Past Summer Love

I’ve been thinking lately about “low” emotional states and what purpose they serve. We all feel low, glum, sad, or even depressed sometimes, but it's nothing to feel ashamed of.  All these emotions serve a purpose to our overall well-being. They are not bad emotions, as they can be perceived, but are part of the grieving process. 
 
Grief can come from many places. You may be grieving for the state of the world, the environment, a passed loved one, a break up, or are experiencing season affective disorder (SAD). Whatever it is, it’s okay to feel this way. It’s part of the full spectrum of experience.

Grief is a recognition of a bond and it is very important that we release and allow ourselves to grieve, so we may find joy through that emotional experience. It is a healing process. It is a way to soften our hearts so that we may remain responsive to the world.

Really, grief comes from a place of love, or loss of it. I can’t imagine grief without first having loved.  

I made a mix in relation to this. Resonating with music can help you to sit with and release those emotions.

Low Mix (Part 1)

As an integral part of Edmonton’s Downtown for many years, Jowen (a.k.a Jeffrey Bowen) has emerged organically out of the music and party scene as a DJ with a reputable sound and taste. With much support and influence from the music scene and close friends, the evolution of this DJ has been swift. His solid flowing, stylish minimal techno house grooves have a ravey, spooky, funky, and deep sound that can take you on a journey. Jowen also promotes art and music events with Window Kids. If you want to hear his unadulterated sound, those parties would be the place to do so.  There are amazing things happening for this DJ, and it seems there are many more big things to come.
