he's been grafting away for years releasing music on top shelf labels like Rekids, ESP Institute and Futureboogie to name just a couple. His original productions and re-edits have found their way into discerning selectors bags across the world and TT is a dope DJ himself too, as this mix shows. He's also a collector of rave and dance culture ephemera and his recent zine (a collab with Klasse Wrecks - link below)showcases some of his deep archive. 

Clocking in at 2.5 hours, Toby's mix runs the gamut from glacial ambient to stepping dubwise electronics, to pristine house, techno deep digs and way beyond. It's a proper mix, made by someone who puts in work to find great records and it's the ideal way to kick off this years GGHQ mix.

We certainly do, and we were absolutely chuffed when Harri came on board and beamed us up with this belter of a mix. 

Harri is one of the busiest DJs out there right now, a London resident who embodies the digging ethos, has no fear, loves to play on the fringes and take chances with his records. After a brief hiatus, Going Good makes a triumphant return with an exclusive limited CD / Digital release, presenting the London duo The Soft and their mesmerising 8-track album, 'Lifelike.' This musical journey is the result of two close friends, Zander Fletcher and Henry Morris, who set out to create electronic music with a touch of human soul and depth. The album, meticulously recorded between 2015–2020 in Forest Hill, South East London, showcases a fusion of Downtempo, IDM, Ambient, Techno, and House sounds, all masterfully crafted with genuine originality and emotional depth.

Fletcher and Morris, lifelong musical collaborators, discovered their unique style and approach to music-making from a young age. Their talent eventually caught the attention of Luke Abbott, with whom they collaborated on an EP in 2012. The inception of 'Lifelike' took shape in the attics and living rooms of various locations where the pair resided, giving each track a distinct and personal touch. Sadly, in December 2018, Zander Fletcher passed away, leaving behind the unfinished project. In 2022, Henry Morris took up the mantle, completing 'Lifelike' with the utmost dedication and reverence for his close friend, cherishing the essence of the musical connection they shared.

This release holds significant sentimental value, embodying rich history and boundless energy. Going Good takes immense pride in presenting this soulful and contemplative collection of tracks. This limited-edition disc is adorned with captivating artwork by William Glass, while the masterful audio engineering by Dean at Compound Audio ensures an exceptional sonic experience.

A rather special affair from one of the many friendly faces we met down in Norwich earlier this year. What a place. Honestly, a real eye-opener with loads of passionate music folk lurking. Ben aka Sseagulls is a proper head and all-round local legend there and someone who definitely knows how to play the records, as you'll hear from this mix. Sseagulls, from deepest Norfolk, floating in to provide a mix for the GGHQ! Head Keg filler and party supplier for the Cosmic Pint Glass, Sseagulls, has been organising the musical output for the record label for the past 12 years. This mix was originally assembled to put some of the Cosmic Pint Glass influences on paper. Containing Library Gems, Jazz Fusion, Deep and Balearic House, Minimal and Prog Rock, these tracks are from all ends of the human creation. But there is a common thread in them all, a shared brightness. All exuding some sort of granular sparkles, covered in cosmic sprinkles if you will.

Our Berlin buddy and Celtic soul brother Jank Inc. supplying us with 70+ minutes of lefthand electrics of all shades and persuasions. One of the founders of Berlin club night and record label 'Pace Yourself', Jack has been out there transmitting for a wee while now. We've played at his heady club night at Paloma in the past, where a disgusted German woman stormed out of the club midway through the majestic Red Zone remix of Will Downing's 'The world is a ghetto' stating that it was 'the most offensive thing' she'd ever heard, followed by a near sunday morning war with the denizens of Görlitzer Park. All in all - we knew were kindred with the Pace Yourself mob that weekend. Only right then, that Jack should come aboard the good ship GG for a mix. 

Jack's mix is deep, subtle, atmospheric and introspective. The perfect music to drift to, all lovingly put together on a recent visit to his mother's house in Scotland. If you've tuned in to any of his Refuge Worldwide shows, or attended any of his underground events, then you know already. We're happy to present this one, get lost in it. You'll like it.

GGHQ Mix #73 : Jank Inc. - 'The Doghouse'

For the 74th mix we want to pay tribute to a friend of GGHQ whom we sadly lost a year ago this week, Paul 'DJ Regal' Eve. 

We shared the second part of his 'The Bronx Is Burning' mix series back in 2019, but the file for this first part has been sitting in the GGHQ Mediafire account (remember those?) for the last 15 years. We felt it only right to celebrate Paul, and share his amazing selections for everyone to hear and enjoy. This was originally recorded and shared via Brian Not Brian and Jeremy Spellacey's 'Ghetto Disco' blog from way back, and the link (and blog) have been long inactive. 

This mix has got some absolute jams on it, lovingly selected, spliced, edited and worked into a frenzy by Regal in his home studio back in 2010. This is music for B-Boys, hustlers, poppers, lockers, groovers, smokers, shakers and movers. Inspired by the mythical block parties and mastermix radio shows of NYC infamy that have captured all of our imaginations and shaped our musical landscapes to this day.

GGHQ Mix #35 : Esclé - 'A Window To The Sun'

Cosmic Handshakes sees the pairing of 2 extremely talented Detroit natives - Blair French & Todd Modes - who take elements of Disco, Techno, Jazz, House, Afrobeat, Latin music, Dub and Electronics and filter them through their own unique view of dance music. Steeped in soul, live instrumentation, sampling and analogous alchemical studio processes, French & Modes give us an exhilarating and fresh take on the deepest smoked out, after hours sounds of the city of Detroit. 

'In The Mist' is the duo's second release, following on from 2013's 'The Delicate Details', released on the M1 Sessions imprint. The last 2-3 years has seen the pair individually release music on a plethora of varied and esteemed global labels such as FIT Sounds, Claremont 56, Rocksteady Discos and more. We at GGHQ are very excited to finally share with the world what we feel is hands down one of our favourite releases yet. 

A compelling body of work from front to back, the tracks on 'In The Mist' work perfectly as a self contained home listener, or as we've found, just as well on a darkened dancefloor, leaving the choice up to you, the listener.

It's been a minute, but we're happy to give you the second GGHQ mix of 2018. Yeah, we know it's been tough since the last one, such is life. 

A beautifully immersing, soothing and rhythmically deep listen this time around courtesy of our friend Scott Gailey, who (alongside partner Yu Su) makes some killer music as - You're Me. We first met Scott in Glasgow where You're Me performed a stellar ambient live set and then on a freezing December night in Vancouver last year where we were lucky enough to catch him and Yu Su perform a second live set at Deep Blue. Both sets were completely different, but both were incredible.

GGHQ Mix #39 : Scott Johnson Gailey (You're Me / Vancouver)- 'When You Have To Get Up'

For the very first transmission of 2019 we welcome back an old friend, an associate, a man happily operating very much in the shadows - DJ Regal. 

Reggie's name may seem familiar to some, he was, after all, 50% of global chart-topping breakbeat exploitation crew The Wiseguys (alongside DJ Touche)in the mid to late 1990's, before some of you even knew what hunting for records was all about, he was digging around the world. He also served his time with the boombox, printed secret break-beat lists and even behind the counters of London's notorious MVE record emporium as well as being part of The Bronx Dogs alongside the mighty & equally legendary Richard Sen. He's always been someone with a deep deep knowledge and love of samples, breaks and (proper) hip-hop culture. Needless to say, a mix from the man is a big deal for us at GGHQ, and this is actually the SECOND volume he's made for us. The first one was originally posted on a now deceased blog that Brian Not Brian & Jeremy 'Crown Ruler' Spellacey had back in the early 2000's and was, and still is, a firm fave here with us. Heavy rotation indeed. 

It's all here folks, classics, edits, alternate versions - the lot. All lovingly selected, mixed and pieced together by DJ Regal somewhere on the outskirts of the metropolis. This is not your fly by night record-trend, 5 mins in the game type of scenario, this is the real deal and we are blessed to be able to soak it up and share it with you too. Real deal B-boy business.

D certainly has music coursing through him. A truly gifted and prodigious DJ, producer and creator of the tastiest 'Stick-meat' one would care to savour. He's one of our favourite transplanted Norwegians. We've counted Henning as one of our friends for quite a few years now, so we're very very happy to have this flawless almost 2 hour mix from him. Honoured, in fact. He very nearly almost released a record with us too! Maybe in the future we'll make it happen. 

A producer and DJ whose sonic palette always taps into the inner sunshine we all have through his deft approach to melody and good feeling in his music, this mix takes in all of the above, but in a gentle and nuanced way. The niftiest fiftieth - The latest instalment of this here mix series. 

50 is a milestone! You know we had to bring some heat. We had to make sure it was a big one. That's why we asked Richard to make us this super duty tough mixtape, and he kindly obliged! 

Richard has been a longtime associate of ours here at the GGHQ, a DJ, remixer, producer, B-boy and writer who we've appreciated for at least a couple of decades or more. He's someone who is legitimately from the old-school who's always trodden his own path, whether it's visually, sonically or as a DJ. He has laid down some of our favourite musical moments, edits and mixes over the years. We're honoured to have this jammy from him, and to be honest he 'went in', as they say... digging deeper into his b-boy roots to give us (in his words)a heavyweight selection:

Back at it... 

Another sonic feast for mix #51 - This time it's our man in Berlin (via Moss), international artist, DJ, producer, painter, illustrator, bomber, RC enthusiast and gentleman of leisure DJ Fett Burger. 

Always nice to have family on-board. The burger man has been a close associate for ours here at HQ for a long time now and he's someone we respect a lot, someone who can turn their hand to pretty much anything and inject it with his own unique funk and style. We like that a lot. A true original. We've had some local and global DJ escapades together and we're stoked he's in the house for this killer mixtape. 

One of the founders of the mighty SEX TAGS empire (along with a TON of other projects)DJ Fett Burger has dropped a sweet and easy freewheeling selection for us that takes in lots of different styles of music. Where has 2020 gone? 

We are almost out the other side of this insane year, and we at GGHQ hope that you are all safe and sound. The music never stops, and we hope that our friends have all found some solace and enjoyment through the simple acts of listening, discovering & sharing. 

We're super happy to see out 2020 with this, our last mix of the year. We couldn't be in better hands to be honest. Øyvind is a top selector, producer, remixer and he is one of those DJ's who is beyond versatile. He just knows music inside and out and is a formidable talent in the booth... genre and sounds are no barriers to him and his own style is unmatched. A longtime former resident at Oslo's clubbing institution JAEGER, Øyvind held down Wednesday nights there for a decade plus welcoming a host of global DJ luminaries and tastemakers into his zone. 

Here we find Øyvind in a relaxed mood, combing his impressive collection for more spaced out and downtempo grooves, offering a deep selection to soothe and get lost in. We're really pleased to present this lovely mix to you from our friend and someone who we feel is a true talent out there in the vast world of music we all inhabit.
